Story
Cowgirl is our sweet southern belle with a heart as big as Texas itself. This 5-year-old Great Pyrenees/Border Collie mix has been through quite the journey. She arrived at SNIPSA with her rodeo of puppies, who have since all found their forever homes. Unbeknownst to us, Cowgirl was in heart failure. At first, we thought it simply might be related to her heartworm disease, and later discovered, after a series of diagnostics, that she was simply born with a crummy heart. We consulted with a cardiologist and developed a medical plan where she is being managed with medication and diuretics, and thanks to her caring foster mom, she’s doing wonderfully! In fact, she is doing so well, she has grown into her girlish figure and lives for zoomies in the backyard. She has a hearty appetite and enjoys spending time with the other resident foster dog. She has developed quite the relationship with her foster mom and follows her everywhere. Cowgirl is great with children, other dogs, and doesn’t even mind the resident cat. She may sneak a French Fry, but we aren’t getting worked up. We are just so happy she is feeling so much better!! While we understand most potential adopters will overlook this sunshiny girl, we are hanging onto hope that someone sees the hope. She may have two years or five years, we don’t have that guarantee. But we will do everything we can to ensure her care, quality of life, and hope that there is an adopter out there that sees her beauty.

Story
Luke is a gentle, loving boy with a calm and quiet nature. He enjoys playing catch and is perfectly content entertaining himself with a ball. He’s very attentive, eager to please, and impressively easy to train—he picked up kennel training in just two days. Luke is affectionate and loves to give hugs, always looking to his people for reassurance and connection. He can be timid around other dogs, likely due to past experiences as a stray; when he was found, he had bite marks and a wound on his leg, all of which have since healed. Despite everything he’s been through, Luke’s gratitude for being rescued shines through in everything he does. He’s eager to learn, eager to love, and would make a wonderful companion. Luke does well with cats and children and is ready to find a safe, patient home where he can truly thrive. 💛

Had a friend with puppy’s asked if I could take one. I did as a favor for him but didn’t work out with work being busy and landlord not wanting pets on the property. She’s a good dog very energetic and smart. She’s plays very will with others dogs. She’s currently with my sister and brother in law and plays with there 3 other pit bulls. They also have a 3 year old boy and they play together all the time. She’s very energetic and will play all day with you. I’m trying to re-home her with a better family who does have the time for a very energetic dog.

Story
Introducing Auburn! Auburn is a beautiful Cattle Dog / Heeler mix who is approximately 3 years old and currently weighs 30 pounds. We rescued this gorgeous gal from the Hondo, TX shelter and although we don’t really know much bout he background, it is clear that people have not always been very kind to her. During her spay surgery, our vet discovered that she had been shot in the leg with a pellet gun. All of that is behind her now and we are excited to help this sweet girl find the loving home she deserves. Auburn is a gentle and curious. She needs someone who will go slow with her so that she can feel comfortable knowing that she will be treated kindly. Once she feels safe, she loves getting attention and affection. She gets along well with the other dogs in her playgroup and is happy and playful! With patience and lots of love we know Auburn will blossom and become a wonderful, loving companion to her new family. She is just waiting for that special person to understand her! She has a heart of gold and shows ZERO aggression of any kind. Sweet, submissive and needs one on one time and love, that we cannot give her here at the rescue. Auburn is located at our rescue in Hondo, Texas. She is spayed, up to date on all shots, microchipped and her adoption fee is $325. She is available for a meet and greet with an approved application. Auburn tested positive for Chagas disease and has started her treatment. This is completely curable after treatment and dogs can go on to live long and happy lives. Our rescue is one of the first to do Chagas testing for all of the dogs in our care and is having measurable success in the treatment protocol. We are also focused on continued education and awareness of Chagas to help even more dogs. Story
Meet Screech — The Little Dog Who Chose His Person Screech’s story starts at the Hondo shelter, where he was moments away from being transported out. But when he spotted Tracy, he made his feelings loud and clear — he screeched for her to take him off the van, and that’s exactly what she did. This sweet boy knew he deserved a chance, and he wasn’t afraid to ask for it. Screech absolutely loves people and thrives on human companionship. He’s food‑motivated, eager to please, and would benefit from a fun training class to help him become the best version of himself. With guidance, affection, and structure, he’ll blossom into an incredible companion. What Screech wants most is a home where he can be close to his humans. He bonds deeply and loves with his whole heart. If you’re looking for a loyal little shadow who chose love from the very beginning, Screech is ready to choose you next.
