ALL animals are in foster homes as we do NOT have a  shelter where you can visit. Some animals are in foster care in New England, and some are located in other states. If the initials following the animals name are a state, then that is the state where the animal is located. If initials are not a state, then those are the initials of the foster home outside of New England and you will not be able to meet the animal ahead of time. Complete our online application You will be contacted by phone or email by the foster parent  or a member of our adoption team and will have the opportunity to find out more about the animal, and ask any questions that you have to ensure the animal is a good fit for your household. If the animal is local, you can meet the animal, but you would not be able to take the dog home until you are approved to adopt. If you feel comfortable that the animal is a good fit for your home, at this point, you would submit a sum of $200 as a partial payment of the adoption fee as we process your application. At this point, we will remove the animal from our adoption sites and hold the animal for you while we check your references. If you live in an apartment, or a condo, we will need to verify permission to own the animal from your landlord or condo board. Please let your vet’s office and references know we will be contacting them. If your  references are positive, we will schedule a home visit by a volunteer. Please try to accommodate the home visit volunteer as most  have busy schedules. Delays in the visit will result in a delay in the adoption. Once you are approved, you will receive an e-mail with your  adoption contract attached. This e-mail will have details about pick up, the balance of the adoption fee that is owed, etc. Please email your signed & witnessed contract and pay your adoption fee in full, and for any animals located out of state, you will be contacted for details about transport to New England. Once you have paid your adoption fee in full and sent back your contract, you can make arrangement to pick up your animal from the foster home or from transport depending on where the animal is located. Story
Adoption Donation   $199      Located: New England Age: 8   DOB:  3/29/2016   Special Needs: Deaf     Dudley is sponsored by Redbarn Premium Pet Products, and will be provided with free food for a year upon adoption!           Meet Dudley DoRight. This handsome boy was adopted from us as a young puppy and was recently returned to rescue after his family experienced some tragedies and were no longer able to keep him. He's now relaxing in a foster home as he waits to be discovered by a second chance family. And Dudley has always had the benefit of lots of love and excellent care! He's a happy, friendly boy who's great with other dogs and humans of all ages and sizes. His best friend in his previous home was a toddler! He has bursts of energy where he runs around and acts silly and plays with his toys, followed by long naps, relaxing in a sunbeam, and enjoying pets and snuggles. Dudley is housetrained and does seem to know some hand commands. Dudley loves to eat and is an incorrigible beggar! Dudley does have some special needs that any potential adopter needs to be aware of – he was born deaf, and he has a seizure disorder. He takes a low-dose of a seizure medication twice a day. Dudley also had a malignant tumor removed from his genitals last year but thank goodness the lesion was completely excised and is not expected to recur.  Don't tell Dudley that he is special needs! He has no idea that he's any different than the doggy friends in his foster home. He's a happy boy, very lovable, and would thrive in a home with another friendly dog or two to keep him company. We think the dogs like Dudley are just as deserving of a loving home as any healthy puppy is, and that's what we promised to find for him.   If you are interested in adopting me, please fill out an application on our website   www.fohari.org and email my foster parent for more information:    mkclark7@comcast.net   Our Adoption Process:   Go to our website and select the animal you are interested in. This dog is   NOT   offered for adoption by Friends of Homeless Animals (FOHA). This dog is solely a courtesy posting for another rescuer. Adoption Donation: $              599   Located:           Ms    (Transportation costs included, please ask for more details )  Age:   1-2 year Weight: 18 lbs                  You don’t get sweeter than Stella! This girl is all love and kisses—if you had all day to give her belly rubs she’d be in heaven!  Poor Stella was found dumped at a truckstop with a brand new litter and several older puppies, it’s believed her owners just left her and her family, and she gave birth on the streets. Fortunately Wags stepped in save the entire family and has found loving homes for all the puppies. Now it’s sweet Mama Stella’s turn! She is a bit timid at first but then she quickly warms up and loves to roll over on her back for a belly rub. Stella is completely house trained  she will just stand by the door when she needs to go out. Stella has not had much experience walking on a leash, so probably would work better in a house with a fenced yard so she can just run out and do her business or else in a home with a patient adopter who will work with her    Stella underwent treatment for a light case of heartworms, and as of early February, this sweet girl has fully recovered and tested heartworm. negative! She is ready for a loving family of her own.       Please email if you are interested in adopting:  mariaeftimiades@yahoo.com   February 23, 2024, 8:58 am

Story
Adoption Donation   $    99            Located:     New England Age: approx   13   years old     Weight: 35  lbs Hospice home needed Meet Frank. We sprung this poor old man from a local shelter after he was found wandering stray, bleeding from his rectum, in a local community and no one was looking for him. We've named him Frank, and he's with our most experienced hospice foster mom because he has a tumor on his backside that is not treatable. And he's so happy to be out of the shelter in spite of his physical condition! He loves being close to his person, and is a snuggly, friendly boy. He's been to the vet and the vet concurs that Frank is a hospice dog that needs comfort and care in his retirement years. Frank deserves better than to die alone in a shelter! We're happy to be able to at least give him some love and comfort and would love to find a compassionate soul with a heart of gold to give him a loving home in his retirement years.  If you are interested in adopting me, please fill out an application on our website  www.fohari.org  and email my foster parent for more information:  illdoit2000@aol.com Please verify the location and readiness of this dog with us.  Because we save lives from various locations through out the United States, some dogs may not be in New England yet, nor ready for immediate adoption.     Our Adoption Process:   Go to our website and select the animal you are interested in. Story
Adoption Donation: $250 Located: CT Age: approx. 14 years old Weight: 15 pounds   Say hello to this frosted-faced beauty, Chloe.   Chloe finds herself in our care due to the passing of her owner. During this confusing time, she has found comfort with the people caring for her and warms up quickly.  This elderly lady enjoys the finer things in life, like a long nap on her favorite blanket and the company of her foster family.  Despite being 14 years old, she has small bursts of spunk and quirkiness to brighten your day.  Being a senior girl, she is fragile.  She would need a calm home with a sweet, gentle dog(s) of similar size.  She has displayed some separation anxiety; therefore, a family member who is home more so than not would work best.  A fenced-in yard would be ideal as she is not good on a leash.  We are working on her potty habits.  Would you like to give this golden girl a soft pillow to live out the rest of her days?  Please inquire with her foster mom at  Dwabrek@gmail.com    If you are interested in adopting me, please fill out an application on our website  www.fohari.org       Our Adoption Process:   Go to our website and select the animal you are interested in.
