Story
If you tend to be attracted to toxic men..
If the movie "Obsession" really resonated with you (either character)..
If you've ever thought "Man, I'd love a security system I could carry around"..
If you were a huge fan of Taco Bell commercials in the late 90s...
Chuloo may be the dog for you!
Chuloo is an 8 lb. 12-year-old Chihuahua who joined us from Philly's animal control shelter because his first family experienced housing troubles. We brought Chuloo up to date on veterinary care including extracting 31 painful teeth. We were hoping not living with chronic dental pain would help Chuloo not be so spicy, and it definitely tampered it a bit. But we've accepted that Chuloo is his true authentic self and we must embrace that. Who are we to try to change him at this point? And listen.. If we thought Chuloo was a danger to society, we wouldn't adopt him out. He only has a few teeth left. A MENACE to society? Yeah, maybe. But Chuloo is also the sweetest little muffin who, once he grants you his trust, will press his forehead against yours and flop on your chest for lovins, chase his own tail and toss toys in the air like a puppy, and dance around in pure delight the second he sees you. Aren't the best things in life the ones you have to work for anyway?
-Realistic expectations based on first hand experience from Chuloo's current foster home-
Week 1: Probably won't even be able to touch him. Expect a few toe chomps.
Week 2: Glimpses of trust will show, you may get some tail wags, he won't crash out so quickly but there's still high chomp probability.
Week 3: Missing physical touch, he will begin sitting next to or on top of you. Will solicit pets. DO NOT let your guard down just yet!
Week 4: Love begins to bloom (from both parties), snuggles and occasional kisses appear. Grumbles and chomp rate will decrease.
Week 5: You'll find yourself, a grown ass adult, babytalking "the most handsome little man" and covering him with kisses (and he'll let you).
Week 6+: Matching sweaters. Your new Ride or Die for Life. The occasional chomp doesn't even phase you.
Because Chuloo has no chill, he likely won't ever be a dog who likes your friends (or even your partner). He'll probably always be that elusive little house demon who would prefer to be put away when guests come over and will need to be sedated for vet visits. Though he's lived with both over the years, we think he'd be happiest in a home without other pets or children. At his age, Chuloo would do best in a low-key, quiet home where his world can be kept small. Hell.. if he could live with just YOU on a deserted island for the rest of his life, he'd be happier than a pig in mud. Chuloo was adopted briefly but returned because neighbors complained about barking. The stress of apartment living and hearing strangers near his home caused him too much stress which also made him nippy again. Barking has not been an issue in his current foster home unless he's trying to play or telling someone to get off his lawn.
Chuloo has been fully vetted since coming to the rescue. Besides having luxating patella which is very common for small breed dogs and occasionally causes him to limp on longer walks, he has no ongoing health considerations. Chuloo is very food motivated and easy to medicate with a slice of cheese. Chuloo is mostly housebroken and is otherwise pee pad trained (small dogs, small bladders), but he will need to adjust to his new schedule.
Chuloo is available for adoption through City of Elderly Love. He is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. Interested in adopting him? Visit cityofelderlylove.org to complete an online adoption questionnaire!
