When we had the chance to give him warmth, stability, and love, we stepped in to foster him while he waits for his forever family. In foster care, Panda has shown just how adaptable he is. He enjoys playing tug-of-war, running around with canine friends, and also happily entertaining himself with toys or soaking up one-on-one time with his people. Marco was surrendered by his owner because they were unable to care for him properly. He had to be kept from another dog on the property, and he ended up in several fights, with injuries. The minute he came here, he was a happy, sweet boy, full of energy.Marco is a super loving dog who doesn’t know his size and strength and was never trained properly with boundaries for safety. These breeds get a bad reputation because they often serve as simply a guard dog, when they are so much more. Will he detour strangers from entering your home, yes, absolutely, but he’d prefer to do it from a couch or a comfy dog bed and not chained up or left outdoors consistently. He would also enjoy a large yard where he could run and play and if there is proper shelter, he could be part of our Outdoor Explores Club.Marco will need obedience training after being adopted. Our experienced volunteers are working with him now and he is responding well to positive re-enforcement. He should have continued training until the adopter is confident that their cues and commands are observed and followed by him.He is not crazy about other dogs currently, yet we continue to safely try with our play groups to see if there is certain type of dog that he is partial to. For now, he would need to be the only PET in the home. We are unsure if he has been around children, so a meet and greet is a must. Not a first time dog for anyone, experienced only!2/9/26 making good progress in the play group with other bigs!

When he’s not winning friends and influencing people on his many adventures, Opus is a dog of simple pleasures at home. He loves to snuggle with his foster family, join in on kitchen dance parties, and sunbathe. He lives with other large dogs who he loves to play and rest with, and he has even paid it forward by being a big brother to many little foster puppies throughout his time in our program. About that stroller: Opus had a rough start to his life and sustained some injuries that have reduced his mobility. He’s able to get around the house, but will need your help with a few daily activities. And Opus does have some preferences about architectural design—due to his mobility, he would prefer a home with minimal stairs and a yard for his lounging pleasures. Yeti is on our `Call to Action` list due to some challenging behaviors we`ve noticed here at the shelter--especially around other dogs. Yeti has a team of staff and volunteers who are working with him and he`s making amazing progress, but he is still a high energy dog who needs consistent exercise and enrichment. The shelter environment is difficult for him, and we think he needs out ASAP. Yeti would be best in a home with no other animals as he`s working on his skills, and likely adults or older children. He loves to play with his ball and he will gladly chase them for as long as you`ll throw them, and return them to your feet. This dog is on our `Call to Action` list because his handlers are limited to our more skilled staff and volunteers. This limitation is necessary for the safety of the dog, volunteers, and staff - but it also means his opportunities for enrichment and social interaction can be limited as well. The need for careful handling is because Cassadano has a low tolerance for body handling - sometimes when petting or touching him, he turns and snaps. Usually, it doesn’t seem like he is committed to a hard bite, more like a warning to get you to stop, but it is a bite nonetheless. He has been in our care going on 2 years in March 2026. No one has been able to take on a dog like him. He’s won over many staff and volunteers with his fun-loving, goofy personality and his exceptional playfulness with other large dogs. He has probably helped our playgroup team evaluate hundreds of dogs, if not more! It’s heartbreaking to see him grow up in a shelter, it’s no place for a dog to live long term. We hope there is someone who is willing to see past his initial unwillingness to be pet, take it slow like we have over the last year or so, and let Cassadano come around in his own time. @vcanimalservices Cassadano, the boxer mix who LOVES other dogs ?? If you’ve got a rowdy dog at home who wants a playmate, Casso is a perfect candidate. If you are looking for a goober of a dog who will put a smile on your face every single day, Cassa D is the MAN. Cassadano has spent nearly a year in shelter. He can be wary of strangers, and is not the most cuddly dog out there, so is unfortunately passed over. ?? He appreciates meeting new humans slowly, but is well worth the time spent to become his friend. And if you’ve got treats… it may not take that much time at all!
