Story
Clara is a 4 year old low key doodle looking for a calm home that will help her lose some weight and get back on a regular exercise regime to lose some weight. Her family had twins, and she has been left out of activities for the past year and is really craving some attention. She is very easy-going, requires regular grooming as any doodle does, and just loves to hang out with her people. She has not led a very social life and is used to a fenced yard. She knows how to ring bells on the door to let you know she needs to go out to go to the bathroom. She could use a patient person who can help her in the transition to a new home. contact irondawgs13@gmail.com for adoption application.

Story
Pepper is a beautiful happy pup that showed up at an apartment complex as a youngster. She has been passed around from apartment to apartment but grew into a 60 pound dog that still needs to do more filling out. The person who keeps her asked Rescue to find her a bigger home with a yard and more exercise than what she was getting out of the small apartments. She is a high energy girl with a lot of fancy moves and does very well on a leash. She could use a little more training, but her breed mix is extremely smart and she would learn very very fast. She would make an excellent running or hiking partner, and do fabulous with agility or obstacle courses. She is very social and loves everybody. She meets and currently lives with some cats. She is crate trained, and has very good house manners and is an excellent dog that will make her new family extremely happy. contact irondawgs13@gmail.com for adoption application

Please contact Paul Slebzak (pauls@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.Good boy looking for his forever home! GP NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name:   GP      Best Guess for Breed:    Flat Coat Retriever mix   Best Guess for Age:    5 years as of May 2026      SEX:    Male   Approximate Weight:    49 lbs   Gets Along With:  Other dogs!  We haven't seen them with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters!   Currently Living at:    South Carolina shelter - GP needs a foster or adopter to make his way to the DC area   Special adoption considerations: GP is a truly Lucky Dog. He tested positive for heartworms, but landed in a place where heartworm treatment is provided! Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites. Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. Heartworm dogs can resume full active and normal lives, but need to be kept calm for 4-6 weeks after treatment. We are happy to discuss where in the treatment process this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left!   GP is Looking For:     GP is has a gorgeous long dark coat and a gentle expression that instantly draws you in. This sweet boy recently found himself in need of a new home after his previous owner became too sick to care for him anymore. While the transition has been a big change, GP is ready for a fresh start with a family to call his own. He’s hoping to find a home where he can settle in, enjoy life at a comfortable pace, and share plenty of love and loyalty with his new people. After losing the only home he knew, GP deserves a second chance with a family who will cherish him through all of life’s adventures — big and small. Could you be the one to give this beautiful boy the happy new chapter he’s been waiting for? Story
Buddy is a 4-year-old, 80 lb Labrador mix with a big heart and lots of energy. He loves being outside, going on walks, playing, and especially anything involving water. He’s very affectionate and enjoys being close to his people. Buddy is intelligent, eager to please, and a quick learner. With structure and consistency, he has all the potential to become an incredible companion. His journey hasn’t been easy—after being adopted, his previous owner moved out of the country and couldn’t take him. He’s currently with family who care about him but aren’t able to meet his needs given their age and his size. Buddy would do best with an experienced owner who can provide time, training, and an active lifestyle. He has done well with other dogs in daycare when properly introduced. We’re committed to finding Buddy a loving, stable home where he can truly thrive.

Story
Sometime, the best laid plans fall apart despite best efforts and intentions... Sirena is the sweetest girl with most gorgeous soft golden locks. She came to us 3 years ago with her litter of puppies. She was adopted then to an older couple, who had someone lined up to take Sirena if something were to happen to them. Devastatingly, now 3 years later, they are no longer able to care for her due to health concerns, and the person who had said she would look after Sirena is no longer up for the task. Sirena now is back to square one, again, looking for a forever home. She is now much older than she was 3 years ago, making her not as "marketable", and we are put on a time crunch to find her a new foster or forever home before she becomes homeless yet again. Sirena is now a chunky 50lb 5 year old girl, whose ideal weight should be closer to 45lbs. She is a medium energy lay-arounder who enjoys watching TV with her family. When it comes to humans, she bonds fiercely and gives her trust unconditionally to those who love her and respect her agency of choice. She needs a little time to warm up to strangers before letting them into her circle of trust. Her soulful and expressive eyes are constantly seeking to find connections. She is generally a quiet and reserved girl who enjoys the company of humans but not in an in-your-face or on-your-lap kind of way. Sirena is crate trained, potty trained, walks well on the leash, and has great house manners. She enjoys running around in her fenced backyard and playing with her flirt pole. She's wicked smart and loves to be engaged in training. She does have a strong prey drive and herding instincts, so a home with small children or small animals would not be a good fit. She is also not a fan of slippery floors, nail trimming, and long car rides. But these are easily overcome-able with some rugs, walks on concrete, and calming meds before a long trip. If you live in DC/MD/NoVa and have a quiet gentle patient home without a lot of comings and goings and can give Sirena a place to land as a temporary or permanent home, please fill out an application for her below to begin the process: https://forms.gle/V7qkQ2F5b55J8Nmt9

Story
Truffles was found with an embedded collar around her neck. Despite permanently baring the scars of an unpleasant past, Truffles is loving, friendly, and sweet. Her stuffed animals were her source of comfort and company in her lonely shelter kennel, and now that she's in a foster home, it is still hard not to catch her with a stuffy in her mouth as she rolls around on the floor or in the yard! Truffles is about 4-5 years old, a mature lady who has had some life experience under her belt. She is potty trained and crate trained. Like a typical pittie, she absolute LOVES people and would bark eagerly to meet a new person who has yet to be her best friend. Some people walk right past me and say that she is just a non-descript generic dog. Ouch.. Sure, she doesn't have a fancy pedigree. Nor is she a cute little puppy. Nevertheless, she has SO much love to give, and will be loyal to her humans forever and ever. Truffles is a petite pocket rocket at around 40lbs. She is eager to please and happy to be included. She is not always sure about other dogs because she was attacked by one before. But she has done well with her foster's chihuahuas. She is working on walking better on the leash as she does get a little over-excited when she sees other dogs. She is food motivated so she's been easy to work with in training and can be redirected with a stick of string cheese. She would do really well with continued training given how well she response to positive reinforcement training. She would be an excellent student! A+++ If you live in a quiet low density area in DC/MD/NoVa and can offer Truffles a warm loving home to call her own, please fill out an application for her on our website at https://forms.gle/Cqku4bYLAerEjVCR7 to begin the process!
