Story
I have a beautiful male Cavapoo born 11/26/24. Cavalier KC poodle with papers. 12 lbs. His name is Rory, he is very sweet, well mannered and easy to train. He uses pee pads reliably in my apartment and has tons of toys, three tiny beds, an indoor fence and gate, and a new coat. I will include all of these. I live in an apartment across from Lake Bde Maka Ska where we walk. He loves the birds! He loves people, other dogs, strangers. I have not had him with cats or little kids. Rory is up to date with his vaccines. Still too young to be neutered. The reason I have to give him up is because of his separation anxiety. It is very difficult for him to be alone, and because I live in an apt. I cannot get out to run errands or even take a shower without him crying loudly. I have to give in and comfort him because he disturbs the neighbors. A home where he could be properly trained and helped with his separation anxiety would be so good for him. Everyone here loves him! Breaks my ❤️

Story
Are you an introvert at your core? Are you a homebody? Does the thought of leaving the house and socializing with people make you anxious? Would you rather hang out with Dogs than People?!? Then you should meet Wookie, he feels the same way about life!  Wookie is a 15 pound Mini Poodle estimated to be born in May 2017. Thanks to DNA testing from Embark, we’ve got a fresh take on how old he really is.  He does resemble his namesake a bit, do you see any Chewbacca in him? Wookie first came into rescue in August of 2023 after being released from his life of breeding and has been in his current foster home since June of 2024.   He has made lots of progress, but is going to need a special home that understands him and is willing to allow him to be who is he is.  He is a very shy boy and needs someone that is going to help boost his confidence, and flourishes best in a home with other dogs and very patient people.  It takes him some time to warm up to new people, but once he trusts you, he will share a couch, chair or bed with you and even allow pets.  His safe place is his kennel and he will sleep through the night in it without making a peep and is also in the kennel during the day while his foster family is at work. He also loves to hang out on the couch, chair or a dog bed and snuggle with his toys.  He enjoys being outside and does well in a fenced in yard, pen or on a leash.  He hasn't had an accident in his kennel or in the house while supervised, but does occasionally mark his territory.  He rides well in the car in his kennel.  He loves to play with his toys independently and is quite animated and goofy about it, but will stop if realizes he's being watched.  He doesn't play with the three other small dogs in his foster home, but he relies on them to show him the routine and to feel comfortable in new situations.  As a result, his new home must have another small and confident dog for him to bond with and to support him. Large does can be a bit intimidating for him especially if they are rambunctious.  He also enjoys the company of cats and does just fine with them.  He has a bit of a prey drive though for bunnies in the yard, so small animals in the home might be a challenge. In addition, he would do best in a home without a lot of chaos that would make him anxious such as loud noises and small children.  He is afraid of loud noises such as fireworks and thunderstorms and does best given sedatives in those situations.  He has graduated from a shy dog training program and his adoptive family will be taught how to best help him live a happy life.  He knows his name, comes when called, goes into his kennel on command, will wait, walks nicely on a leash and knows how to sit.  He needs to have the time and space to do things on his terms and as a result, he doesn't like to be approached, picked up or handled.  This of course makes grooming challenging and most successful with sedatives and regular grooming as he has a high maintenance coat prone to becoming matted. He is currently on a life long medication called Fluoxetine to help him with his anxiety and as a result he has made lots of progress with training and learning how to be a more confident and happy dog. Do you have a quiet home, another dog or two, more patience than the average person and lots of love to give?   If so, Wookie may just be your man!   Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Prepaid microchip, dental, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine, Distemper combo vaccine, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX,  Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Adoption fee: $295.00  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.May 27, 2025, 9:25 pm

Story
Age: Almost 1.5 years old Weight: 48# Dog friendly: Yes Cat friendly: Unknown Kid friendly: Yes, Older/considerate kids only Potty trained: Yes Crate trained: Yes Tobias is an energetic 1.5-year-old standard poodle who loves to play with toys and especially his foster sister. He has a silly/goofy personality but is fairly quiet. He’s starting to vocalize a bit more as he’s learning from his foster sister, but overall is very quiet. Tobias will require a lot of patience in the beginning as it takes him some time to warm up to new people, but he so desperately wants all the affection and to just be part of the fun! He enjoys pets, belly rubs, and scratches when he does allow us to do those things. He’s definitely cautiously optimistic when it comes to affection! He would do best in a home with at least one other dog. We aren’t sure how well he would do with other children. He doesn’t seem to mind our 13-year-old but often growls at her when she enters a room for no apparent reason. We haven’t had him around young children, and because of that we don’t feel confident saying he’d be okay with them. He’s fully potty trained and has had no accidents. He does sometimes pee when frightened (like when we have to put his harness on to go somewhere or to give him a bath). Tobias sleeps well in a kennel overnight, and during the day we keep his kennel door open so he can go in and out as he pleases. His kennel has become his safe spot. He will go in there if a noise or sudden movement scares him. He eats and drinks very well. He’s definitely food and treat motivated! He also does very well in the car. We use a vehicle-safe tether that’s connected to the anchor in the back seat and the other end to the back of his harness. He would also do fine in a vehicle’s kennel. He needs some work on leash. He tends to walk in circles and doesn’t seem to like the leash much, which is possibly due to inexperience. We have a fenced backyard where he runs around, plays with his foster sister, and potties. He wants to be around the people and dogs in his home, even if he’s not quite ready to snuggle or get lots of pets. With the right family that will give him the time and patience he requires, we know that Tobias will be an excellent pet. We know the perfect family is out there and has no idea yet what an amazing addition he will make! Adoption Fee: $695

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.   This sweet little miniature poodle is a local dog in need. His name is "Houston." He is approximately 1.5 years old, approximately 12 lbs. He came from a breeder and the owner does not have enough time for him. He was used to living outside with the breeder, the owner works long hours and is struggling to get him housetrained. He is not fully housetrained yet. He wears belly bands inside and goes outside frequently. He is making slow progress. Houston is used to living with dogs and because of his puppy mill type background, we think he needs to live in a home with other dogs as they make him more comfortable. Another smallish dog would probably be best, but he hangs well with the big ones too.   Houston is a very meek, somewhat shy (but wants to be loved) little muppet.   Houston likes to be near you, but kind of prefers to watch you from a few feet away while you are doing things and then if you sit he will come lay near you, and he will jump on the bed, but usually lays at end of bed, or sometimes on the floor.   He wants to be near his person, but has some skittishness in him too. Once you are holding him or he is approaching you for pets, he loves to be pet and cuddled. We can supply belly bands to the foster home (and send some with to an adopter). Whoever fosters or adopts, would just want to make sure he's on a routine, in and out frequently, praise when goes outside, and use of a belly band when inside.   This little guy is a total squish-ball sweetheart, but he will need a dedicated type of person, who is savvy to the under-socialized dog and stays on top of his housetraining schedule (processes).   Please let us know if you are interested in fostering or adopting Houston.
