Story
Meet Napoleon, the small but mighty Frenchie. Napoleon came to the Shelter as a stray so we don’t know much about his life before now. Napoleon is personable and soft one on one with people. He would thrive as the only dog in the home as he does not appreciate sharing space or things with other dogs. Napoleon is still perfecting some life skills and manners like potty training and leash walking. He is learning slow and steady on a harness and making progress. To help making potty training a bit more easy (without the barrier of trying to walk Napoleon on leash), adopters with a fenced in backyard will be the best fit. Napoleon can be exuberant and jumpy/mouthy when he is excited so a home free of young children is recommended. Adopters should redirect any mouthing to toys or appropriate chews. Napoleon is available for pre-adoption. Come meet him, fall in love and take him home after his neuter surgery. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.

Story
Meet Draco, the French Bulldog mix. Although just under 40#, Draco is a small, compact dog. He came to the Shelter as an owner surrender after his previous guardian became homeless and was unable to continue caring for him. Draco briefly lived with a small dog in a prior home and, after a period of transition, got along with it. At the Shelter, he has met dogs and did an appropriate greeting of sniffing butts and then disengaging. His previous guardian does report that he was attacked by a dog previously which has resulted in some reactivity to dogs out in the world. We have not seen this at the Shelter, but he has only been here for a short time. Adopters should plan on avoiding high traffic dog areas (like West Cliff and dog parks), especially while Draco decompresses from the Shelter and transitions to the home. Draco has not lived indoors with cats but has coexisted with outdoor cats from a distance on a ranch. A home with a feline friend may be a fit with a slow, thoughtful introduction. He also has history around children but preferred older children who would respect his space. He is house trained and would let his guardian know he has go to potty by going to the door. Draco is a brachycephalic dog (a short nosed dog). His future guardians should be familiar with the medical concerns related to brachycephalic dogs and have the resources (time, finances, etc) to address any long-term care of lifestyle modifications that he needs after adoption. Draco is available for pre-adoption. Come meet him, fall in love and take him home after his neuter surgery. Story
Meet Beau!Beau is a sweet, loving, and highly affectionate Frenchie who is looking for a home where he can be the absolute center of attention. He absolutely loves stealing the spotlight and spending quality time with his humans—especially when he gets to chew on his favorite bones!Ideal Home Environment:• Adults-Only: Beau is great around adults. While he does like kids, his high energy and tendency to get easily excited can sometimes scare them. He will do best in a calm, adult-only household.• Only Pet: Beau does not do well around other animals and needs to be the only pet in the family.• A Calm, Structured Routine: Beau can occasionally get overstimulated or overly excited in busy environments (especially around large groups of people). An experienced owner who can provide him with a quiet, predictable home where he can relax will help him thrive.Health & Wellness:• Beau is fully up to date on all vaccinations.

Looks like: French Bulldog Female, 5 years old (estimated), 18 pounds Meet Edna, proof that the sweetest things in life only get better with age. This darling little Frenchie lady is a gentle senior gal who's mastered the art of taking life one cozy nap, leisurely stroll, and snack break at a time. Edna gets along nicely with other dogs, making her a great addition to a home with a friendly pup already in residence. She's polite, low-key, and brings a calming presence wherever she goes. If your idea of the perfect best friend is a sweet little old lady with a squishy face, a heart of gold, and plenty of love left to give, Edna is ready to waddle her way right into your heart. Miss Edna joined us from Hitchcock Road Animal Services after she landed there as a stray. Due to her senior status and medical needs, they felt that she would do best in an experienced rescue.

Story
Looks like: French Bulldog mix Female, 7 years old (estimated), 28 pounds French Press is a delicate, loving little lady looking to land in a warm bed as soon as possible. French Press would do best as a solo dog in her next home, where she can be the apple of your eye. She is not a dog that can be around cats or other small critters, as she has an extremely high prey drive and has unfortunately attacked a cat. This little Frenchie joined us initially from Hitchcock Road Animal Services and lived as a beloved part of a family for some time. Due to a change in circumstances, she was no longer able to stay with her former home and finds herself looking for a new loving landing spot.
