You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. All of the animals posted on our site have been temperament tested. While not all are in the immediate area, once we have processed and approved your application, we will move the dog to our adoptive area for you to meet, greet and hopefully adopt. Sometimes we will have more than one application on a dog. That does not mean it automatically goes to another family but you should be aware of the fact that until you are approved and set up for the meet/greet.. the dog could get adopted by another applicant.Rufus is looking for a kind and gentle peron who will understand that he was a good boy all his life and thought he would live that life out with his person. Sadly, his person has had to go into assisted living and Rufus was not invited to join him. He is totally confused and doesn't understand what has happened to the world he knew. Older now, it is harder for him to start again, but he is so deserving of this chance. He doesn't know he did nothing wrong and can't even imagine someone loving him again. You could be that person. Please note that he is good with other dogs who are calm and nervous around jumpy, bouncy dogs. He waits to see what each day brings him. We hope it will be happiness. You could make such a difference.A SPECIAL NOTE TO YOU FROM HIS FOSTER: 'He is doing great! He does great with us now. He loves treats & chasing water from the hose. He tries to bite the water. He loves the game. The ideal situation would be a one dog home. Maybe someone older, since he was used to that, but I think he would do well with anyone.' Good with dogs, Spayed or Neutered, Shots are up-to-date,
Please contact Kallie Brennan ( for more information about this pet.not of the Moe and Larry type! CURLY NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name: Curly      Best Guess for Breed:  Flat coated retriever and Lab mix    Best Guess for Age:   2 years as of April 2024     SEX:  Male   Approximate Weight:  50 lbs   Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen him with kids or cats but he can be tested   Currently Living at:    South Carolina shelter; needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to get his freedom ride up here.   Special adoption considerations: Curly is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs.  All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care.  After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months. We are happy to discuss this treatment and which phase of the study this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left!  Curly is Looking For:  A home where he gets treated with dignity and respect. He's tired of going to the dog park and being greeted by jeers - 'Where's Larry? Where's Moe?' and being victim of juvenile slapstick pranks. Enough of that. Plus, his coat is extra lush and gorgeous, so that name is extra irritating.    What he wants is long sniffy walks, romps in the park, and all the adventures his humans can dream up. He's in his prime and world exploration is high on his wish list! Quality kibble and a cushy dog bed are on it too, but you know what he wants most of all? To know he's safe and loved for all his days - and to whom to devote all the loyalty in his heart.   What do you say? Will that be you?   What My Foster Says About Me:   We will update this once he has arrived in the DC area and spent some time with his foster   Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT:    The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment.  If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at   Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption. That said, we cannot make any guarantees about age, breed or temperament.   Thank you for contacting Lucky Dog Animal Rescue and helping to save a life!  Please visit us online at   .    BE A FOSTER!!!    Fosters make it possible for Lucky Dog Animal Rescue to save and care for homeless and abandoned dogs!  To learn about fostering, please contact   !
