Story
Meet Wicket (as in golf term --- not Wicked.....)!  She spent weeks hiding off the freeway, taking refuge in the back of a driving range before being secured by us.  No doubt, once loved and left behind for reasons we will never know. This lady is STUNNING and demonstrates the positive qualities of the breed when it comes to behavior. She is wiggily, goofy, silly and loves to give kisses. Everyone ALWAYS stops at her little cot in the sun at our events and comments on how well behaved she is. She knows sit, down and shake. She lets kids come up and say hello or "wave" to get anyones attention or treat.  She loves to have her face "gooshed" (IYKYK). She is super sweet and all around just a lovely girl. Occassionally she has a timid moment but retreats for reassurance from her handler.  She is incredibly food motivated and amazing on leash with a handler that will LEAD her.  While on her own she likely encountered some predators and unfriendly off leash dogs so is insecure about dogs in general leading to defensive behavior if not led properly.  For now she needs to be an only dog because she's "young and dumb" but responds well to correction and direction.  Little dogs or cats are a definite NO for her.  She is incredibly smart, well mannerd and ready to make someone one an amazing companion. She is a favorite for all that meet her.  It's time for her to step out on her own with a loving family that will teach her forever is full of safety, love and unconditional acceptance.  Looking for the breed but not the size (we've asked several breed experts and all confirm she is likely pure Corso)?  Maybe that's you?   ##2240922##

ATTENTION:  All of our dogs are in private foster homes.  We do NOT have a kennel with multiple dogs.  If you find a dog you want to meet in person, please go to www.secondchancedogrescue.org and complete an application.    We will make every attempt to process all applications within 3 business days of receipt. // // Duke is Courtesy Post Only and is not a Second Chance Dog Rescue dog. SCDR is not responsible for any ownership, behavior, health, and representations made by the owner with respect this dog. Please contact their owner,  Dawn at dawn.regner@yahoo.com for further information.   ************** Duke is a beautiful Cane Corso (approx. 2-3 years old) who is fully potty trained, crate trained, and neutered.  He is up to date on all vaccinations and has been given a clean bill of health by the vet.  He is friendly and affectionate; in many ways, he is a gentle giant.  Duke loves to play in the yard (he does get the zoomies from time to time, which can be quite an exciting experience for this 100-lb dog!) but also likes some routine and structure.  After a good romp around the backyard, chasing toys and jumping around, he’s happy to settle in for a nice nap! He gets along very well with other dogs, including our 8-year-old Maltipoo.  Duke also goes to doggie daycare twice a week and loves hanging out with all his friends there.  He is also great with kids. The ideal home would be one with some room to run and play (and maybe even another doggie friend in home to play with!), and with someone who is home often and can devote a little time and attention (preferably an owner who has had experience with dogs of his size and/or breed).  He’s not thrilled with being alone for long stretches, and when that’s necessary he tends to prefer the crate.  Because he has undergone some trauma in his past, he has a few issues with anxiety.  But he’s happy to give (and receive!) a lot of love and will make a great family dog in the right home. For further information on Duke, please contact, his owner Dawn at dawn.regner@yahoo.com. All Second Chance Dog Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, are up to date on vaccines and have microchips prior to adoption.   Adoption fees vary depending on age of dog. Fees help Second Chance Dog Rescue cover spay/neuter costs,   vaccinations, medical treatments, food and supplies. Please go to  www.secondchancedogrescue.org  and complete an application today!    All dogs live in private foster homes until they are adopted.  February 22, 2025, 3:22 pm

Story
Rene was wandering around the block for several weeks, until he was given the opportunity to enter the home of one of the rescuers. He has been a very protective, loving dog, and from the first moment he was always grateful. He has gained weight and is ready for his new home. He loves to get close to the fence to be petted by neighbors. He is good with cats, although because of his size we do not leave him unsupervised when he is with them, and he lives with most females. He doesn't like to have another male around, he is the alpha and everyone knows it, but with people, he is the biggest baby of them all. He loves treats, lots of love and affection, going for walks and playing with balls and rubber toys. The $350.00 adoption fee covers the following: Transport to San Diego, CA. Spay/Neuter. All vaccines up to date. Deworming (puppies 2 sets). Flea medication up to date. Tick control up to date. Microchip. Microchip registration to new owner paid for. Collar. Temporary leash. The adoption fee does not include transportation to North of San Diego
