Meet Basil!Sweet baby Basil is just a pup at only eleven months old. She's a sensitive gal which is understandable because coming to the shelter from a home can be a big, confusing transition and it can be overwhelming. Basil is a boxer/American bulldog mix and weighs about 60lbs.While it takes a minute or two to win her over, she immediately becomes a big goofy blockhead with all of the zoomies! She's genuinely just a big baby that needs all of the coddling, all of the reassurance, and all of the snuggles. She's a bouncy bean that is a big hammy ham for attention. She loves her walkies and loves rope/tug toys but can and will turn the rope toy into a dangerous weapon when she starts swinging it around like a medieval mace. She'll take you at the knees/ankles if you're not careful. Anyone remember the Skip-It and how it would smash your ankle bones? Yeah, like that.Basil is fantastic with other dogs and lights up like a Christmas tree when she sees them, especially big goofy male dogs. (She seems to have a type.) She's all play bows and zoomies trying to get them to chase her. She's afraid of cats because big dogs afraid of cats seems to be trending here lately. We are looking for an adult-only home (or teenagers and adults). We are obsessed with Pippa. She is a 9 month old, female, Boxer mixed breed. *Please note: Pippa is currently in a foster home and can be met by appointment only. Please email us at HeartofRIAdoption@gmail.com or call (401) 467-3670 to schedule an appointment to meet her.* Her soft, expressive face that tells a story of both hardship and resilience. She was found on the side of the road with her sibling, painfully thin and searching for food wherever she could. During intake at the southern rescue, she was so hungry that she tried to eat her dewormer. The crushing memory of that moment has stayed with everyone who has met her. Even with all she has been through, her sweetness remains. She is slowly learning that meals come regularly now, that hands can be kind, and that people can be safe. Each day she relaxes a little more, leans in a little closer, and begins to trust the world in front of her. Staff and volunteers have quickly fallen for her quiet bravery. She accepts love with growing confidence and is discovering the joy of soft beds, full bowls, and gentle voices. Pippa will blossom beautifully in a patient home where she can continue to learn what it means to be secure and adored. She has already come so far and has so much love ahead of her. I loved having the foster puppies around they were fun to play with. I now like to play with the big dogs I am learning to be a dog. I get to get up on the couch and the bed with my foster mom. I like the bed she keeps telling me it’s okay I have never been on the bed before… I don’t like crates but I like my pen I get to stay when my foster mom is gone. I have learned the doggie door and it’s so much fun going in and out of it. I am learning being outside can be fun especially when all the other dogs go outside. I am working on sits and stays but I am still a little nervous with the trainer. Give me time and I will give you love… I would loved to be called your girl…. I just need some patience and some love and we will best friends forever!!!!

Meet Penelope!This zoomy snow bunny is a five year old American bully mix weighing in at 55lbs. She's a social butterfly, a happy girl, and absolutely would have been voted prom queen in high school.It is a necessity for Penelope to say hello to everyone she comes across. She has no issues approaching strangers and making fast friends via tail wags and happy snorts. She's a super smart girl that knows all of her cues like a pro and loves to show them off. She's the hammiest of hams and thrives on attention...especially belly rubs, obviously. Any sort of attention turns her into a wiggle worm that just can't stay still. She's a strong girl with a lot of enthusiasm and excitability so she can be a bit pull-y on a leash but she definitely isn't terrible. She's smart, eager to please, and a quick learner so consistency will be your best in correcting that. Her favorite thing to do, other than zoom around in the grass (or the snow), is to sploot with her legs out like a Thanksgiving turkey. Penelope does well with other dogs and doesn't even really seem to mind if they lack boundaries or personal space. She's just happy to say hello! Penelope does not like cats, does not appreciate that they have sharp and pointy bits, and does not appreciate the noises they make. So, no cats. We would prefer kids 12+ just because we don't have a history of her with small children. Since she is a "restricted breed", you must own your own home or live in a home owned by a family member.
