Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Smokey, a remarkable cat, has spent her entire life as a stray until she was rescued. Though she's initially quite fearful, she's gradually opening up to the affection she deserves. I have every confidence that Smokey will blossom swiftly once she finds herself in a nurturing and loving environment. A tranquil home without children or dogs would be ideal for her. She thrives in the company of other cats and demonstrates her sociable nature in such settings. All Smokey requires is a home filled with patience and love, where she can continue her journey toward feeling secure and cherished. Smokey is from a stray surrender with one sibling. An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract. To learn more about Ruff Start’s adoption process and the care our foster animals receive, please visit our How to Adopt page. If you'd like to donate towards this pet's care, you can donate to our Animal Care Fund.   Our Animal Care Fund supports the medical and veterinary needs for all Ruff Start Rescue animals. You'll be able to enter this pet's name on the second page of the donation form. Want to adopt a kitten? We highly recommend you consider bringing home two instead of one! Adopting kittens in pairs has been proven to be beneficial for cats’ emotional and behavioral well-being and greatly improves the likelihood of long-term adopter happiness as a result. Adopting more than one kitten also reduces the risk of “Single Kitten Syndrome” (also known as Tarzan Syndrome), a symptom of under-socialization during a kitten’s most formative weeks. Kittens who are under-socialized may develop aggressive tendencies toward both other animals and humans as they grow, creating lifelong behavioral issues for owners. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. *This animal is a part of our “Seniors for Seniors” program where we offer senior adopters an opportunity to adopt an eligible pet at a discounted fee.* Breeze is a charming old man who loves to be near his people. He came to his foster family in mid-April, and immediately was interested in receiving attention. It took a few days before he became more comfortable approaching and exploring his new apartment on his own, and once he did, he revealed a playful side as well by chasing catnip mice and climbing on his cat tree. He uses his scratching post/pads like a champ! He is very gentle and hasn't displayed any bad habits in a comfortable environment. He is a loud purrer and will vocalize when he needs something. Breeze loves petting, belly rubs, and giving hugs. His last owner even said he will sleep under the blankets with you, though he hasn't quite settled in enough in his foster home to exhibit that behavior. Breeze originally came from Utah, where he lived with a family. That family had a young child who pulled on his whiskers, and now he is very scared of young children. Due to this incident, he was rehomed in Utah. He also grew up with large dogs that he got along with. He made the journey from Utah to Minnesota with his most recent owners, and was doing alright. Unfortunately, his relationship with their other cats was not great, and continued to deteriorate to the point they felt surrender was the best option. With that, Breeze will need to go to a home without young kids or other cats.    Breeze is severely lactose intolerant and has a food sensitivity to chicken, so he is on a specific diet and a thorough examination of ingredients is required before he tries new foods.  Breeze is from an owner surrender. Story
Hello. My name is Lady Cecelia. I am a beautiful girl who lost my home because I hate strangers. That's right...I don't like anyone but my person. I guess some would call me an introvert. I just don't see the need to socialize outside of my favorite people. I am perfectly happy bonding with my selected humans. I also prefer to be any only pet which shouldn't be a surprise to you. I tend to be crabby towards other kitties. What do I like? Yummy food, sunshine, bird tv, and affection on my terms. I also like to supervise what you are doing around the house. Oh and brushing. I love it! After all, a girl has to keep up with her beauty. There has to be someone out there just like me. Someone who is a homebody, that doesn't like a lot of company, who just wants a cat roomie to chat with and keep them company. If you do have people over and I don't like them I have no issue going and relaxing in bed. I am a misunderstood girl but I deserve love. Story
Hello, My name is Julie. I was surrendered to SFAAR by my owner. She had said that I was getting picked on by the resident cats & hiding a lot. Unfortunately with SFAAR I haven't adapted well. They've found I do best with no cats or just one that won't bother me. They have a feeling I was the trouble maker in the previous home. I have been extremely nervous & shy in my foster home. Its been about 6 months and am finally starting to come around. I'm looking for a cat experienced owner that understands I may hide, shy away from attention for awhile. Persistance & patience will pay off with me as I now follow my foster mom around and allow pets. I would not do well in a busy environment with a lot cats and definitely not kids(unless older). SFAAR is willing to adopt me into the right home that understands I may not be the purrfect companion to start but with a little patience & TLC I know I will do my best to show you how much I do appreciate you giving me a second chance at a forever home.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 27, 2024, 4:30 pm

Story
This is Nala. She is an absolutely stunning girl who would love to find a forever home of her own without any other feline friends. She does well with small, cat friendly dogs as long as they ignore her. She was found in rough condition as a stray and has lived a life of luxury since being found. She loves wet food, being brushed daily, and playing with you at night before bed. She enjoys being in your company but isn’t a fan of being held although she enjoys being petted and doted on. Nala is a shy girl at first, but when she warms up and trusts, she is a chatty girl who starts purring the moment she sees you. Due to her quiet nature, I think she would thrive in either a child free home or with older, respectful kids over the age of 12.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 27, 2024, 4:30 pm
