Meet Roman! This stunning guy recently arrived and has already started making friends. He's the definition of a social butterfly and loves everyone he meets! His former owner reports he's also a food connoisseur and will do just about anything for a good snack! He also enjoys basking in the sun and taking long, luxurious naps. Roman has lived with kids before and adored having playmates all the time. He also has lived with two other large dogs and enjoyed having four-legged roommates! Nina is a beautiful Cane Corso who has been part of our family for nearly seven years. We rescued her from a difficult situation and have loved and cared for her ever since. She is now entering her senior years, and after much prayer and consideration, we've made the difficult decision to find a home that can better match her needs and provide the time and companionship she deserves. Nina is loyal, gentle, affectionate, and well-mannered. She does well with children, other pets, and family members, and she enjoys being around people. She has a calm personality, loves attention, and has been a faithful companion throughout the years. We're looking for a safe, stable, and loving home where she can spend her golden years surrounded by kindness and care. Our hope is to find someone who understands large breeds, has the time to spend with her, and will treat her as a valued member of the family. This is not an easy decision, but our priority is finding the very best home for Nina.

This gorgeous gal is spayed and fully healthy! She is up to date on vaccines. She is also microchipped! 💧: Housebreaking - Yes, she is potty-trained! 🏠 : Crate Training - She's done well in her crate and with free roam when home alone! 🚶: Leash walking - She gets frustrated on leash when she sees other dogs and can't say hi, and will then bark and pull. She would benefit from continuing to work on this! 🐶: Dog-friendly - She lives with a resident dog in her foster home and is very playful and cuddly with him 😺: Cat-friendly - She has not interacted with cats while in our care 🧒 Kid-friendly - Ruth has been friendly when meeting kids at our Adoption Center, but may do best with older kiddos due to her size and playful, bouncy energy Ruth loves sooo hard. She wants to be with her people and dog bestie at all times, and just wants to watch over the people she loves. One of our favorite things about her is how she babysits her humans while they shower, sitting on the bath mat until you are safely out. Smart? No question. But that’s not why she deserves a home. She’s been let down before. Now she deserves someone who won’t. Chicago Animal Care and Control is located at 2741 S. Western Ave., Chicago, IL, and is open from 12pm to 7pm daily. Walk-in visitors are welcome and helped on a first-come, first-served basis. If you are planning to adopt the day you visit, please plan to arrive before 5:30pm. Visitors arriving after 5:30pm will still be able to view animals in Pavilions A-B-C until 7pm. All dogs will be spayed/neutered and vaccinated before adoption. All household members should be present to meet dogs (especially those under 18 and any decision-makers). We recommend and can arrange dog-to-dog meet and greets for your current dog(s) to meet a potential dog sibling at the shelter. You will need to show proof of up-to-date rabies vaccination for your dog(s). Slow, cautious, and appropriate introductions are recommended after you allow time for decompression for the shelter dog. Story

Iceland has been here before. She was reclaimed by her owner, only to find herself back at the shelter again. This time it doesn’t seem like anyone is coming for her. And that’s hard to understand when you meet her. Iceland is beautiful yes. But it’s her personality that really won us over. She’s only 2 years old, has good manners, and knows how to make the most of her time outside. She’s perfectly happy entertaining herself but always makes time to come check in with her people too. She has the cutest little underbite and while the video only caught one dramatic run-and-flop moment, we counted five total. Iceland is goofy, sweet, easy to love, and a very good girl. All the reasons dogs end up here are hard. We just hope Iceland’s next home is the one that loves her forever and keeps her safe.🤍 Chicago Animal Care and Control is located at 2741 S.
