Here is a boy with quite a story. Budd is a 3-year-old Dachshund mix weighing 30 pounds. He came to us having been saved from euthanasia. You see, his hind legs were paralyzed and not everyone thought he could have a good life this way. Well, we in rescue have other ideas! In fact, weâÂÂve been working with him and Budd has made a lot of progress that his foster would be happy to tell you about. But Budd is more than a guy with special needs. HeâÂÂs a regular fella, too! HeâÂÂs good with dogs of all sizes, loves dog beds and chew bones and is a boy with high energy! The most wonderful thing about Budd is that heâÂÂs always happy! You will be, too, if you make him yours! Gracie is a one-of-a-kind low-riding, wide eared phenomenon who will stare directly into your eyes as if she has an important communication for you, The right adopter will be able to hear her. Her breed blend is a bit of a mystery. Basset? Dachshund? Who knows? Who cares? Not Gracie. Her legs measure approximately 11 baby carrots in length but she toddles through the room with the confidence of a an Amazon. Her ears are wide enough to pick up satellite signals, ensuring free cable for her new family! Gracie is a genuinely lovely little companion. She adores her people, enjoys a slow, thoughtful stroll {emphasis on slow}, and would happily spend the rest of her days being near you while you do absolutely anything… or nothing at all. She is the perfect home companion. Housetrained, good on the leash, happy to go for car rides, generally sleeps through the night. She is happy to spend all her time with her human and wants to be the one and only pet. Her vision and hearing seem pretty solid. Due to her back pain, she has trouble with stairs and would prefer to be carried up and down, like the queen that she is. Gracie would love for her new home to have a fenced yard where she can amble around, sniff things, and soak up the rays. She'd also love to go for lots of walks, have plenty of snuggle time, and enjoy a calm, quiet routine with her beloved human. She is hoping her human will be home most of the time or take her with wherever they go. She loves to be petted and snoodled and talked to. She will follow you everywhere! Not only will she lie AT your feet, she will lie ON your feet! Gracie has cushing's disease, so she will need to stay on medication to help her manage it for life. She also has some arthritis, including the above-mentioned back pain, which is benefitting from joint supplements like Cosequin and medications like gabapentin. She will also benefit from routing anal expressions (sorry, Gracie!). Gracie is a happy, happy dog, with the waggiest tail you could imagine! Meet Bob! Bob is a handsome dude with the perfect balance of adventure and snuggles. He is always up for exploring the yard, sniffing out his next great digging spot, or curling up beside his favorite people for some quality cuddle time. Bob is an affectionate, curious boy who loves people, treats, and anything involving attention. He'll happily join you for a leisurely walk before settling in for a cozy nap. His foster says he has *very* selective hearing, especially when he's discovered a new place to dig. If you call his name, he'll pretend not to hear you... but the wagging tail gives him away every time. Bob gets along well with other dogs, though he'd prefer to soak up all the attention as your one and only pup. Cats, however, are a definite no-thank-you. He would do best in a calm home without young children, ideally with someone who's home much of the time and enjoys a quieter pace of life. Bob doesn't mind going for leash walks, although he also likes to wander in the yard. He isn't the biggest fan of car rides yet. Bob's vision is extremely limited, but he still gets around well, enjoys going up and down stairs, and doesn't let age or vision issues slow him down. He does need eye drops, but he's a good sport about them. Most importantly, he has a huge heart and so much love to give. Bob's ideal home would have a fenced yard (where he's allowed to do some digging) and a family that loves to snuggle with him. He would prefer a calm and quiet environment with a routine. Left home alone in a crate, he does well. Left loose he may get into a tiny bit of mischief. If you're looking for a loyal little sidekick who will keep you company on your adventures and happily snuggle up afterward, Bob can't wait to meet you. Bob is approx 12 years old and 10 lbs. Meet Cara! This adorable little 12-lb girl is loving, affectionate, and playful. Cara’s favorite activities include long walks, hikes, a good game of fetch or tug, and any opportunity to snuggle up next to her people. At night she may even want to sleep on your pillow! And when you come home, she will be right there to great you enthusiastically. She is very food motivated so should be quite trainable if you’d like her to learn obedience skills or tricks. This pint-sized cutie has done wonderfully with children and other pets, including large and small dogs as well as cats. However, she does intensely chase small critters outside, such as squirrels. She plays nicely with the other dog in her current home. With the kitties, she will either ignore them or gently sniff them or offer to play. She would prefer not to share her bed with another pet, but she is very polite about this and has never fought over her bed or anything else,. Cara does alert bark when people come to the home and in some other situations. Though it was becoming a bit excessive, her current family has been working with her on this and have found her amenable to learning new habits. This is likely going to be something her new family will need to continue working on, so if barking bothers you or any of your family members, Cara may not be the best fit for you. The barking also makes her not a good candidate for apartment living. Cara is about 18 months old and is up to date on vaccinations. She had some GI issues that appear to be resolved and intermittently appears to favor her left hind leg. She is thought to be a Chihuahua/Dachshund/Chow mix, but this is purely a guess. She will be spayed prior to adoption. She is mostly housetrained but needs a little help learning to “hold it” all night. She does like to sleep in her crate but would prefer not to be shut into it. For housetraining, we advise using an alternative to a crate, such as an exercise pen (no top, so therefore more open) or a small gated off area in a bedroom with one of her humans. This way she can learn and avoid making mistakes without the trauma of feeling isolated or confined. Cara’s current family took her in when her previous family gave her up. Are you looking for a sweet companion to enjoy slow walks and relaxing on the porch? Shadow is around. 7 yrs old and was in a home until recently when her owner had to relocate. Shadow fell right into the groove back in foster care and should adjust well back into a home. She is good on a leash, used to being crated and walked daily as she was living in a townhome. Currently she is sporting a bit of an odd clip from her prior owners groomer but she will grow back her long hair and can be kept to her new owners taste. She recently had a dental and did get most of her back teeth pulled. She has fully recovered and has no issues eating regular dog food. She is current on vaccines and 4DX negative.
