Story
Jasper is a vocal little guy with a love for fun. He loves to play and spend time out in the yard, and he already knows how to play fetch! He's not much of a cuddler and he can be uncomfortable with some types of handling, but if you allow him the time to warm up on his own he'll be your best friend in no time. (NO APARTMENT)OTHER PETS: Jasper was relaxed around other dogs while at TJO, but he can be a bit humpy while playing. While this behavior could change after his neuter, it could also be due to over-arousal and discomfort, so he would likely get along best with a tolerant but playful dog. [Case-by-Case (Must Meet First)]OWNER EXPERIENCE: [First Dog]KIDS: Jasper can be uncomfortable with some types of handling and will freeze to let you know he has had enough. To avoid unnecessary conflict, he would do best with older kids that are able to understand how to interact with him appropriately and when to give him space when he asks for it. [12+ (Must Meet First)]ACTIVITY LEVEL: Jasper greatly enjoys spending his time outside, rain or shine! He loves discovering new smells on every bush and tree that he walks by, but after establishing a routine he would also be happy to lay around with his people at the end of the day. A combination of regular exercise and plenty of mental enrichment will best meet his needs. [Good Walking Buddy]VETERINARY CARE: Jasper has a grade 2-3/6 heart murmur, so while this shouldn't impede his day-to-day activities, he may need to be monitored more closely during veterinary procedures. [Above Average]LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Jasper is still at the beginning of his positive training journey, and will do best learning with someone who can offer both patience and confidence while he adjusts. Positive reinforcement training will help Jasper not only learn his basic cues & skills, but also help him to bond with his new owner as well. [Minimal]GROOMING: Because of his fur length and texture, Jasper will need to be brushed consistently to prevent his coat from becoming matted. He would also do well with scheduled appointments with a professional groomer every 6-8 weeks to keep him looking neat and feeling comfortable!
