Story
Lovey Dovey lives up to her name and is looking for a forever home with a cozy lap to snuggle. She has been living happily in a foster home with a resident senior dog and two adult humans:“Dovey brings lots of joy and laughter into our home with her sweet nature and goofy personality. She starts each day giving our dog kisses and greets us with beautiful songs, hugs and more kisses. We work full time and shes fine being left alone to roam free in the house. At the end of the day she welcomes us back with more jubilance and at night becomes the dog equivalent of a weighted blanket cuddling on the couch. She does great on car rides and is potty trained via walks and yard breaks. She gets excited for walks and is very strong on leash with a drive towards squirrels. She gets amped about fetch and destroying stuffies so sometimes we need to help her set limits. Though she’s a lively 11, she does enjoy her senior moments too like an afternoon snooze in a dog bed or sun bathing in the yard. Dovey was restless in the shelter kennel and does not like to be contained in kennels, behind baby gates, or behind closed bedroom doors. If you’re ready for endless love and affection this big lap dog is the girl for you.”Dovey is selective with her dog friends (liking some but not others). This is common as dogs age. Adopters should be mindful that she may not enjoy high traffic dog areas like dog parks or dog beaches. Any resident dogs should meet prior to adoption to see how the two get along. Dovey`s adoption fee has been sponsored by the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation`s Leave No One Behind fund - a fund that draws adopter`s eyes towards animals that have been waiting a little bit longer than average for the right adopters to come along and bring them home. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time

Story
Hello, I'm KORA, and if you're on the lookout for a lovable, active, and super-smart gal who can be your workout partner and couch warmer all in one, then your search ends here! I had a ruff start – rescued from a kill shelter, emaciated and pregnant. But, that's all in the past now, and all I want is a bright future filled with love. As a young adult pup, I'm seeking a family to call my own. I've discovered the joy of running around and playing in my foster home, and I know that's what I want in my forever home. I dream of a life without pain and sadness, and I believe the perfect family is out there for me. Some of my absolute favorite things include tennis balls, rubber balls – basically any ball! I'm super eager to learn and get along well with other dogs. My foster brother Rumpus is bigger than me, but he's gentle and has welcomed me into his family while I search for my own forever family. I'm all about love, and cuddling up with Rumpus or my foster family is the best feeling ever – it makes me feel so special. I would really like another dog to live with, I love my foster brother! Just one small thing – I have a high prey drive, so please, no kitties. They're just too tempting to chase. If you think you could be my forever person or family, head over to www.aarflove.org and complete an application. I'm hoping you are, and I promise you won't be disappointed!

Story
Hank was adopted from the humane society of silicon valley as a 10-week puppy and is now 6 years old. Hank is goofy and playful and enjoys learning new tricks. He enjoys howling along with sirens as they pass by. However, he is reactive around other dogs (he was attacked by off leash dogs on two occasions) and has become increasingly guarding of his food against our cats (no issues with humans) and it's no longer safe to have him in our house. Ideally he would be an "only dog" in a cat- and child-free home.
