Story
Derrick is entirely... well... Derrick! We're guessing this adorable little bat-eared fella is a Boston Terrier/Pittie mix and about a year and a half old. Don't tell him that, though, as he still acts like a puppy! He's sitting just below 40 lbs at the moment and could maybe stand to gain a few more pounds to fill out completely. He's very friendly and will approach newcomers with a sniff and a wag. If you make the right move he'll hop right into a play bow and the zoomies are ON. Toys are his bread and butter and he'll be an absolute ham with anything you give him. Tug toys he doesn't totally understand, but tennis balls and squeaky plushies will keep him occupied for hours. As wiggly tails go along with a puppy personality, so does mouthiness... and Derrick is no exception. He's gentle, through testing we've assured this isn't genuine aggression, but he was still taught to play with hands and shoes at some point in his life. This is easy to curb with redirection to a toy, just keep in mind that he's a nibbly little guy and if you're interesting in adopting, ensure you don't feed into this behavior! Derrick also deals with the typical struggles of a pittie - allergies that contribute to less than great skin. We have him on a poultry-free diet at the moment to see if it'll start to help him out, but as you can see by his gallery, this poor guy has dry skin for days. Luckily for any potential owner, this is a common issue for the breed so any vet should be able to help steer him in the right direction and get him back on track to healthy skin and a beautiful coat.If you're interested in adopting Derrick, bully breed rules will apply. You must own your own home, no cats, no children under 12 in the home, and if there's another dog, they'd have to be female. He'd come neutered, microchipped, with his Rabies and distemper vaccines, a heartworm test, and his heartworm preventitive&flea/tick for the month. If you're interested, fill out the application we have on ForeverPaws.com under the 'Adopt' tab! If you happen to be already approved with us, give us a call and set up an appointment to meet Derrick today.

ALL animals are in foster homes as we do NOT have a  shelter where you can visit. Some animals are in foster care in New England, and some are located in other states. If the initials following the animals name are a state, then that is the state where the animal is located. If initials are not a state, then those are the initials of the foster home outside of New England and you will not be able to meet the animal ahead of time. Complete our online application You will be contacted by phone or email by the foster parent  or a member of our adoption team and will have the opportunity to find out more about the animal, and ask any questions that you have to ensure the animal is a good fit for your household. If the animal is local, you can meet the animal, but you would not be able to take the dog home until you are approved to adopt. If you feel comfortable that the animal is a good fit for your home, at this point, you would submit a sum of $200 as a partial payment of the adoption fee as we process your application. From our end, we will check references and schedule a home visit. If you are not approved to adopt, any payment sent to us would be promptly returned in full. At this point, we will remove the animal from our adoption sites and hold the animal for you while we check your references. If you live in an apartment, or a condo, we will need to verify permission to own the animal from your landlord or condo board. Please let your vet’s office and references know we will be contacting them. If your  references are positive, we will schedule a home visit by a volunteer. Please try to accommodate the home visit volunteer as most  have busy schedules. Delays in the visit will result in a delay in the adoption. Once you are approved, you will receive an e-mail with your  adoption contract attached. This e-mail will have details about pick up, the balance of the adoption fee that is owed, etc. Please email your signed & witnessed contract and pay your adoption fee in full, and for any animals located out of state, you will be contacted for details about transport to New England. Once you have paid your adoption fee in full and sent back your contract, you can make arrangement to pick up your animal from the foster home or from transport depending on where the animal is located. Please bring a harness, collar, ID tag and leash when you are picking up the dog unless otherwise instructed by the foster parent. Our extensive approval process is intended to ensure the best fit between our animals and adopters. Friends of Homeless Animals (FOHA) reserves the right to deny any adoption application with or without disclosure of cause. Story
Adoption Donation   $    99            Located:     New England Age: approx   13   years old     Weight: 35  lbs Hospice home needed Meet Frank. We sprung this poor old man from a local shelter after he was found wandering stray, bleeding from his rectum, in a local community and no one was looking for him. We've named him Frank, and he's with our most experienced hospice foster mom because he has a tumor on his backside that is not treatable. And he's so happy to be out of the shelter in spite of his physical condition! He loves being close to his person, and is a snuggly, friendly boy. He's been to the vet and the vet concurs that Frank is a hospice dog that needs comfort and care in his retirement years. Frank deserves better than to die alone in a shelter! We're happy to be able to at least give him some love and comfort and would love to find a compassionate soul with a heart of gold to give him a loving home in his retirement years.  If you are interested in adopting me, please fill out an application on our website  www.fohari.org  and email my foster parent for more information:  illdoit2000@aol.com Please verify the location and readiness of this dog with us.  Because we save lives from various locations through out the United States, some dogs may not be in New England yet, nor ready for immediate adoption.   Our adoption application can be found here: https://fohari.org/application/  Our Adoption Process:   Go to our website and select the animal you are interested in.
