Story
Ray is an amazing 3-year-old dog who’s ready to bring excitement and adventure into your life! She’s happiest when she’s on the move — chasing a frisbee, going for a run, or joining her favorite people on an outdoor adventure. Ray would thrive in an active home with adults or older kids (12+) who can match her enthusiasm and keep her both mentally and physically engaged.Ray comes beautifully trained, and her new family will receive her full training packet to help continue her progress and keep building on her great foundation. She has a high prey drive, so she’ll need a home that understands her energy and instincts. Her compatibility with cats will be tested. If you’re looking for a smart, athletic, and loyal companion to join you on every adventure, Ray is your girl!To apply for Ray click here https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=meridenhumanesociety&method=online_form_html&formid=27

Story
Maryann showed up at a good Samaritan's house. The good Samaritan brought them to our facility, and we took them in. Well, how could we resist. They were so frightened and scared but are doing much better now. They are up to date on shots, spayed, microchipped and ready to be adopted. Who could resist those faces. They are adorable and they need a good loving home full of happiness, playfulness and lots of love. We don't know if they are siblings or not but that they came in together. The foster that has them now says they are coming out of their shell and are very playful and full of life. They love chasing each other and playing tag. They are very curious and so affectionate. They will be great for any family to have one of them for a family member. She is in TN but the cost of transport to your area is included in her fee. We use the most animal friendly transport on the road, Rescue Riders Pet Transport.

Story
Freckles had a rough start and has already overcome more in her short life than most dogs will. This has not kept her down as she still greets each day with eyes full of hope and a wagging tail. Found abandoned and injured, this 6-month-old Catahoula Leopard mixed breed dog has gotten back on her feet and is looking for a patient and loving home that believes in second chances like she does.Freckles is 35 lbs. with a beautiful, speckled coat and is expected to remain a medium size dog of somewhere up to 60 pounds once fully grown. As she is a young dog, all training is in progress, but she is a resilient and smart girl willing to learn. She is working on being house trained, getting those good leash manners down and her crate training. Freckles is waiting to become your best companion, and a gentle handler will help her build confidence to help her shine. Freckles has medium playful energy and cannot wait to run around a big backyard or head out on an adventure. She gets along great with other dogs and children. It is unknown if she has met or likes cats. Freckles deserves a home that has a soft bed to snuggle in and a family that can show her the rest of her life can be safe and full of love. With time she will blossom into a confident best friend to spend your days with. If interested, apply today.* When considering adoption, keep in mind that dogs thrive on structure and routine. They adjust much better when their owners are committed to providing consistency and stability. The adoption fee for Freckles is $500. That includes the cost of spaying/neutering, up to date vaccinations, foster care, rescue and transportation fees. To get the ball rolling, head over to our Adoption Application and submit your application today. A Dog Star representative will contact you within 24 hours. To speed up the process, contact your vet and give them permission to speak with us.If you do not get a response within 24 hours, check your spam folder.February 4, 2026, 5:34 am

Story
Name: Hayden Age: 2 years Breed: Catahoula Leopard Dog Size: 35 lbs Special Needs: Heartworm positive. Will need treatment. Adoption Application: https://forms.gle/nuKXoMu6gjS5DhFm8 Contact: transport@hssm.org Meet Hayden, a 2-year-old Catahoula Leopard Dog with striking looks and a lively, loyal spirit. Found as a stray in Long Beach Mississippi he was brought to the Humane Society of South Mississippi. He’s smart, alert, and loves having a job to do — whether that’s exploring the outdoors, playing with purpose, or learning something new. He did seem a little reserved and shy at first, but with a little time and meeting new people he has become more comfortable with his surroundings and has opened up a bit. Hayden thrives on activity and engagement, making him a great match for an adopter who enjoys adventure and understands working-breed energy. He bonds closely with his people and brings both enthusiasm and devotion to the relationship. He does fine around other dogs. He is a little unsure at first but once he has a few minutes to warm up he starts to run around and play with the other dog. If you’re looking for a bright, athletic companion with personality and drive, Hayden is ready to put his heart to work for his forever family. Hayden is up to date on vaccines and prevention. He will be neutered upon adoption and even though he has tested positive for heartworms we have no doubt that with proper treatment he can live out the rest of his long life happy and healthy. Hayden's $300 adoption fee includes spay/neuter, up to date vaccines, microchip AND transport fee to a location near you. We currently have transportation to CT, MD, NJ, NY, PA, VA, GA, and TN.
