Adoptions must be within a reasonable distance of Wilmington, DE so our volunteers can conduct an in-person home visit. Meet Jake! 🐾 This sweet Collie boy is almost 11 years young and looking for a family who will love him for exactly who he is — a devoted, ball-obsessed companion who just wants to be near his people. Jake came to us as an owner surrender. He was well cared for, but his person wasn't able to give him the interaction and playtime he craves, so he arrived a little needy and anxious. He settled in within a couple of days, and once he did, his true personality came out: a medium-energy guy who barks minimally, loves other dogs, and is an absolute joy to play fetch with. Throw him a ball and he'll bring it right back, over and over — he's also a big fan of his stuffie toys and would love a canine playmate to wrestle with in his new home. Jake is good with dogs and kids of any age, enjoys car rides, walks, and snacks, and doesn't mind being picked up or handled. He's mostly good on a leash and can still do stairs just fine, though his ideal family will be prepared to help him with those as he continues to age. He sleeps in a dog bed but likes to have free access between the living room and bedroom overnight — he'll paw and whine at a closed door, so he does best with open access to his people at night. He's had some anxiety, especially at night and reportedly during storms. He does have trazodone available as needed, which is budget-friendly at about $5 for 30 pills through Chewy. He's not crate trained and would need a securely fenced yard — no yard is a dealbreaker for this guy. Jake's ideal home: a fenced yard in a quiet neighborhood, a doggy sibling to play with, owners who are home often, and a family committed to helping him through his senior years, including lifting him if stairs ever become too much. He's still working on being fully housebroken (was pad-trained, now transitioning outside) and has had some vetting done already, including a dental and mass removals from his neck and knees. This gentle senior boy has so much love and playfulness left to give — he just needs someone to give it to. 🎾💛

This sweetheart is Synamon! Sadly she was abandoned by her previous owner, so she is understandably nervous and confused. She has a kind soul and it will just take patience for her to feel happy and at home again. She has lived with another dog before and may enjoy doing so again. We are not sure how she feels about cats but she is willing to try with proper introduction. She is also open to possibly living with children 8 and oldere as long as they aren`t too boisterous, as she scares easily in this vulnerable time. Synamon did not deserve to be deserted as so many pets sadly find themselves. Dante is a 4-year-old terrier mix that started out as a scruffy stray in the streets of Louisiana, until he was rescued by our shelter partners and transported here to us. While he has adjusted here at the shelter, he can still be fearful when meeting new people. To help ease his initial worries, slow introductions to people or dogs are important for Dante. When you first meet him, you’ll hear that signature terrier bark, but once he’s comfortable with you, you’ll see the cuddly, playful, happy little guy he really is! Since arriving here, Dante has become a staff-favorite for his smart, quirky personality and playful attitude! Dante loves a good game of tug of war, rolling in the grass, tossing up his stuffed animals, playtime with a canine companion, and 1-on-1 attention from our team. He keeps his kennel very tidy, and appears house trained already! He loves his walk times, and will sit very nicely if asked. Of course, he will be expecting a treat for his hard work. He would thrive in a home with older kids or adults who can understand when he needs to take things slow. Dante has been introduced to cats, to which he was uninterested, so he may do well with a kitty friend at home too!
