Toliver is a sweet, eager-to-please boy who is still learning how to manage his excitement.
Greeting New Friends: He can be a little unsure meeting new people at first and might express hesitation. However, with a calm introduction, he warms up within about 20 minutes and is ready to make friends.
Working on Excitement: When Toliver gets over-stimulated, he tends to express his arousal by getting "mouthy." His current foster uses a super effective redirect strategy—offering him a toy to hold in his mouth—which helps him calm down and self-regulate.
Food & Chews: Toliver loves his high-value snacks! Because he loves his treats so much, he will sometimes try to sneak a chew from other dogs, so he does best when high-value treats are managed thoughtfully.

This dog tested positive for heartworm disease before arriving to the rescue. Heartworm disease is transmitted to a dog through a bite from an infected mosquito producing a positive test in six months. OPH will treat the dog and provide two weeks of recovery time prior to adoption. Potential adopters will receive detailed information on the disease and their role in completing the recovery process from OPH’s heartworm coordinator. With monthly preventatives, the disease is completely preventable.
