Story
Meet Raul, an independent and spirited pup ready to find his forever home! Raul is currently living in a foster home and is looking for a family that understands his unique needs and can provide him with the love and attention he deserves. Raul does well with other dogs while out on walks, but his ideal home would not have resident dogs. He has a strong chase instinct with cats, so a cat-free household would be best for him. In his current foster home, Raul shares his space with two female cats, but they do not interact closely due to his tendency to lunge and bark. When it comes to being alone, Raul is quite content in a gated area or free-roaming for short periods. He's house-trained and hasn't shown any issues in that regard. While Raul is a loving companion, he can be a bit particular about being handled or picked up. Sometimes he enjoys being pet, but other times he may growl and snap. It's important to approach him with patience and respect for his boundaries. Raul has made progress in his behavior and no longer exhibits food guarding with humans. However, he still displays this behavior with the resident cats, so it's essential to feed him separately. If you're looking for an independent and spirited companion who thrives in a cat-free environment, Raul could be the perfect match for you. With the right understanding and care, Raul is sure to blossom into a loyal and loving member of your family. Don't miss out on the chance to give Raul the forever home he's been waiting for!

Story
Looking for a Golden Bachelor? Say Hello to Sir Casper! Sir Casper is a little gentleman whose calm, loving presence melts your heart. He came to APA from South Texas when his previous shelter ran out of space, and now he’s thriving in a foster home while patiently waiting for his forever family. Though mostly blind in both eyes, Sir Casper navigates his world confidently, using his other senses — and maybe a little shadow-seeing magic — to explore new places with ease. His tail is almost always wagging, whether he’s resting on his bed, going for a walk, or enjoying a car ride to somewhere new. Everyone who meets him can’t help but comment on how sweet and easygoing he is. Sir Casper loves his independence, happily roaming safely in his outdoor space or enjoying a peaceful afternoon resting. He only barks when he wants to go outside, and he’s perfectly content in a calm, quiet home. He’s affectionate without being demanding, and his gentle nature makes him the perfect companion for someone seeking a senior dog who is loving, calm, and incredibly easygoing. If you believe senior dogs deserve dignity, comfort, and love, Sir Casper is ready to share his golden years with a forever family who will cherish him.

Story
Cricket and her mom Ladybug (also adoptable!) were dumped in the street in the middle of the night and discovered by one of our team members, who quickly scooped them up. They both likely suffered abuse and neglect in their previous home, but are starting to realize it's only the good life ahead! Cricket is 11 months old and 6 pounds of 100% love. While she is still extremely timid and a little skittish, she can be silly and loves to play with doggie friends both big and small. When she wants to play, she is a jumping bean of energy! Once she feels safe with you, she will seek out attention and cuddles, especially if she has a doggie friend to show her that the only hands that will pet her from now on are gentle, kind ones. Cricket's ideal home is with someone(s) who works from home and understands that it could take months to bond and build trust and confidence. Her ideal person is also patient and can take her out often to reinforce potty training. (She successfully use potty pads in the house.) Please note that children under 12 will be too much stress for her. She will thrive in a calm, quiet and patient. Cricket is crate trained (it's her safe place!) and leash trained, and she has been spayed and vaccinated. All she needs now is a forever family who will give her all the love she deserves and help her forget her traumatic past! Could it be you?

Ladybug and her daughter Cricket (also adoptable!) were dumped in the street in the middle of the night and discovered by one of our team members, who quickly scooped them up. They both likely suffered abuse and neglect in their previous home, but are starting to realize it's only the good life ahead! Ladybug is 2 years old and 8 pounds of 100% love. While she is still timid and a little skittish, she yearns for affection. Once she feels safe with you, she will seek out all the cuddles and kisses! Ladybug's ideal home is with someone(s) who works from home and understands that it could take months to bond and build trust and confidence. Her ideal person is also patient and can take her out often to reinforce potty training. (She successfully use potty pads in the house.) Ladybug would be perfectly fine living with other dogs and cats, though children under 12 will be too much stress for her. She will thrive in a calm, quiet, patience and gentle home. She is crate trained (it's her safe place!) and leash trained, and she has been spayed, vaccinated, and successfully treated for heartworms.
