Story
Meet Scotchie-Sweet Boy!! His name is really Butterscotch, but his friends call him Scotchie. We think we will call Scotchie, he seems to make a friend of everyone he meets. This sweet little guy just wandered into the neighborhood a few weeks ago, like soooo many before him. Stray cats can come and go in any location, some are truly feral and others like Scotchie are quite social. Perhaps he has had some previous human interaction, so it seems. Scotchie began making regular appearances around a few houses in the neighborhood and even ended up on our deck with all of our foster dogs!! Well, they scared him up a tree(they are actually pretty harmless)and he eventually made it safely down and on his way. Although we are a dog foster, there is a family next door that are the cat whisperers, not a job they intended on!! So far they have 3 of these local strays, and a family member has 2 more. Scotchie apparently knew where to go. As evasive as he was initially one day he had a change of heart. Tammy(the cat whisper) came home from work and had the garage door open. Scotchie made his move. He RAN in the garage and started rubbing on Tammy's legs and being very affectionate. His plan worked! Tammy took him down to the cat room downstairs for isolation and to begin his vetting journey. He was checked out, received his vaccinations and was just neutered. He is in great shape despite being on his own for who knows how long? Scotchie is over a year old, perhaps 18 months, but still a young cat. He is looking for a loving him, someone to spoil and cuddle. The family is asking for an adoption fee of $100, which will cover a little of his vetting expenses. Please email Kristine at joysparrows@gmail.com.

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. If you're working for home or just playing it safe by practicing social distancing, now is a perfect time to bring a new furry family member into the fold. Email us any questions about any cats we have and we will be happy to provide any additional information you may need. If you are approved for adoption, we are now doing curbside adoptions in order to minimize contact. About 5 and a half years old as of May 2025 Spokane is still a bit slow to trust. He was adopted as a young cat, and sadly his person passed away. When he first came back to rescue, he was terrified. It took weeks of daily treats and soft words for him to feel safe enough to come down from his high spot. Now his true personality is coming out, and it's a beautiful thing! He's cuddly and sweet, and he adores other kitties despite being an only cat. His first meeting with one of the resident cats was full of head butts and purrs! Apply for this beautiful boy now at: www.safehousepets.orgVisit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.All of our cats have been spayed or neutered, vaccinated, de-wormed, microchipped, and tested for FIV/FeLV. Our adoption fee structure is as follows:   $75 - Kittens/Young (Up to 1 year) $50 - Adult (1 Year +) $25 - Senior (7 Years +) $0 - FIV + There is an additional $25 fee for cats considered to be an "Exotic" (Siamese, Persian, etc...) If you are a senior (65 years or older) you can adopt any of our senior cats (7 years or older) for only $10! Please mention this special when applying. We also have a kitten special - adopt 2 available kittens (1 year & under) for $125 While we try to keep our animal listings up-to-date online, sometimes the age range may be labelled incorrectly. Please don't hesitate to contact us for the most up-to-date information on a particular cat.  Our cats are shown by appointment - we are a foster based rescue and so we don't have a location with set hours. If you are interested in adopting or would like to meet our cats, please fill out our adoption application online at www.safehousepets.org/info/adoption and a volunteer will contact you promptly.  July 5, 2025, 12:40 pm

If you are approved for adoption, we are now doing curbside adoptions in order to minimize contact. Anchovy is about a year old as of May 2025. His situation is a bit complicated, and he's spent most of his life in rescue. He was trapped as an older kitten with the intent of socializing for adoption. Unfortunately, his foster was unable to spend the time required to work with him, so he either needed to go back outside or be moved to a different foster. Cold weather was already here, so the decision was made to move him to a different foster. He's still quite fearful, but is very motivated by food. He leans in for pets, purrs, and is generally relaxed when he's eating. He may never become a lap cat. He may have to go live in a barn. At this point, we aren't sure, but he's spent enough time here. If you are either an incredible person who wants to give this boy a home despite his fear, or if you have a very safe ship, barn, etc, please apply here! safehousepets.orgVisit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.All of our cats have been spayed or neutered, vaccinated, de-wormed, microchipped, and tested for FIV/FeLV. If you are approved for adoption, we are now doing curbside adoptions in order to minimize contact. Racine is about 5 months old as of 9/7/25.  Born outside, she has done great with socialization with her fosters.  She is a very timid girl and will take a special home that can be very patient with her while she adjusts and gets brave.  Her fears can lead to a hiss at first, but she is not aggressive.  Once she gets over her fears, she loves to be held and petted.  Racine will need a segregated room while she adjusts.  With time and patience and a family that will let Racine do things on her own, she will be a great addition.  Side her with patience and time while she adjusts to new surroundings.  Racine has 3 siblings and played well with them.  With proper, slow introduction she will adjust to other cats.  She's spayed and fully vaccinated and ready for her FOREVER home.   Approved applications will be contacted within 48 hoursVisit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.All of our cats have been spayed or neutered, vaccinated, de-wormed, microchipped, and tested for FIV/FeLV. If you are approved for adoption, we are now doing curbside adoptions in order to minimize contact. Kindle is about 5 1/2 years old as of November, 2025.   His intake picture shows the need for his rescue! He's been with us in rescue since March of 2025 and we have treated and helped him physically recover from the critical condition in which he was found. Kindle and a feline buddy (Sammy) showed up on a farm. Their story to that point is not known. Sammy had been shaved in what appeared to be professional cut and Kindle's hair appeared to have been cut yet not shaved. Sammy was not as physically ill as Kindle was, yet before we could get to help them, Sammy was hit by a car and humane euthanasia was required. We were so sad about Sammy, yet we were so happy to still be able to help Kindle. He's now neutered, vaccinated and healthy yet the trauma from whatever occurred to him mentally remains. He is a very scared boy, non-aggressive and he needs a special home that is quiet where love and patience can be given for as long as it may take to let him trust again. This will take time and we are not certain to what level he will grow to; he may never be a lap cat and that's ok! From his foster: My sweet Kindle I’m not sure what his story is but I know that it broke his heart. He is not a true feral but resorted back to being scared of humans during his life. He loves to take churu treats from me and I have finally after almost a year earned his trust to see his demeanor change from scared to calm during pets. He's absolutely stunning! He's not happy in rescue and we know he will move forward and thrive in a home. He sure deserves one; he's lucky to have survived.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.All of our cats have been spayed or neutered, vaccinated, de-wormed, microchipped, and tested for FIV/FeLV.
