Story
We are moving overseas for a temporary job and looking to rehome our beloved pup Archie until we return in January 2026. We adopted Archie in 2014 and he's now the most puppy-faced 10-year-old boy you've ever seen (seriously, we still get stopped on the street constantly asking if he's a puppy!). He has been a loyal companion, witnessing our family grow as we married and welcomed two human babies, now ages 6 and 2. Archie is a top-notch snuggler, full of energy on walks, and incredibly patient with little ones. Until very recently he would run his little heart out at the dog park, consistently faster than dogs half his age. Having spent the first year of his life in shelters, however, he does come with some baggage and still experiences separation anxiety. Archie would do best in a home with at least one person home the majority of the time and/or with another dog to keep him company. He is house-trained, but resists the crate. Please consider taking in our special guy!

Story
Boots was found in the side of the road in PA when he was 13 weeks old! We knew we couldn’t leave him there so we brought him back home and he’s been with us ever since. We were able to locate where he came from but the family did not want him so we just kept him. He will be 1 year old on Aug 3rd. Boots is a very sweet boy who LOVES to play with his ball. He also loves rolling around in grass and going fishing! He loved eating beef tracheas or chewing on his beef cheeks. I would love to keep Boots but unfortunately I am moving aborad for school and no one in my family is experienced enough to take care of him. Boots requires a good amount of physical and mental exercise. Unfortunately, he is leash reactive which is still a work in progress but has gotten so much better and has a VERY high prey drive for anything moving really fast) Boots is also dog selective and primarily only likes female dogs. I hope Boots can find a furever home!

Story
I will be your new best friend! I like nothing more than to sit by your side or even between your legs all the time. I obey instantly because I want to please you. All your belongings are safe with me -- I do not chew anything, not even toys. I am OK with being alone for a couple hours, but please don't leave me all day. I don't bark either, so life with me is very peaceful. I am wary of strangers and want to protect you, so proper introductions are very important. Then I am a lovebug! I do enjoy going outside, either on a walk or exploring my yard for strange smells. When I see you pick up the leash, I get so excited that I can hardly sit still! But because I am a hunting breed, it is a good idea to make sure that no little wildlife is in my yard when I am released. A comfortable bed, good food, and someone to love all day is all I ask! My Profile: Age: 6 years Weight: 67 lbs Good with kids: Yes Good with dogs: Some Good with cats: Unknown but doubtful Fenced yard: Yes Suitable for townhouse and/or apartment: No House trained: Yes. Crate trained: Unknown but not necessary Barks when left alone: No Chews inappropriate items: No Training: Sit, stop, come Activity level: Medium Meet Me If you are interested in Spartacus, consider letting us know by filling out a (no-obligation) adoption application at pgspca.org. NOTE: We are an all volunteer group and do not operate a shelter. All of our animals are in foster homes. We are unable to place our animals outside of the Baltimore/DC area.

Story
Batman is a 2-year-old black and rust male with cropped ears and a natural tail. He is a sweet, friendly, loving boy who follows me around wanting to know everything I’m doing. He is very happy, wiggly and loves to give kisses. He enjoys playing with my dogs or is content to play with a toy or chase his tail. He rides well in the car and walks pretty good on a leash. He is very food motivated and picked up on the routine here quickly. He has good house manners although like a lot of dogs he may take food items off counters if the opportunity presents itself. Check his video https://youtu.be/EDhJ4nkCHac?si=g44dVGyWlRpZ-VfV Batman weighs about 60 pounds and has a big personality. He has a good energy level having plenty of energy for play or exercise but also good to relax and hang out. He is crate trained and likes a Kong or chew toy while in there. He is good out of the crate overnight, but is content to be in his crate when I am not home. He has learned to sit for treats. He’s unknown with cats or small children but is good with other dogs. He’s a happy, super cool guy looking for his forever home. Batman is fostered in Virginia. DAR&E adopts to MD, VA, DC, DE, eastern parts of WV and southern parts of PA. Please check with other Doberman rescues in areas not listed.

