River is a TSBR Alum from 2019 who recently lost his dad and is looking for a new place to call his own.  He has matured into just the sweetest gentleman. He is friends with dogs, cats, and loves his humans. He is a true “Flat Coated Retriever”. Enjoying being around everyone and so enjoys  some loving from everyone he meets.  River hardly ever barks except to announce he wants to come back in from an outside adventure or sun puddle.   He is well past those youthful shenanigans and won’t be caught jumping on guests at greeting time.  A well mannered retriever with a sparkle of fun to run and play. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.June 24, 2025, 4:53 pm

Story
Cole is a 1 year old, 60 pound flat-coat retriever mix (our best guess!) who was abandoned in a small-town church parking lot east of Dallas, where he wandered confused and hungry for several days. Once a foster spot finally opened, we discovered he had begun showing signs of an injury to his right rear foot. We don’t know exactly what happened, but his sweet boy ended up with a fractured toe, possible puncture wounds, and pad abrasions.   While he recovers from his physical injury, Cole is absolutely thriving in his foster home—soaking up the company of friendly resident dogs and all the love from his doting foster mom. He’s a happy, friendly, well-rounded guy with a wonderful temperament.   Cole is also heartworm-positive, but he will be starting treatment soon, and DSDA will cover all of his medical care.   This sweet, resilient boy is ready for his next chapter—one filled with safety, love, and a forever family of his own.   To meet Cole in person visit us at www.dsda.org/adopt and submit our online adoption application.  ADOPTION FEE Covers: Core vaccines plus Lepto and Flu, all boosters, microchip, dewormer until clear fecal test & spay or neuter when completed by a DSDA vet partner plus any necessary medical care.  All dogs are on flea, tick and heartworm prevention and you receive the following month's preventatives complementary with your adoption!  * Adoption Fees: Puppies (12 months and under) - $325  Dogs (over 12 months) - $275  Qualifications for Adoption:  No dog is alike and each dog has different requirements based on breed, age, energy level and life experiences. DSDA is very careful to place our dogs in homes that we believe are the best fit for the dog based on our experience with each dog. All of our dogs live in foster homes which allows us the opportunity to learn about their individual needs.  Must be home more than not. Vet checks are required! All resident pets in the applicant's home MUST be spayed or neutered, core vaccines up to date and dogs on heartworm prevention to be considered! No exceptions.  Must be 21 years or older with identification showing present address. Must have the knowledge and consent of all adults living in the household. Must receive proof of pet deposit and lease allowing pets if renting. Willingness and capacity to spend the time and money necessary to provide training, medical treatment and responsible care for a pet. Must have a secure fence if in a house. All poisonous plants must be removed from the yard.  DSDA is located in Dallas and requires a home visit on every adoption so only adopt to Dallas and surrounding areas. ##2573318##

Carly is house-trained, crate-trained, and has a gentle, affectionate personality that makes her a joy to be around. She’s great with kids and other dogs, and she’s slowly learning how to play and interact with her furry foster siblings. Aster is almost 10 months old! We think she's a black Lab/Terrier mix, but the breed mix is 100% guesswork on our part. Aster has THE BEST ears ever. She's a smart, sweet girl that has normal puppy energy. She would be so excited to find her forever home with another playful dog her size so they can have long wrestling sessions and wear each other out! She loves to take walks or hikes and explore all the things along the trail. She does well on leash and wants to use a harness on her walks because it's a great fashion accessory (and helps with learning leash manners). She absolutely loves going to the lake. She doesn't swim, but she splashes around paw-deep in the water like it's the coolest thing ever! Aster's most favorite thing is chasing flying insects, and she has plenty to choose from with all the Cicadas and June Bugs flying around this year. She likes to play fetch and tug with durable toys; the soft stuffed ones only last about 5 minutes! Aster is a little shy when you first meet her but if you toss down a good treat you can be her BFF within a few short minutes. She warms up to women quickly, but will take a little longer with men. Small children make her very nervous, so no kids under the age of 10. She is housebroken and has learned some basic commands - she sits like a champ, absolutely LOVES to chase balls and brings them right back to you and drops them at your feet. She is a smart cookie and will be a fun and loyal companion for the right adopter. The first step to meeting Aster is to submit your application, and one of our adoption counselors will contact you.
