Story
Current Location: Strasburg, VA Hello! My name is Lucy! I'm thought to be a Dachshund mix about 2 years old and I currently weigh about 31 pounds - though I am still working on getting my post baby shape back! I'm a sweet gal who enjoys the people I've met so far and I get along very well with the other dogs in the house. I especially enjoy snuggling and will jump up on the couch or recliner to lay next to people. I'm house trained, walk well on a leash and do fine in a crate though my foster family doesn't crate me anymore since I've proven to be trustworthy when left alone at night. I'm microchipped and current on my vaccines and monthly preventatives. I do still need to be spayed, which should happen the first week in January. I am heartworm positive so I need to receive that treatment before I can be adopted and should be able to go to my new home by the end of January. I’m looking for my forever family! Is that with you? If so please click “apply for adoption” or submit an application through the Adopt tab. Let’s get our family started!

Story
Whimsy is a quiet, steady companion who enjoys simply being part of your world without needing to be glued to your side. She’s wonderfully independent, happy to relax nearby, join you for an outing, or hang out while you go about your day. She’s the perfect match for someone who appreciates a dog that doesn’t need constant touching or attention to feel connected. When it’s time for fun, Whimsy has plenty of playful, high-energy moments. The rest of the time, she’s a laid-back couch potato who is easy to live with. She’s crate trained, walks beautifully on a leash, rides well in the car, and stays calm and quiet in the home. She’s observant, sweet in her own way, and content to entertain herself. Whimsy would do best in a home without cats. If you’re looking for a calm yet spirited dog who brings companionship without the clinginess, Whimsy might be exactly who you’ve been hoping for. Her adoption fee of $300 covers her spay, vaccines, parasite prevention, and a microchip. Visit www.fullcirclerescueandsanctuary.com to fill out an application.

Story
Located in Tennessee but can be transported to you through Rescue Riders. This girl was brought in with babies when her owner couldn't take care of her. She was not socialized very well so will need some work. She will need a very patient person to get her to come out of her shell. She was kept outside so she has no house manners, nor has she been with cats. She does do well with dogs her size and seems to like to play with them. She deserves a new chance to be a loved dog and companion. She will take a lot of time and investment but deserves a chance!

Story
Meet Zo! This sweet dachshund girl is the most breathtaking little queen you've ever seen. Zo arrived at the shelter in the arms of an elderly man who adored her for all 16 of her years. Her family cared for her with devotion, but age caught them faster than it caught Zo. Her dad had recently suffered a stroke and could no longer meet her needs. Zo is settling in beautifully. She eats like a champ, toddles around happily, and is busy sampling every dog bed in the house like a petite, elderly Goldilocks. Deaf from birth, Zo is understandably a bit head shy when surprised. But she's gentle, great with the other dogs, and already turning every heart to mush. Zo is approximately 16 years old and 10 lbs. Fostered in Alexandria, VA Please apply at MirisHaven.org

Story
Meet Scooter. This charming little guy was found running as a stray in Rock Hill, SC, and ended up in the county shelter. One of our volunteers spotted him there and offered to bring him into the rescue, so now Scooter is officially a Worthy Dog. Scooter is currently being fostered by Cindy and Paul, along with their two dogs and their grandkids, who visit often. He’s been wonderful with everyone. He loves playing with the other dogs and especially enjoys his time with their grandkids and their Frenchie, Buster, who’s a young, rough-and-tumble playmate just his style. Scooter is a very friendly pup who enjoys meeting new people and welcomes attention from anyone willing to offer it. He’s affectionate with his family and loves to snuggle on the couch, happily rolling over for belly rubs whenever the mood strikes. He’s been great with housetraining and has shown no destructive tendencies when left alone. Cindy describes Scooter: “He’s confident, social, and very smart. He’s already learned several commands and picked up on our routine quickly. I trust him with free roam in our home, and he’s never been destructive. I think he would be happiest in a home with another dog. He’s playful and really seems to enjoy having company. He quickly learned how to use the doggie door and will even trot over to visit my parents, who live on our property. He’s medium-energy and very calm in the house. I do think he would do best with a yard. He has bursts of energy and will run around outside doing zoomies to get it out. He enjoys playdates; he likes to play, then nap, then play a little more. He would absolutely love another dog to play with, unless his adopter is willing to get outside and throw the ball, play with him regularly, and take him on good walks. I walk him once a day, and his leash skills are still a work in progress. He walks nicely with our daughter’s dog and has made a few new friends at our favorite park, but he can also be barky on leash and has a prey drive for squirrels, and even deer at times. At just 13 lbs, he doesn’t realize his size! He’ll whine and pull to chase, so secure gear and continued leash-manners training will be important.” This friendly social boy will make an excellent companion and family dog. He enjoys being part of a pack and would do best with a playmate.  Scooter will be coming to the DC metro area after the holiday/early January. Apply today!   BREED ESTIMATE: Dachshund Mix GENDER: Male APPROXIMATE WEIGHT:  13 lbs  APPROXIMATE AGE: ~ 2 years old COAT TYPE: Short coat ADOPTION FEE: $425 OTHER INFO: utd on shots/neutered/microchipped LOCATION: Fort Mill, SC    FOR MORE INFO OR TO ADOPT: Please go to https://adopt.worthydog.org and complete the application. You can also help save dogs like this one by becoming a foster, providing a rescue dog with a temporary home and giving them the love and care they need until they are permanently adopted. Every person who fosters is directly responsible for saving the life of a dog, because we can only save as many dogs as we have foster families available to welcome them into their homes. If you think you might be interested in becoming a foster and want to learn more, please go to https://foster.worthydog.org and fill out an application. Story
Name: Monkey Sex: Female Estimated Age: About 9 years old Best Guess for Breed: Chihuahua/Dachshund Mix Weight: About 15 lbs Lives With: Dogs, cats and all people (including kids)! Housebroken? She’s potty trained! Story: Monkey was rescued from a shelter in North Carolina. We are so happy to have her safe and sound in a foster home in the DC area now. Monkey is a happy sweetie who loves people and gets along great with other dogs and puppies. She knows just how to get comfortable up on the couch with her humans, and will love to join you on walks and trots around the neighborhood. Monkey is just looking for someone to be her new best furend and we know that she will repay them with endless amounts of love and tail wags. Like all dogs, Monkey will need an adopter who is committed to setting her up for success by enrolling in obedience training and exercising her both mentally and physically. She will also need love, patience, and socialization in order to thrive! What my foster says: Monkey is just the sweetest. She’s potty trained and hasn't had any accidents in the apartment. She's done great with other dogs as well as cats at her temporary foster (!!). Monkey's favorite thing is belly rubs and meal times! Monkey doesn't need any fancy outdoor area (she’d be a great apartment dog), just your love, attention, and the occasional stroll around the neighborhood. Don't let her gray face fool you, though! Monkey has her bouts of energy where she still gets those zoomies and wants to play catch with her favorite mouse toy. She's also content with just sleeping and watching over what you're doing, and she's done fantastic alone as well at home whenever I run errands or am out with friends. My favorite thing about her is that she'll get under the covers and snuggle there the whole night, so if you ever wanted your own personal, soft heater, you'll find it in her. Just in time for the cold season ahead!  The fee to adopt Monkey is $350. That covers the cost of all her vaccines, her spay, the collar she’s wearing, her transport to DC and her care in her foster home. She’s up to date on all age appropriate vaccines. If you think that Monkey might be your perfect match, apply today!       October 27, 2025, 1:38 pm
