Cowgirl is our sweet southern belle with a heart as big as Texas itself. This 5-year-old Great Pyrenees/Border Collie mix has been through quite the journey. She arrived at SNIPSA with her rodeo of puppies, who have since all found their forever homes. Unbeknownst to us, Cowgirl was in heart failure. At first, we thought it simply might be related to her heartworm disease, and later discovered, after a series of diagnostics, that she was simply born with a crummy heart. We consulted with a cardiologist and developed a medical plan where she is being managed with medication and diuretics, and thanks to her caring foster mom, she’s doing wonderfully! In fact, she is doing so well, she has grown into her girlish figure and lives for zoomies in the backyard. She has a hearty appetite and enjoys spending time with the other resident foster dog. She has developed quite the relationship with her foster mom and follows her everywhere. Cowgirl is great with children, other dogs, and doesn’t even mind the resident cat. She may sneak a French Fry, but we aren’t getting worked up. We are just so happy she is feeling so much better!! While we understand most potential adopters will overlook this sunshiny girl, we are hanging onto hope that someone sees the hope. She may have two years or five years, we don’t have that guarantee. But we will do everything we can to ensure her care, quality of life, and hope that there is an adopter out there that sees her beauty.

Her journey began near the border of Mexico in an overcrowded shelter where there were far more dogs than homes. Now she’s ready for her second chance—a loving family to call her own. Bindi is located in Hondo, Texas. Her adoption fee is $325 and a meet and greet can be arranged in Hondo, TX with an approved application. Bindi tested negative for Heartworm. She did test positive for Chagas’ disease with a low titre of 20 and will be retested on 12/6/2025 due to false positives with low titres. If she tests positive again, she will continue treatment. Izzie is a wonderful Cattle Dog Boxer mix who is approximately 4 years old and weighs 50 pounds. She was found living on the streets in a neighborhood in Weslaco, Texas near the border of Mexico. Everyone knew who she was, but no-one claimed her as their own. She was pregnant and had her babies under an abandoned trailer home. Local children heard the puppies crying and they crawled under the house to pull all of them out ! She did a good job of taking care of her babies. She is just such a sweet mama dog. All of that is behind her now! Izzie is such sweet girl with the most wonderful disposition. She is friendly, playful and is always happy to jump in the car and go on an adventure. She loves love love riding in the car, and would honestly make a great traveling companion! She loves everyone she meets and her tail is always wagging. Izzie gets along well with the other dogs in her group here at the rescue and is learning that toys are pretty cool, too. She is crate trained for her meals and for sleeping but if you asked Izzie, curling up next to her people in a warm bed would be a-ok with her as well. We just love this girl and can see her doing well in just about any family environment! Izzies updated video! Izzie tested positive for Chagas disease and has completed her treatment. The great news is she has completed her treatment and will get her follow up blood work done on Dec 4th to confirm she is NEGATIVE! We are so happy for her! This is completely curable after treatment and dogs can go on to live long and happy lives. Introducing Auburn! Auburn is a beautiful Cattle Dog / Heeler mix who is approximately 2 years old and currently weighs 30 pounds. We rescued this gorgeous gal from the Hondo, TX shelter and although we don’t really know much bout he background, it is clear that people have not always been very kind to her. During her spay surgery, our vet discovered that she had been shot in the leg with a pellet gun. All of that is behind her now and we are excited to help this sweet girl find the loving home she deserves. Auburn is a gentle and curious. She needs someone who will go slow with her so that she can feel comfortable knowing that she will be treated kindly. Once she feels safe, she loves getting attention and affection. She gets along well with the other dogs in her playgroup and is happy and playful! With patience and lots of love we know Auburn will blossom and become a wonderful, loving companion to her new family. She is just waiting for that special person to understand her! She has a heart of gold and shows ZERO aggression of any kind. Sweet, submissive and needs one on one time and love, that we cannot give her here at the rescue.
