Story
Meet Ruster! Ruster is a 1½-year-old, 75-pound neutered Boxer mix who his foster mom says is truly the whole package. With his handsome looks, muscular build, and happy-go-lucky personality, this boy brings joy and energy wherever he goes. Ruster loves to play with squeaky toys and chew on bones, but he’s also a respectful house guest and hasn’t damaged any of his foster mom’s belongings. When it’s time to burn off energy, he’s a top-notch runner who enjoys zooming around the yard and wrestling with his puppy foster siblings who can match his playful style and enthusiasm. He does well with dog-savvy cats after a slow introduction. If they let him know he’s being a little too forward, Ruster politely backs off like a gentleman. He also lives around horses and completely ignores them, which his foster mom says makes him the bestest boy. Ruster enjoys car rides, walks in the park, and adventures out in the world. He has even visited busy places like breweries where he meets new people and dogs nicely. He can pull a bit on leash when he gets excited, but he’s just eager to see what the day has in store. At home, Ruster has a great balance of fun and chill. He’s a good watchdog with a big bark, but he also loves relaxing evenings watching TV with his family. He sleeps quietly in his crate all night and is fully house trained with no accidents. If you’re looking for a loyal adventure buddy who also enjoys cozy nights at home, Ruster might be your perfect match. Come meet him and get ready for his famous Boxer wiggle! ##2614827##

Story
Hank is an 8-year-old sweetheart with a calm, confident presence and a heart made for snuggling. Described as affectionate, chill, and delightfully lazy, Hank is the kind of dog who’s happiest lounging nearby, soaking up love, and keeping life low-key. He’s friendly, easygoing, and a total cuddle bug—an ideal companion for someone who appreciates a relaxed pace. Behaviorally, Hank is a dream. He’s consistently calm and easy to handle, with relaxed body language and loose tail wags during exams and procedures. He tolerates handling well and enjoys human attention, making him a wonderful candidate for a quiet, loving home. Hank does have ongoing medical needs that require follow-up care outside of the shelter. He is significantly overweight, which contributes to stiffness and overall health strain. Initial bloodwork showed signs consistent with inflammation and a low thyroid value (which may indicate an underlying thyroid condition and needs further testing), as well as low platelets that may be due to sample artifact and require confirmation. His chemistry values were otherwise unremarkable. On physical exam, Hank was noted to have dental disease, heavy shedding, overgrown nails, mild skin changes on his joints, and debris in his ears—findings that suggest chronic care needs best managed in a home with a veterinarian. Indianapolis Animal Care Services does not currently have an on-site veterinarian, and with limited resources, advanced diagnostics and ongoing medical care cannot be provided in-house. Hank would truly benefit from an adopter or rescue partner who can help him get the medical attention he needs and support him on a healthy, comfortable path forward. If you’re looking for a sweet, snuggly senior who gives love freely and asks for little more than comfort, patience, and care, Hank could be your perfect match. Adoptions are free and include support from our adoption team to ensure a smooth transition from the shelter to your home. Adopted pets are vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed/neutered before leaving with you. To view our current available animals, please visit: https://indy.gov/activity/adopt-a-pet.

Story
He is a playful, energetic boy who loves to have fun and is especially great at catching a ball. He enjoys being active and thrives when he has room to run and play. He has gotten out before and chased someone, but he did not bite and has never bitten anyone. He does show aggression toward people he doesn’t know. I’m unsure whether this behavior comes from fear or if he is being protective of his home and family. He grew up with two cats and he loves them. He has been raised with older children and has done well. However, he hasn’t had recent exposure to younger kids since becoming more protective. He would do best with a patient, experienced owner who can provide structure, reassurance, and continued positive training. When his vibrate collar is on, he listens very well and responds quickly to commands. When it’s off, he can be a little rambunctious and full of energy. Overall, he really is a good boy with a playful personality. He just needs someone with patience, consistency, and ❤
