Story
Meet Maverick! Maverick is just a baby who is still learning what being a dog is all about and is catching on very quickly. Whether it’s cats or dogs, if it’s got fur and it moves, Maverick automatically wants to play with it. This can be frustrating for senior dogs, while younger dogs will think that it’s great. Maverick likes to play with toys but gets easily distracted by the brand new world that is waiting for him to explore. Because Maverick is still learning manners, he would fit best in a home with older children. While he does well with not jumping on his foster mom, it is possible that he could accidentally knock a smaller child down. Overall, Maverick is pretty gentle and likes to snuggle with his foster mom from time to time. His crate training is coming along nicely and he can currently go for about five hours before needing to be let out. If Maverick sounds like your dog, complete an application at https://www.saveastray.org/forms/form?formid=3635 Thank you for your interest in a Save a Stray pet. The first step is to complete an adoption application. https://www.saveastray.org/forms/form?formid=3635 Once the application is approved, a FaceTime will be set up for a virtual meet and greet. Since we are located in Mobile, AL, this will give you the opportunity to see the pet interact with other dogs, people, and see a bit of their personality. Transports leave every week alternating between the NE and the Great Lakes. We use the most animal-friendly transport on the road. Rescue Riders Pet Transport.

Story
If I fit, I will sit as you can see in my picture. Shelly came into the shelter again as a stray, so we don`t have a lot of info on her. She came in very quiet and subdued but has blossomed into a fun loving happy young girl. She loves to be out and about on leash and play in the yard. Shelly is an extremely friendly girl and hasn`t met a person she didn`t want to play with. We don`t know if she is housebroken but her inside kennel is always perfectly clean so we would guess she is a clean lady. Due to her size, we would recommend an active home with no small children. We worry that she will knock a small child over by accident. Get your application in on this lady and come meet her. She will be a great addition to any home.

Story
Zoe is a 9 year old  brown-eyed beauty who weighs about 90 pounds. She is a very sweet and well-behaved girl looking for a soft place to land. Her family's living situation has changed and she needs a new forever home. Zoe is looking to live in a quiet suburban area as she finds city life way too overwhelming and stressful.   Zoe walks nicely on a leash and would love a home where she can spend lots of time outside basking in the sun. She is house trained but may need some time to adjust to a new schedule and home. Zoe is good with kids! She also has been good with other dogs but has never been around cats.   If you would like to meet Zoe please email us at almosthome4dogs@yahoo.com!   (Local adoptions preferred — Philadelphia and tri-state area [South Jersey and northern Delaware] only.) PLEASE READ BEFORE CONTACTING US! We are NOT a shelter: All of our dogs live in private homes with foster families. Come and meet the Almost Home dogs and their fosters at our Meet & Greet events, where you can learn more about our wonderful dogs from the people who live with them, find out which dogs are on their way and when they’ll arrive, and fill out an application to adopt or foster. We cannot adopt to homes where electric-shock fencing systems or training collars are used. For more information on the dangers of electric-shock collars, please visit banshockcollars.ca/studies.php . We do not have an online adoption application; to request an application, e-mail us at AlmostHome4Dogs@yahoo.com. Can you open your heart and home for a few weeks to homeless shelter dog? Remember, by fostering a dog, you save TWO lives — that of your foster dog, and that of the dog who takes his place in the shelter! Story
Meet Absolute Joy! This energetic, 1-year-old German Shepherd mix is the definition of pure happiness. With her sweet personality and big bark, she’s a softy at heart who just wants to be your best friend. Absolute Joy is always thrilled to see you, and though she's working on her manners (she might jump for joy when she greets you!), it’s just because she can’t contain her excitement! Absolute Joy is an enthusiastic chewer who loves her chew toys, especially when they come with tasty treats. Cod sticks, yak chews, and bully sticks are some of her favorites! She’s also crazy about her snuffle mat – meal times are even more exciting when she gets to enjoy her food while working for it. Absolute Joy has a playful side, and although she’s not into fetch, she’s always ready to run around and have a blast outside. She’s a natural adventurer and would be the perfect hiking companion. Nature is her happy place, and she’s always up for exploring new trails with you. And if you’ve got a box around, watch out – Absolute Joy hasn’t met one she can’t tear apart! For her, peanut butter-filled Kongs are the ultimate treat, making her heart full of joy. If you're looking for a spirited, loving, and fun puppy to bring into your home, Absolute Joy is ready to fill your life with happiness and adventure! Apply to adopt her on our website at https://www.familiarhearts.org/adoption-process

Story
We found Acorn while walking our other dog by Temple area and she happily ran up trying to make friends. She ended up following us home and after looking for her owner for a month we found nothing. She is a very young and energetic dog who loves long walks and being around people as much as possible and while she is sweet she is very high energy and appreciates a living in a single dog household.
