Story
WOOF! I'M RILEY! I'm a 3-year-old cute Boxer-Shepherd mix in need of a foster or forever home. I have dark eyes and it looks like I wear shades! I was recently rescued from a California shelter where I was pretty terrified - I sat in the back and looked at people as they walked by. But now I'm coming out of my shell. I have done great with other dogs so far and am quickly adjusting to be a happy boy. I weigh about 50-55 lbs. Can you foster or adopt me? Please email for an application.

Story
Gizmo is a 5-year-old Boxer who is deeply loving, affectionate, and people-oriented. He thrives on companionship and is happiest when close to his humans. Gizmo is gentle, enjoys snuggling, and has a playful, fun-loving personality that truly reflects the Boxer breed. He does experience significant separation anxiety and does best in a home where someone is present most of the time or where his need for companionship can be thoughtfully managed. Gizmo is playful and energetic, but also values calm time and connection with his people. This decision has been made with great care and heartbreak, and our priority is Gizmo’s long-term wellbeing and safety. Serious inquiries only.

Story
Located in Reno, NV. Brady is a smart, handsome boy who has been thriving in an extensive training program. His high intelligence makes him eager to learn and capable of so much with the right guidance. According to his trainer, Brady is an easy, relaxed dog outside of stimulating environments. He crates with no fuss, loves to hang out quietly in the yard, nose around for kibble, or lounge by your side. Around higher-stimulus situations, Brady benefits from tight management and structure to keep up the healthy habits he's worked so hard to build. The great news is that he's been walking and working around other dogs successfully, and he responds beautifully to the e-collar, which will be an important tool in continuing his progress. Brady is looking for a home that appreciates his intelligence and is committed to keeping up his training. In return, you'll gain a loyal, affectionate, and wonderfully capable companion. Brady's adoption includes 12 sessions with a private trainer, 3 boarding nights and unlimited group classes. We are so dedicated to Brady and know that the perfect person is out there looking for him.

Story
HI - I'M SANDY! I'm a 6-1/2-year-old sweet snuggler girl who needs a foster or forever home! I've been waiting for TWO YEARS for someone to choose me. I love to cuddle, hang out and watch TV, and go for walks, hikes, and other adventures. I do well with some dogs (I used to live in a home with a female dog), but prefer people to other dogs so I can get all of the attention. If you're looking for a snuggler, someone to share your bed and hug, I'm it! I truly am a lap dog, and I crave human attention and affection. I'm also super happy, and am just waiting for my person or people to come along. I weigh about 56 lbs. I would love a home for the holidays!

Story
Meet Spot, the pint sized pittie mix! Spot came to the Shelter with his brother Spec. A good Samaritan had been caring for them for a few months after they were left on her property with their mom. Unable to keep them long term – the good sam provided wonderful socialization to get them started off on the right paw and even some initial vaccinations before bringing them to the Shelter to find adoptive homes. At the Shelter, Spec and Spot were fairly nervous so they are in a foster home where it is a bit quieter and less spooky. We are looking for two separate adopters to take them in. The foster reports the following about Spot: “Spot is a super lovebug, curious, and a bit shy (compared to Spec), but loves people, cuddling in bed at night, getting pets, and he loves it when I put his leash on to go outside in my yard.” Spot is still perfecting potty training. He sleeps in the crate at night (with the door open). They have met some friends who have come over to visit. Spot has previously been in a home with other dogs and enjoyed their company. A canine play friend in the home may be a fit after a meet ‘n greet a the Shelter. We do not have any history of Spot with felines or young children. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
