Story
Eric is a nine-year-old chihuahua we originally rescued from the newsworthy Branson-Taney County area when an irresponsible breeder dumped more than 60 chihuahuas in small groups all over the area in June 2021. Rescues from all over the region pitched in to help, and so did we.
Little Eric, who was five at the time, was adopted by a loving couple who adored him. When the wife passed away a few months after the adoption, Eric's "dad" found great comfort in this sweet little dog.
For the last year or two, Eric has lived at an assisted-living center, charming both residents and staff members alike. He gets along with every dog he has met and ignores any silly behavior from other dogs.
Last week, a family member contacted us to relinquish Eric; his "dad" has cancer and is also being moved to a memory care unit when he cannot have pets.
Eric is a rare chihuahua; he is not cranky in any way, AND he is potty-trained! When taken out regularly, this gentleman takes only a few minutes to do his business.
Eric is a devoted companion who just wants to be near his person. In the three days he has been in foster, he is already attached to his foster mom, following her around the house and outside, napping next to her on the couch, and snuggling with her at bedtime.
Eric walks beautifully on a leash, but he does enjoy exploring outside in a yard as well. It's unknown how he would do with children, but his demeanor overall is relaxed and sometimes shy for the first few minutes.
Eric does not like to be left alone for long periods of time, so his adopter should be retired or work from home. Although he rarely barks, he will bark sometimes when he is left alone.
His most frequent noises sound like a guinea pig, and he does snore a bit.
Eric is very overweight from being spoiled at the facility by his adoring fans, including his owner, so his new adopter will need to help him eat less and move more to be healthier. He currently weighs 16.5 pounds and should be more in the 8-10-pound range.

Eric is up-to-date on vaccines, neutered, and microchipped. He has a dental scheduled for Tuesday, June 24.
