Story
Theo is extremely smart and active. He really needs an owner that is experienced with the working line dog breeds. We did a DNA test on him and these two breeds were highest percentage. In training, he has done very well. Before the GSD came in his DNA test, we would describe his disposition as more Malinois. If you love that working line dog, he would excel in agility and scentwork. He loves to train and do drill work. Theo would do very well in a home with a confident female dog. He plays and follows the lead of a female dog in his training program. Seems to push back more with a male dog playmate. No cats at this time, but he is getting worked around cats to "leave it" . Any questions you have, please message us or fill out an application on our website www.promiserescue.org

Story
Meet Juno, a five-month-old Shepherd/Mastiff mix with a gentle heart and a growing confidence. Juno came to our facility alongside her siblings after their owner moved and was unable to bring them along. Having had limited socialization, the group needed extra time to adjust to their new surroundings — and Juno has been steadily coming out of her shell ever since. When Juno arrived, she was treated for a large abscess on her neck, likely the result of some roughhousing with her siblings. With antibiotics, attentive wound care, and plenty of TLC, she has been healing well and continues to make great progress. Juno enjoys spending quiet time with staff and volunteers and is especially comforted by the presence of other dogs. She truly blossoms when she has a canine companion nearby and would benefit greatly from a home with another dog to help boost her confidence and show her the ropes of being a beloved Pet. Juno is ready to continue her journey in a patient, loving home that will support her as she grows into the wonderful companion she’s meant to be. As Juno is still working on first time experiences and becoming comfortable with new settings, she is looking for a home without younger children (10+). Her adoption fee is $200, which includes her vaccines, fecal exam, deworming, current flea prevention, registered microchip, and spay. She is already fixed! Call our office for adoption details at 815-725-0333. Located in Joliet, IL.

Story
Meet Sage! Sage is a gentle German Shepherd boy born at the end of April who is looking for a very special kind of home. He’s a sensitive soul who can be shy with new people and new situations, and he needs a patient, understanding family who will give him the time and space he needs to feel safe. Sage does best in a calm, predictable environment where he isn’t rushed to “be brave.” Trust is something he builds slowly, but it is incredibly meaningful once earned. Having a confident, friendly resident dog in the home is required for Sage. Another dog helps him feel secure, shows him the ropes, and gives him the reassurance he needs to come out of his shell. When Sage does trust you, he truly shines. He becomes loving, loyal, and deeply connected to his people, making him a wonderful companion for someone who understands that the best relationships are worth waiting for. His ideal family will celebrate small victories, move at his pace, and find joy in watching a shy puppy grow into a confident dog. Sage is looking for a home filled with patience, kindness, and another canine friend to guide him. In return, he’ll offer quiet devotion, gentle affection, and a bond that’s built on trust and understanding.   If you are interested in adopting/meeting this pup , please complete our online adoption application that you can find here: https://www.starfishanimalrescue.com/adopt/dog-adoption-application  . Your application will be reviewed by our team and if it is a good fit, we will send to the foster family to set up a meet! The adoption fee of $400 will include spay/neuter, microchip, age appropriate/required vaccinations, treatment for heartworm and any other necessary medical treatment to assure a healthy new pup for your family. IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER: Although we do our best to describe breed, since our pups all come from shelters we can not and will not make any guarantee on breed or size. Story
Meet Barrett, a handsome 5-year-old German Shepherd weighing in at 82 lbs. This loyal boy is fully housebroken and ready to find his forever family. Barrett is the perfect mix of energetic and affectionate—he loves going for walks and spending time outdoors, especially in a securely fenced yard where he can explore and play to his heart’s content. He gets along well with cats and has done fine with other dogs. Because he can sometimes be a little mouthy when excited, Barrett would do best in a home without small children. He’ll thrive with an experienced owner who enjoys staying active and can provide structure, companionship, and lots of love. If you’re looking for a loyal adventure buddy who will also be your best friend, Barrett is your guy! The adoption fee of $150 will include spay/neuter, microchip, age appropriate/required vaccinations, treatment for heartworm and any other necessary medical treatment to assure a healthy new pup for your family. Story
Meet Luffy — a 31-lb, 1-year-old, neutered German Shepherd mix with a heart as big as his ears. Luffy didn’t always know what it meant to be a carefree pup. After spending much of his early life in a kennel, he’s now discovering just how wonderful the world can be — and watching him experience “firsts” has been pure magic. The first time he found a toy? Pure joy. The first time he mastered stairs? So proud. Now that he’s tasted freedom, Luffy is blossoming into the happiest little shadow you could ask for. He loves carrying his toys around the house, following his people wherever they go, and handing out the sweetest kisses. He’s house-trained and enjoys being outside — especially if you’re out there with him. More than anything, Luffy just wants to be near his family. Because of his past, he’s still learning that his people aren’t going anywhere. He may cry briefly when settling into his crate at night, but it doesn’t last long — soon he’s sleeping peacefully until morning. And when he hears the household waking up? That tail starts wagging like crazy, especially when he sees his favorite little human. He is incredibly gentle and loving with kids and has shown such a sweet, patient nature. Luffy also adores other dogs. When he met a pup his size, he was in absolute heaven having a playmate! With his youthful energy and playful spirit, he would thrive in an active home with older kids (8+) and maybe even a canine sibling to romp around with. Luffy is ready to leave to start his forever adventure with a family who will love him as much as he loves them. If you’re looking for a loyal, playful, affectionate best friend, Luffy is waiting to meet you. Story
Meet the Encanto Litter — our magical new Draft Picks! This beautiful little family came to Ruff Draft from one of our trusted rescue partners in Texas, after they were found under an abandoned house in San Antonio. They may have had a rough start, but they are safe now and we’re so excited to introduce them to their future forever teams. Mama Julieta is about 1.5 years old and believed to be a Carolina Dog mix. She is the absolute sweetest, housebroken and crate trained already. She arrived in rescue with eight puppies — five of them made their way to Ruff Draft and officially joined our roster as Draft Picks. The puppies were born 12/9/25 and include three girls (Isabella, Mirabel, and Pepa) and two boys (Antonio and Felix). Each pup has their own unique look — Pepa is especially striking with bold black-and-tan coloring, Isabella, Mirabel, and Felix sport classic shepherd-style coloring (with varying levels of fluff), and Antonio stands out with his beautiful white tricolor coat and resemblance to mom. We suspect there may be some shepherd in the mix, though they also look surprisingly similar to Chinook puppies though that's not as common of a breed. What we do know for sure: this whole crew is Game Day Ready. They’re super playful, active, social pups who are doing great with kids, cats, and other dogs. Whether you’re looking for a young teammate or a sweet mama ready for her own happily-ever-after, this family is ready to start their next chapter. Breed & Size Disclaimer: We make our best guess on breed based on coat type, size, muzzle shape, and other physical traits, but breed mix, adult size, and weight cannot be guaranteed. We always welcome friendly suggestions if you think something may be inaccurate!
