Story
Arianna began and has lived most her life as a stray cat, kind people were able to grab her and bring her into their home so she could begin the next leg of her journey. Arianna has the goal set of her finding her own humans who can offer her a nice space to lounge around and just live her best life. Arianna would prefer to live in a home with no children and the dog in her finders' home made her a bit uneasy. Do you want to make a difference in a special kitty's life? Consider adopting one of Dakin's "Spirit Cats. These cats are fearful of people and don't require a lot of attention. What they do need is a place to park their paws in a quiet home where they'll be loved just the way they are. One day, you may find that you've earned their trust and get head butts and maybe even a bedtime buddy. But there are no guarantees. Your visitors will never see them because they'll quietly slip away and disappear into a closet. Spirit Cats may enjoy being around their own kind and sometimes make great companions for other cats. Are you ready to make a difference in a special kitty's life? This pet is part of our Lonely Hearts club. Story
Are you looking for a comfort cat? Mesha might be the one who gets you through those rough days at work, or the doldrums of chore days. An experienced lap cat, she's the kind of kitty who can sense when you're upset and will cuddle with you. Of course, in this kind of weather, you may not appreciate a lap cat with long fur, but in winter you'll be grateful you've got her. While she's not a fan of being picked up, she enjoys pets on her head and cheeks, but her rear end by her tail is off limits. Things on her "like list" include being brushed, getting treats from guests and lots of toys. She especially likes wand toys and items such as the time-tested favorite, the paper bag...with a noisy ball in it. As for loud noises, they make her nervous because she's used to living in a calm, adult household. Mesha lived with a dog for a short time and did well with him; however, she hasn't lived with other cats. Along with her sweet personality, she is a real beauty and is accustomed to being the center of attention. She has lived indoors with the same person her entire life. Mesha needs someone new to comfort and someone who will also comfort her during her transition. Maybe you are the person who will help her begin the next chapter of her life. Sassy cats are usually confident, intelligent and active. They often don't like to be held, or have places on their bodies that they prefer not to be touched. When handled or petted in ways they do not prefer, they are likely to swat, nip or bite. They will be happiest in adult only homes or those with older kids who understand cats that have rules and will leave them alone. If they are bored then they may get into trouble and often need extra playtime in order to be their best selves. Sassy cats will go home with a behavior plan that will need to be followed in order for EVERYONE in the home to be happy. Typically, sassy cats are not for first-time cat owners. Story
Sweet Cece is as sweet as pie. She is friendly, affectionate, and a couch potato. She enjoys cuddles and lounging around with her favorite person. She can be hesitant to change since she's dealt with a lot of it but once you gain her trust, she'll be all over you. She prefers a home with older kids, younger children make her uncomfortable. She does enjoy the company of other cats and calm dogs, too. Change is hard for this cat. This cat will be very nervous when you first bring them home. You will need to set up a room with a litter box, food, and water. It will take days for this cat to become comfortable and confident in the new home. This cat will be going home with a behavior plan that will need to be followed in order for everyone to transition successfully. Morris was brought in as a stray cat. He had been wondering the neighborhood for a few months while a friendly caretaker tried to find his owners. With no luck, Morris ended up with us at Dakin. Story
How about adding a Donut to your morning coffee? Not any donut, THIS Donut. This kitty came to Dakin as a stray. Her finder just raved about this gal! If you're looking for an affectionate lap cat, this is the kitty for you! She is friendly but can be a little shy at times. She's playful, independent, great with children and love head pets. She's also a hunter so if you have any nuisance critters, she might be able to help you out. She was initially quite shy when she came to Dakin, but now she comes right out and approaches staff when they enter her room, booping their hands and enjoying the pets. She's a little nervous about sounds, so she may need time to settle into her new environment. Do you crave a kitty who has all the makings of a great companion? How about adopting Donut to sweeten your life? Change is hard for this cat. This cat will be very nervous when you first bring them home.
