Story
A sweetheart who LOVES his human and was owner surrender to an LA pound due to many dogs. Quiet and sweet and loving, the fun thing is how he dances when his friends walk in the door. Sleeps in the human bed and is housetrained and happy. He is fearful of some things, and he pants when afraid and is one of our older dogs.

Story
One of 5 dogs rescued from a hoarding situation where more went to other rescues. Lyle and his siblings lived in squalor in Visalia CA until the owner died and they were pulled out by animal control officers in Hazmat suits! It was gross! The dogs had dreadfully long nails, live fleas feasting on the pups and skin conditions to show it. None was fixed and all were frightened but all love affection and were actually socialized to some extent. Lyle was initially fearful of humans, NEVER aggressive and now loves everyone. He was an annoying barker and still does have a voice when new people enter the room but overall he is a great and cute loving guy who you cant help but be drawn to. Housetraining needs to be monitored.but he is much better now He is a sweet guy, volunteer favorite. Bosses the other dogs and thinks he is pretty important. but initially shy with new humans who he thinks might bite him. Once they dont bare their teeth and pick him up he is their new best buddy. Due to his fearfulness he needs a fenced yard as he has been known to bolt. Loves being held and loves sleeping with (on) his human. He has bad breathe and always has but decent teeth so it must be his tummy. He is a very cool dog and we love him very much. His fur is thick and wavy.

Story
Meet slinky fka Eli! Eli is a sweet, laid-back about 7-8 year-old little dachshund mix looking for his forever home through absolutely no fault of his own. He came to us from an over crowded shelter where he spent a couple months being nursed back to health by a loving foster home. He has blossomed into a happy, loving companion and continues to carry that same personality in his RDR foster home. Slinky fka Eli is housebroken, walks beautifully on leash, knows his basic commands, and has wonderful house manners. He loves being with his people, getting attention and belly rubs, and curling up on a dog bed. He has done wonderfully with other dogs and cats. He is also crate trained. Eli is heartworm positive, but Real Dog Rescue will cover the cost of his treatment. This little guy is truly a wonderful companion—affectionate, easygoing, smart, and eager to please. He deserves a forever family who will love him as much as his foster family does. Apply at Realdogrescue.org/adopt

Story
The volume of discarded seniors entering NJ’s shelter system is sad and alarming. Pippy is one of our newest arrival. She was curled up in a sad scared cranky ball in the back of her kennel at our local Animal Control facility surrounded by large barking dogs. She’s severely overweight at 18lbs when she should be more like 12, and she gets out of breath easily with even short walks. She was blind in one eye which was painful and uncomfortable due to severe untreated, chronic dry eye as well as glaucoma, so we made the decision with our vet that removal would be the best option to help her feel better. She’s healing nicely and warming up, she’s a chihuahua so can be snarky with strangers and doesn’t like to be bothered when she’s comfy in her bed, but getting a bit happier each day. And she only has bottom teeth remaining after her dental so isn’t particularly scary. Getting gummed to death by an obese one-eyed pirate 🏴‍☠️ Chihuahua isn’t much of a threat. She’s fine with other mellow little dogs and definitely knows her own chihuahua kind, a funny but lovable little personality if you understand chi culture and customs. She’s at least 10 years old and overall in pretty good health now that her untreated eye and dental situation have been taken care of and she’s already lost 2lbs on her diet! Email njwoof@cs.com to meet Pippy in Northern NJ. Pippy is just the latest in a long line of local seniors we have taken in suffering from chronic painful medical issues that need immediate medical attention to give them a better quality of life. Please consider a donation so we can continue to step up week after week for these little ones in need in our local shelters. Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. To streamline adoptions, all communication before, during, and after the adoption process is done through email only: we have limited volunteers able to return phone calls. Submit an application from our website www.secondchance.petfinder.com to speed up the adoption process and email any questions to us at njwoof@cs.com. Please check your email regularly for next steps. All our dogs reside in foster care in Northern NJ until adoption and we do not have a central shelter location. We are a small all-volunteer organization focused on rescuing local dogs from area shelters, as well as accepting some surrenders and puppy mill rescues.
