Please read the bio in full for answers to your questions. In the event you have a question that is not covered in the bio, please email info@seniordoghaven.org. If interested in adopting, please complete an adoption application which can be found at https://seniordoghaven.org/adoption-process/. Adoptions must be about an hour of Wilmington, DE in order for our volunteers to be able to conduct an in person home visit. CALLING ALL EXPERIENCED CHIHUAHUA OWNERS: Meet Lula. She’s absolutely adorable…and that’s about where her good qualities end UNTIL she learns to trust you. At 7 years old, she’s 13lbs of pure dog hating, cat hating, and kid hating shenanigans. She really hates it when someone tries to take her bed, food, toys, or comes near her people. So, again, if you have other pets or children and are thinking of applying, please don’t. Lula isn’t going to change. If you like to host parties at your house, please don’t apply. Lula isn’t fit for company. Lula is active and can jump a 4ft fence. She chases anything that comes in her yard and almost catches them (squirrels, rabbits, etc); however, her foster mom thinks this comes in handy in the summer because Lula can catch flies. She barks if she hears a noise or to alarm her humans. Lula loves going on walks which is a risky endeavor. People want to pet her because she’s so cute but that’s a big NO NO. I’m sure if you hung a sign around her neck that said “Rabid dog”, it would help deter people. Lula does not like strangers approaching her. So we’d love an adopter with a high fence that’s secure so Lula can roam a yard and chase until her little heart is content. Now for the good stuff: once Lula learns to trust you, she is loyal, lovable, wants to be petted and held (but only by her people). Lula loves car rides and food. She loves her toys and sleeping in her dog bed with a blanket that she prefers to put on herself. Lula is healthy. No regular medications or mobility issues. While she is a work in progress, a lot of her behavior is born out of fear and that comes out in aggression. That being said, if you can let Lula come into your home, settle at her own pace, and buy her affection with food and treats, when she finally comes to you, you’ll have a devoted companion for life. She’s our little Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Once she comes to you, be ready to be loved. She is super intelligent, housebroken (but hates the rain, of course), wants to be an only child, is very protective, and just wants to know she’s safe. Her ideal home would have a yard just for her, no other animals, someone to dote on her and give her all their attention. A house where she can nap with her humans or sleep with them at night. Here’s how it’s going to go when you first meet her: You can’t touch her or pick her up or try to cuddle her. Lula will snap at you; however, it doesn’t take her long to warm up, especially if you’re plying her with food. So just to reiterate… if you want Lula and have other pets or kids, unless you hate them, please don’t apply. If you don’t mind NOT petting your new dog for a little bit until she decides to come to you, we’d love to hear from you. If you don’t mind that you can never take her around a bunch of people or have frequent visitors in your home, then please apply today. If you don’t mind being owned by your dog and want unconditional love (once she warms up), then please visit www.seniordoghaven.org today to apply.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Gino came to us in February last year it has been almost a year that he hasn't found his forever home! He is such a sweet boy and will make someone a great companion! He is about 4 years old and weighs 14 lbs. He does have some separation anxiety so would do best in home where someone is home a lot or with another dog companion. He is fine with cats. He does bark when left completely alone so he would not be good for an apartment setting. He did complete his heartworm treatment last month and is doing great. If you would like to meet this great guy please fill out an application and we will be in touch! abuddyforlife.org Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 22, 2024, 8:11 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Griffin is doing great in his foster home! He is a sweet little guy who wants to be by your side. He is about 6 years old and 9 lbs. He knows how to sit, stay, beg, spin and walk on his back legs. He's quiet and gets along with other animals but also likes to have his own space. He sleeps quietly in his crate and is housebroken. He likes to lay near you or on your lap. He also likes to play with toys. He likes to be outside and loves to go for walks. He travels in the car well too. He does have a few quirks so we would love for him to go to a home with little dog experience. Please visit our website and fill out an application if you are interested in this great little guy! abuddyforlife.orgVisit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 22, 2024, 8:11 pm

Story
Introducing ACE! Ace is the place : ) Ace is a one-year-old, neutered, male who weighs approx 30 lbs. Up-to-date on vaccines and had his annual vet check at Stoneback Veterinary Associates in late March, housebroken, good with cats, grew up with kids and can live with a dog. Ace is a very shy and timid guy and will take some time to warm up but, once he does, he’ll be your sidekick.  He is going to need some training and socialization as puppies always do. Ace is quite the love -  if you are sitting, he is on your lap, wanting to cuddle. As far as we know he hasn’t been exposed to a lot of dogs, and will need time to transition into a home with other pets. His foster mom has two dogs and he seems skittish when they approach or if they try to initiate play with him. She feels over time he will gradually feel more comfortable. He will definitely need positive training and confidence building to make him a well rounded pup. It’s always important to socialize your puppy to many different things, so they can learn to adapt in a normal life. Ace is a wonderful soul who is looking for that right home who can help him grow to be the bravest boy ever. Interested in adding a little Ace to your family? Please fill out an application at www.companimals.org. Adoption $300April 23, 2024, 10:14 am
