Story
Located in Tennessee but can be transported to you through Rescue Riders. This boy was dumped with siblings and is a sweetheart! He is very friendly and gets along with other dogs. He has some housetraining and also knows how to use a dog door. He has done okay on a leash and in a crate. He will need daily exercise but is not overly energetic. He is ready to get a forever home.

Please read the bio in full for answers to common questions. If you have a question not covered here, please email info@seniordoghaven.org. If interested in adopting, please complete an adoption application at https://seniordoghaven.org/adoption-process/. Because all of our dogs live in foster homes, meet-and-greets are scheduled only after a completed application is received. Adoptions must be within a reasonable distance of Wilmington, DE so our volunteers can conduct an in-person home visit. Meet Jake! 🐾 This sweet Collie boy is almost 11 years young and looking for a family who will love him for exactly who he is — a devoted, ball-obsessed companion who just wants to be near his people. Jake came to us as an owner surrender. He was well cared for, but his person wasn't able to give him the interaction and playtime he craves, so he arrived a little needy and anxious. He settled in within a couple of days, and once he did, his true personality came out: a medium-energy guy who barks minimally, loves other dogs, and is an absolute joy to play fetch with. Throw him a ball and he'll bring it right back, over and over — he's also a big fan of his stuffie toys and would love a canine playmate to wrestle with in his new home. Jake is good with dogs and kids of any age, enjoys car rides, walks, and snacks, and doesn't mind being picked up or handled. He's mostly good on a leash and can still do stairs just fine, though his ideal family will be prepared to help him with those as he continues to age. He sleeps in a dog bed but likes to have free access between the living room and bedroom overnight — he'll paw and whine at a closed door, so he does best with open access to his people at night. He's had some anxiety, especially at night and reportedly during storms. He does have trazodone available as needed, which is budget-friendly at about $5 for 30 pills through Chewy. He's not crate trained and would need a securely fenced yard — no yard is a dealbreaker for this guy. Jake's ideal home: a fenced yard in a quiet neighborhood, a doggy sibling to play with, owners who are home often, and a family committed to helping him through his senior years, including lifting him if stairs ever become too much. He's still working on being fully housebroken (was pad-trained, now transitioning outside) and has had some vetting done already, including a dental and mass removals from his neck and knees. This gentle senior boy has so much love and playfulness left to give — he just needs someone to give it to. 🎾💛

Story
Kaia just turned one in March 2026. She's very active and needs a home with someone who can give her all of the attention. She is house trained and stays in our yard without us outside. We are a very busy family that cannot pay enough attention to her. She's super loving and loves cuddles. She's a big love bug who thinks she is a lap dog.

Story
MATILDA WAS LEFT AT A CHURCH… DON’T LET THAT BE THE END OF HER STORY 💔 🚨 Someone left her at a church door… and walked away. No name. No explanation. No one coming back. Now Matilda sits in a loud, scary shelter trying to make sense of it all… wondering why she was left behind. She’s about 6 years old and only 25 pounds—a tiny, gentle soul who never asked for any of this. And here’s the truth about her: ✨ Once she’s out of the kennel, she is soft, affectionate, and loving ✨ She just wants to be close to someone ✨ Quiet, docile, and incredibly sweet ✨ Dog that will bond deeply once she feels safe She’s nervous in the kennel… but that’s not who she is. That’s fear. That’s heartbreak. 💔 She is not broken—she is just scared and needs someone to show her she’s safe again. Dogs like Matilda don’t do well in shelters… and they don’t get much time. 🙏 PLEASE — Matilda needs a calm, loving home ASAP. Give her the second chance she never got. Because being abandoned shouldn’t be how her story ends. PLEASE TEXT KAREN 4136298152

🚨 SENIOR JENKINS WILL BE KILLED TOMORROW MORNING—9/11 🚨 At 10 years old, this gentle senior should be resting in a warm bed—not facing death at Lexington County Animal Services. Jenkins was found wandering as a stray, seemingly abandoned when he needed his family most. He appears to have arthritis, struggles to get around, and has a large mass between his front legs that needs veterinary attention. Yet despite his discomfort and everything he has endured, he remains a sweet, gentle boy who is also dog friendly. Jenkins doesn’t deserve to spend his final moments frightened and alone. He needs a compassionate hero willing to give him the medical care, comfort, and soft place to land that every loyal senior deserves. His life depends on someone stepping forward before tomorrow morning. Please help save Senior Jenkins. PLEASE HELP TEXT KAREN 4136298152