Story
Meet Coco! She is a sweet, 9-year-old Blue Doberman. She loves to be anywhere and everywhere that you are! Coco is a healthy girl who weighs about 66 pounds and has a docked tail and natural ears. Coco also has a beautiful full coat of fur. Coco is house trained. She is not a fan of being crated so I have left her with run of the house when I am not home without incident. Coco will whine when I am gone so she would be happiest in a home where someone is around most of the time. Coco enjoys using her nose to explore our yard and loves taking walks in our woods and down our road. Coco may jump around and pull on the leash if she sees a cat or other small animal. Coco gets excited when she sees deer. She also loves to relax and lay in the sun when outside! https://youtu.be/Zcscqwxr1EE?si=Lvbu2x4QHIopaVKA Coco enjoys nibbling on a couple of her favorite plush toys and will usually have one or two with her most of the time. She does like to sleep in our bed, but she tends to stay in her spot and isn’t a bed hog. She also likes to lay next to you on the couch. Coco likes meeting new people, including children, and enjoys getting the extra attention from them. Coco is dog reactive and will need a home without other dogs. Coco is not good with cats. Coco loves to take car rides and will keep watch out the windows for most of the ride. Coco goes with me to my office most mornings. We usually do not see any of my coworkers, but when we do, she enjoys meeting them. Coco is a well-mannered girl who allows me to Dremel her nails, bathe her, and wipe her feet when wet before coming inside the house. If you’re looking for an older, calmer Doberman than Coco would be a great companion for you. She is currently located in Virginia. DAR&E adopts to MD, VA, DC, DE, eastern parts of WV and southern parts of PA. Please check with other Doberman rescues in areas not listed.

Story
Penny is roughly 1 year old female with docked tail and natural ears. She came to us by way of an owner surrender through no fault of her own. She has been such a joy to foster and we all have a special place in our hearts for her! Even though she is young, she is an “old soul” and just wants to be with you and give/receive love. She will nuzzle you for pets while at the computer, rolls over asking for belly rubs every chance she gets, and seeks to fall asleep on the couch with her head in your lap. Everyone that she meets quickly becomes smitten with her affectionate nature! She is housetrained, knows basic commands, is not destructive, has a mellow personality, and is a velcro dog. She does not play with many toys but loves a good dental chew. She has hesitation towards a crate, but doesn’t need one. She has had full run of the house without any incident. She doesn’t get on furniture except for the couch, and that is where you will find her 80% of the time. Penny loves to prop her head up on a couch pillow and wait for you to come join her. When not on the couch she loves to be on the deck to watch the birds and squirrels that come to the bird feeder. Penny likes to run after the critters but doesn’t seem to want to catch one. She will slowly walk towards the squirrels and get within a few feet of them almost as if she was trying to talk to them. She wouldn’t be a good dog for an active lifestyle. She walks well on the leash, and it’s more like a leisurely stroll than exercise. She doesn’t pull until she sees wildlife and then she uses her 66lb body to pursue them. It would be best to have a large fenced in yard for her to roam freely. No matter where she is, she wants to meet every human she sees! She will pull you towards both adults and kids so she can lean against them and nuzzle them to be petted. She is very friendly with people but is timid around other dogs. If you adopt Penny be ready to meet everyone on walks, restaurant patios, stores, and at the office. She is the perfect office dog and is quiet, makes the rounds greeting people, and naps under the desk. She is an extremely passive dog and will not do well in a household with dominant dog(s). It may take some time for her to build her confidence, but currently she won’t stand her ground when another dog takes something from her or pushes her out of the way. She responds very well to positive reinforcement training due to her sensitive nature. She is good with kids and possibly cats, but that has not been fully tested. She will never be a guard dog, but seeks to be a loving member of the family. She doesn’t bark and is not afraid of thunderstorms or loud noises such as the vacuum. Like most Dobermans she does not like to be in the rain and will hold her bladder for 24 hours+ until the rain stops before going potty. Penny is located in Richmond, Virginia. DAR&E adopts to MD, VA, DC, DE, eastern parts of WV and southern parts of PA. Please check with other Doberman rescues in areas not listed.
