Story
Meet Chicky! Breed: Miniature Border Terrier DOB: 4/21/2023 Sex: Female Weight: 5 pounds Personality Don't let her tiny size fool you — Chicky is an absolute burst of sunshine in a five-pound package! This little firecracker is playful, energetic, and full of life. She loves to run, explore, and play, bringing joy and laughter to everyone around her. Chicky has a big personality that fills any room she walks into. She is the kind of dog who will make you smile on your hardest days and remind you that the best things truly do come in small packages. Whether she's zooming around the yard or curling up after a big play session, Chicky gives everything she does 100%. She is good with other dogs and great with kids, making her a wonderful addition to an active family ready to match her fun-loving spirit. About the Miniature Border Terrier The Border Terrier is a hardy, affectionate, and highly intelligent breed originally bred in the borderlands of England and Scotland. Though small in stature, they are fearless, curious, and energetic — and Chicky is every bit of that. They are quick learners who bond deeply with their families and thrive with daily activity and mental stimulation. Like most terriers, they have a natural prey drive, so a securely fenced yard is recommended. With a lifespan of 12–15 years, adopting a Border Terrier means committing to over a decade of loyal, loving companionship. Things to Consider When Adopting a Rescue Dog Bringing a rescue dog home is one of the most rewarding things you can do — but it is important to go in with realistic expectations and an open heart. Here is what every adopter should know: ⏱ Time A rescue dog needs time to decompress and adjust to their new environment. Some dogs settle in within days, while others may take weeks or months. Give Chicky the space and time she needs to feel safe and resist the urge to overwhelm her with too many new experiences at once. Patience Rescue dogs may come with unknown histories. They may be unsure, hesitant, or need extra reassurance as they learn to trust. Patience is not just helpful — it is essential. Every small step forward is a victory worth celebrating. The 3-3-3 Rule The 3-3-3 Rule is a widely recognized guideline for rescue dog transitions: First 3 Days — Your dog may be overwhelmed, shut down, or test boundaries. She is just finding her footing. First 3 Weeks — She begins to learn your routine, feel more comfortable, and show her true personality. First 3 Months — She finally feels at home, fully trusts you, and truly settles in. Understanding this timeline helps you support your dog through each stage with grace and compassion. ❤️ Commitment for Life When you adopt a dog, you are making a promise for the rest of their life — not just the easy seasons, but all of them. Dogs do not understand temporary. When Chicky looks at you with those bright eyes and wags her tail, she is trusting you completely and without reservation. Rescue dogs like Chicky have often already experienced loss or uncertainty, and what they need more than anything is the security of knowing they are finally, truly home — forever. If you are ready to make that promise, Chicky is ready to give you her whole heart. Story
If I had to choose one quote to describe Wilma, it would be “though she be but little, she is fierce.” Wilma is a one year old terrier mix with a big personality and a big heart to match. Wilma can be a little guarded when she first meets someone new, but once she decides that you’re her person…you.are.her.person. She will curl up in your lap, shower you with kisses and sleep tucked in next to you. Once she is relaxed in her surroundings, she is full of energy and loves to play with her toys, balls, or anything she can chase or toss around. She also loves hanging out on the balcony keeping a very close eye on the local bird situation (and making sure they know it). When she’s not on patrol or playing she’s probably jumping in the air trying to get picked up because she loves being loved. Leash walking is still a work in progress. Wilma’s more likely to wrap around your legs than ‘heel’ but that’s being she’s just nervous and excited all at once. Wilma is good with other dogs and would do best in a home without cats. She needs someone with a little patience for her quirks, but she is absolutely worth it. If you’re looking for a cuddly, spirited little soul who will choose you just as much as you choose her, Wilma might be your girl.

Story
Milo has that unmistakable “little gentleman with character” look—scruffy, expressive, and just a bit wise beyond his one year. This 1 year old neutered Border Terrier and Griffon Bruxellois Mix carries himself with a thoughtful curiosity, always taking in the world before jumping in. He came in as an owner surrender alongside his companion Kona due to a child’s health concerns—a loving but difficult decision. Through it all, Milo has remained steady, adaptable, and quietly affectionate. He’s not the over-the-top type—he’s more of a loyal sidekick. The kind of dog who settles in beside you, checks in with soft eyes, and builds a real, lasting bond. There’s depth to him… a calm presence mixed with a spark of playful charm when he feels at home. Milo is the kind of dog you don’t just have—you truly connect with. We hold an event every weekend at our facility on SATURDAY and SUNDAY 11-5pm and open to the public. Story
This pretty little lady is Phoebe! Phoebe came to us when a cat rescuer we work with told us how she was contacted by her neighbor regarding a little dog that was dumped on the streets and being chased by coyotes. Thankfully, the neighbor got her to safety, but could not hold onto her longer than overnight. Our cat rescuer friend got Phoebe scanned for a microchip (she didn't have one) and for a little over a week tried to find the owner, but nobody ever came to claim her. We took this sweet girl into our foundation and had her fully vetted. Phoebe is a female, approx 3 year old, approx 12lb, Border/Norfolk Terrier that is the most delightful dog you will ever meet! We would love to see her in a home with another playful and good natured dog or she could go into a home where the owners are not gone long hours during the day and would continue to socialize her. Phoebe most likely never had the love that every dog deserves, so we promised her that we will find her that home...filled with love and happiness. Phoebe is vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed. We only adopt in So Calif as an in person meet/greet, home check, and trial period are required. Please contact us at gina@theforgottendog.org or 310-990-2020

Story
Sunrise is a 2-year-old dog who was at our organization last year. He was adopted, but sadly got returned in early January. Even though he’s been through a lot, Sunrise is still a very sweet and loving dog. He is affectionate, loyal, and enjoys being around people. Sunrise loves to cuddle and stay close to his humans, making him a great companion for someone looking for a calm and caring dog. He has a gentle personality and would do well in a home where he can get lots of attention and love. Sunrise is ready for a second chance with a family who will give him the forever home he deserves.
