Yeti is on our `Call to Action` list due to some challenging behaviors we`ve noticed here at the shelter--especially around other dogs. Yeti has a team of staff and volunteers who are working with him and he`s making amazing progress, but he is still a high energy dog who needs consistent exercise and enrichment. The shelter environment is difficult for him, and we think he needs out ASAP. Yeti would be best in a home with no other animals as he`s working on his skills, and likely adults or older children. He loves to play with his ball and he will gladly chase them for as long as you`ll throw them, and return them to your feet. This dog is on our `Call to Action` list because his handlers are limited to our more skilled staff and volunteers. This limitation is necessary for the safety of the dog, volunteers, and staff - but it also means his opportunities for enrichment and social interaction can be limited as well. The need for careful handling is because Cassadano has a low tolerance for body handling - sometimes when petting or touching him, he turns and snaps. Usually, it doesn’t seem like he is committed to a hard bite, more like a warning to get you to stop, but it is a bite nonetheless. He has been in our care going on 2 years in March 2026. No one has been able to take on a dog like him. He’s won over many staff and volunteers with his fun-loving, goofy personality and his exceptional playfulness with other large dogs. He has probably helped our playgroup team evaluate hundreds of dogs, if not more! It’s heartbreaking to see him grow up in a shelter, it’s no place for a dog to live long term. We hope there is someone who is willing to see past his initial unwillingness to be pet, take it slow like we have over the last year or so, and let Cassadano come around in his own time. @vcanimalservices Cassadano, the boxer mix who LOVES other dogs ?? If you’ve got a rowdy dog at home who wants a playmate, Casso is a perfect candidate. If you are looking for a goober of a dog who will put a smile on your face every single day, Cassa D is the MAN. Cassadano has spent nearly a year in shelter. He can be wary of strangers, and is not the most cuddly dog out there, so is unfortunately passed over. ?? He appreciates meeting new humans slowly, but is well worth the time spent to become his friend. And if you’ve got treats… it may not take that much time at all! We have had Chanel since she was a puppy and are so incredibly sad to rehome her due to our current living situation. She is the sweetest dog and loves to play and cuddle (she likes to think she’s a lapdog lol). She is crate and house trained, loves to run outside and in the water, walks well on a leash, knows basic commands (sit, stay, lay down, off, out). She is gentle and loving to kids and loves to play with other dogs. She can be a bit reactive to other dogs if not approached appropriately and if another dog is in the house she sometimes resource guards her food (we have been training her not to recently and she is improving). Dog parks can be overwhelming for her, so we typically avoid them. She does not react well to cats. She thrives in a house with a yard where she can lay out vs an apartment. We are not asking for a rehoming fee and will also provide her crate and remaining food. We would like to see her go to a loving home that can give her the attention she deserves.

In a recent foster home Alani was reported to be an absolute lovebug who would cuddle on the couch, loved chasing a ball, is housebroken, and does the cutest zoomies. She`s done great meeting people of all ages at adoption events, and has played well with other large dogs. @freshpatch Meet Alani ???? She's been waiting far too long for a family of her own. During our visit to Ventura County Animal Services, we had the chance to spend time with this sweet girl and learn that she's one of many wonderful dogs who have been overlooked while waiting for a second chance.
