Story
Gizmo is a 5-year-old Boxer who is deeply loving, affectionate, and people-oriented. He thrives on companionship and is happiest when close to his humans. Gizmo is gentle, enjoys snuggling, and has a playful, fun-loving personality that truly reflects the Boxer breed. He does experience significant separation anxiety and does best in a home where someone is present most of the time or where his need for companionship can be thoughtfully managed. Gizmo is playful and energetic, but also values calm time and connection with his people. This decision has been made with great care and heartbreak, and our priority is Gizmo’s long-term wellbeing and safety. Serious inquiries only.

Story
Located in Reno, NV. Brady is a smart, handsome boy who has been thriving in an extensive training program. His high intelligence makes him eager to learn and capable of so much with the right guidance. According to his trainer, Brady is an easy, relaxed dog outside of stimulating environments. He crates with no fuss, loves to hang out quietly in the yard, nose around for kibble, or lounge by your side. Around higher-stimulus situations, Brady benefits from tight management and structure to keep up the healthy habits he's worked so hard to build. The great news is that he's been walking and working around other dogs successfully, and he responds beautifully to the e-collar, which will be an important tool in continuing his progress. Brady is looking for a home that appreciates his intelligence and is committed to keeping up his training. In return, you'll gain a loyal, affectionate, and wonderfully capable companion. Brady's adoption includes 12 sessions with a private trainer, 3 boarding nights and unlimited group classes. We are so dedicated to Brady and know that the perfect person is out there looking for him.

Story
Lenny is a gentle giant. He is 11 yrs old and 85lbs. Lenny comes from a loving home, but, unfortunately his care taker has become ill and is no longer able to care for him. This senior lived happily in an apartment with a small female dog, but, we are unsure if he gets along with males. He is currently loving the yard at his foster home and spends his days inside and outside, snoozing in the sun. He is a mellow fellow. If you have a yard, no walks are needed. Lenny is a serene companion who will bring warmth and comfort to your home.

Story
Meet Vinny, the mixed breed. Vinny arrived to the Shelter as a stray so we do not know much about his life before the Shelter. Vinny is described as a big, goofy boy. He has been eager for attention – pulling on leash, jumping up and just excited to be alive! He has been tolerant of handling but does not really sit still.. more of a busy body. Vinny has been ball and toy oriented. He has met dogs at the Shelter and is eager to play - sometimes a little TOO eager... A home with another energetic, playful dog may be a fit after a meet ‘n greet at the Shelter, recognizing that other dogs may do some `correcting` of Vinny`s overly-rambunctious play style as they get to know one another and some boundaries are set. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw!Now through February 15th, all adoption fees are reduced to $33 - come to the Shelter today to adopt your very own Valentine! Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
