Story
Meet Garry!Garry is a 58lb, 5-year-old, Boxer who came to us as a stray and is still figuring out shelter life at his own pace. He`s an independent guy who tends to prefer doing his own thing and isn`t one to demand attention. While he`s not particularly interested in toys or treats, he does seem to appreciate gentle affection when it`s offered. In the play yard, Garry doesn`t seem to mind being around other dogs and is content to coexist with them. The shelter environment can be a little overwhelming for him, and he can get nervous when it`s time to head back to his kennel.Garry is also cryptorchid, meaning one or both of his testicles have not descended as they should. Because of this, he will most likely require a surgical procedure beyond a routine neuter. Our staff can provide more information about his medical needs and what to expect.Garry is looking for a patient home that will give him the time and space he needs to build confidence and settle in. If you`re searching for a quiet companion who enjoys affection on his own terms, Garry may be the perfect match for you.We do all adoptions with approved applicants by appointment only. If you are interested in adopting, please use the link below to fill out the application. Once we receive that back, then we can schedule you a meeting with the animal you are interested in.https://form.jotform.com/261544309434052

Story
Meet Irwin ??A 58lb, 1-year-old, American Staffordshire Terrier who was found wandering alone in a park. When he first arrived at the shelter, he was terrified and nervous, taking everything in. The kennel environment felt overwhelming for him at first, and he needed a little time to feel safe. But once Irwin got out for some fresh air and one-on-one attention, his true personality began to shine. With patience and kindness, he blossomed into the sweetest boy. Away from the noise, Irwin shows just how lovely he really is — affectionate, eager for reassurance, and happy to be by your side.Irwin is a high-energy pup who loves to play and would thrive with an active family ready for adventures, games, and plenty of exercise. He seems to do well around the other dogs at the shelter, making him a great candidate for a home with a playful canine companion. We do all adoptions with approved applicants by appointment only. If you are interested in adopting, please contact us via FB Messenger or email us at jcasreception@johnsoncounty.in.gov for an application. You can also find one on our website at http://johnsoncountyanimalshelter.com/adopt/. Once an application is submitted and approved, we can set an appointment to meet the pet!

Story
Meet Pigeon! This 56lb, 6-year-old, Lab Retriever mix is looking for a home that understands her unique personality and will help her thrive. She was previously adopted but was returned to the shelter because she did not get along with the resident dog. Because of this, Pigeon is considered dog selective and would need careful introductions to any canine companions, or she may do best as the only dog in the home.According to her previous owner, Pigeon is both house-trained and crate-trained, making her an easy addition to a family ready to welcome her. She also lived with a cat and reportedly paid little attention to them.Pigeon has a medium to high energy level and enjoys staying active, whether that`s through walks, playtime, or other fun adventures with her people. She would do best in a home with adults and older children who can understand and respect her boundaries and give her the space she needs to feel comfortable and secure. If you`re looking for a loyal companion with plenty of personality and energy to share, Pigeon may be the perfect match. With the right home and understanding family, she`s ready to spread her wings and find her forever home.We do all adoptions with approved applicants by appointment only. If you are interested in adopting, please use the link below to fill out the application. Once we receive that back, then we can schedule you a meeting with the animal you are interested in.https://form.jotform.com/261544309434052

Story
Kobe has all the makings of a dog who is ready to leave uncertainty behind and start the next chapter of her life with a family of her own. Staff have found her to be incredibly sweet, people-focused, and eager to connect despite the big changes she has experienced recently. While she was initially unsure in the shelter environment, her gentle nature shines through, and it`s easy to see that she wants nothing more than kindness, reassurance, and a place where she can finally relax. There is something especially touching about dogs like Kobe. Beneath her cautious moments is a loving companion who has already won people over with her friendly personality and soft heart. She is the kind of dog who makes you want to root for her, and the kind who will likely repay patience and love with unwavering loyalty. Kobe is ready for someone to show her that the best days of her life are still ahead, and whoever welcomes her home will gain a devoted friend who is eager to belong. Story
Stanley has already shown himself to be a calm, friendly guy who approaches people with soft, loose tail wags and an easygoing attitude. He seems to take things in stride and gives off the impression of a dog who would be perfectly happy joining someone for the simple pleasures in life, like neighborhood walks, lounging nearby, and soaking up attention from his favorite people. There is a quiet sweetness about him that feels genuine and uncomplicated. While Stanley is still settling into the shelter environment, he has made a lovely first impression with his relaxed demeanor and approachable personality. Sometimes the dogs who are not demanding attention every second are the ones who end up becoming the steadiest companions. Stanley seems like the kind of dog who could fit beautifully into a home looking for a loyal friend without a lot of fuss, just a good dog ready for a fresh start and someone to share life with. All adoptions include support from our adoption team to ensure a smooth transition from the shelter to your home. Story
Winston is the kind of dog who seems to approach life with full enthusiasm and very little hesitation. When staff first met him, he came running over as soon as he heard someone whistling, ready to play and interact right away. Since arriving at the shelter, he has continued showing friendly, social behavior, greeting people with loose wags, happily coming over when called, and enjoying time outside getting fresh air and attention. He also has a silly, overexcited side that pops out when he is really feeling himself, which honestly just makes him feel even more like an oversized puppy trying to figure out how to channel all that energy. Winston looks like a dog who will thrive with structure, activity, and people who appreciate a playful personality. He enjoys interaction and connection but also has enough independence to wander around and do his own thing between check-ins. With continued guidance and outlets for his energy, Winston has all the makings of a really fun companion for someone who wants a dog that brings a little humor, personality, and enthusiasm into everyday life. All adoptions include support from our adoption team to ensure a smooth transition from the shelter to your home. Adopted pets are vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed/neutered before leaving the shelter`s care. Story
🖤 Draco is ready for his forever 🖤 Draco is looking for an urgent foster or adopter! 🙏🏼 Draco isn’t only the loyal dog everybody wants, but he is determined to be your best friend for life no matter what. Dogs never seem to fail humans but yet so many are failed by owners. Draco is ready to have a furever home where he won’t be failed! Draco is a great dog who loves to snuggle on the couch with his person and give you plenty of kisses. He enjoys running outside and playing with his abundance of toys. He also enjoys a big backyard to run in when he gets the zoomies. Unfortunately many would look past him because of his coloring, but I think it makes him stand out even more. I have truly enjoyed taking care of this precious soul, he is such a joyful dog and will make someone very happy! He is hard of hearing so when you want to get his attention I either squeak a toy or I wave to him to come. This treat motivated boy will make the perfect dog for someone who is willing to give him the chance he needs. Quick facts ⬇️ •5 year old male pitbull •Dog friendly; cat selective •Fully vaccinated, microchipped, and fixed •Hearing impaired •Energetic and loves jolly balls •Loves to snuggle 📝 Foster application: https://form.jotform.com/secondchancespetsanctuarytx/Second-Chances-Foster-Application 📝 Adoption application: https://form.jotform.com/secondchancespetsanctuarytx/Second-Chances-Adoption-Application 📍 Currently being fostered in Fort Wayne, IN Foster or adopter in the Midwest needed!
