PORCHINI AND FRIENDS WILL ATTEND A MEET AND GREET ADOPTION EVENT ON SUNDAY MARCH 22 AT BAD WEATHER BREWING AT 414 W 7TH IN SAINT PAUL 12:30 -2:30. COME FOR CUDDLES AND MAYBE GO HOME WITH A FRIEND. WE WILL ALSO COLLECT PET FOOD AND DONATIONS TO SUPPORT PET OWNING FAMILIES IMPACTED BY ICE.
Porchini is a pretty blond/tan pup. She is soft and fuzzy. The vet aged her at 8 weeks on March 18. The puppies were surrendered to PUP because the owner lived in a very remote area and she felt she would not be able to place the pups in good homes. We don’t have a photo of either mommy or daddy but we did DNA testing and it was quite a surprise.
There are a total of 24 breeds with only two over 10%: Cavalier King Charles Spaniel at 19% and Yorkshier Terrier at 10% with Australian Cattle Dog at 9% and German Shepherd at 8%. Filling out the list are Golden Retriever, Labrador, Cocker Spaniel, German Wierhaired Pointer, Border Collie, Rough Collie, Miniature American Shepherd, Australian Shepherd, Chihuahua, Siberian Husky, Chow, Malamute, Samoyed, Poodle, Maltese, Pekingese, Pomeranian, Boxer, Pit Bull Terrier and Saint Bernard. Actually, it boggles the mind and challenges the imagination, as in, HOW? We call it hybrid vigor; you can call it pretty much any breed you want. There is no possibility of inbreeding here!! We think puppy will be mid-size when an adult based on current weight and age.
These pups are very well socialized to people and other pooches. In their foster home there is an adult dog, 2 cats, 3 adult humans and, off and on, a teenaged puppy. According to the foster “Porcini is definitely the leader of this puppy pack. She is the first to try everything. Lately she has started following around the humans in her foster home and likes to spend as much time with them as with her sisters. She will do great as an only pup getting all the attention or with other animals.”
The early months are when puppy learns the social skills needed to be a skilled dog in dealing with other dogs and a good citizen in the human world. Adopters should be committed to getting puppy into lots of new and different human social situations, hearing vacuums, trucks, and rattling garbage cans, meeting people who are clapping, laughing, with hats, tools, bikes and skate boards. AND puppy needs many opportunities to meet and greet dogs of all shapes, sizes and dispositions. Just sharing a home with another dog is not as much doggie socializing as puppy needs. If good canine social skills are not learned and maintained during these early months, it will be very difficult to ever master them. Puppy play dates, trips to the pet store, puppy socialization classes and later, obedience classes are particularly important. If all this doggie time and involvement seems like a good idea, you are up for a puppy! As always, a tired dog is a good dog.
Puppy has been vet checked, is vaccinated, and de-wormed. She will need two additional puppy vaccinations plus rabies at the adopter’s expense. We do place puppies outside the metro area if a firm plan for the alter surgery is in place; we do not ship. Her required alter surgery is covered by the adoption fee if it is done by 6 months at the PUP clinic. We require that she be altered by 6 months.
