Meet Mackerel Mackerel is an 8-week-old Dachshund/Pit mix puppy who is just starting his life and looking for a loving home to grow up in. He came to the shelter as part of an owner surrender from a backyard breeder dropping off two litters of unwanted puppies. Shortly after arriving, some of the puppies began getting sick and tested positive for parvo. While many of the puppies did not show symptoms, including Mackerel, they were all treated with antibody therapy as a precaution. The good news is that Mackerel and the other puppies are now past all of that and doing great. He is healthy, happy, and ready to head north to Wisconsin to find a loving home of his own. Like any young puppy, Mackerel is playful, curious, and loves attention from people. He is still learning everything about the world around him and will need a family who can help him with the basics such as potty training, crate training, and learning good household manners. Mackerel would do best with a family ready for all the fun (and work) that comes with raising a puppy. With patience, guidance, and lots of love, he will grow into a wonderful lifelong companion.
