Story
Looking to rehome my 3 yr old black german shepard. She is spayed and update to date on her shots. She is amazing with kids and loves cats. With other dogs she is the alpha and will get aggressive towards them especially with food. I would suggest her being the only dog. With her being a shepard, she needs a lot of exercise and to keep busy. My husband and I work alot and unfortunately unable to give her the attention she needs. I would love to see her go to a home that will give her all the love and affection she needs.

Story
Age/Birthdate: 02/05/2022 • Current Weight: 76 lbs • Breed Guess: German Shepherd • Fully Vetted: Yes • Adoption fee: $0 fee has been sponsored by a generous donor! Location: Bolingbrook, IL Any Medical or Special Needs: None Temperament with: •Dogs: Yes, he LOVES other dogs •Cats: Yes, he LOVES cats •Children: No •Strangers: Good but will need slow introductions Training Needs: Crate Trained: Yes Potty Trained: Yes Reese is a HANDSOME Shepherd mix weighing in at a solid 76 pounds at just under 4 years old! Sadly, the first two years of Reese’s life were filled with abuse and disappointment. As a result, he was profoundly affected — constantly being in harm’s way was all he knew during his puppy years. Despite his rough start, Reese has shown incredible resilience and heart. He’s ready to leave his past behind and continue learning that not all people mean harm. Reese will need a patient and understanding family that will allow him the time he needs to decompress and warm up. His ideal home would be with a single woman or with a small family- Shepherd experience would help tremendously as an adopter will have to be willing to play the long game to earn his trust. Reese has come leaps and bounds from where he started and now has a wonderful bond with his foster mom, but he’ll need continued support during his transition to ensure he builds equally strong relationships with his new family! While he’s made amazing progress, Reese still needs a family who understands his past trauma and is dedicated to helping him continue to heal. In typical Shepherd fashion, earning his trust can take time, but once you have it, he’ll trust you with his life 1000%! Once you get past Reese’s tough-guy armor, you’ll discover what a true softie he is! Reese is the perfect mix of energy and couch potato. He LOVES playing with his fur friends in the backyard but also enjoys long snooze sessions on the couch. When relaxing, he’s happy to chew on a bone and watch TV — especially Hallmark movies! (He’ll even tolerate a football game or two for the guys, if he must!) While Reese’s trust issues stem from humans, no animals have ever done this boy wrong — he absolutely LOVES other animals! Whether it’s puppies, adult dogs, cats, or kittens, Reese has never met an animal he doesn’t adore! He’s been a foster brother to animals of all shapes, sizes, ages, temperaments, and energy levels, and has always been the gentle, dependable “big brother” they can look up to! True to his Shepherd nature, Reese is a caregiver — he can often be seen lovingly grooming his elderly foster sibling or keeping a watchful eye on his rambunctious foster kittens! If you already have other furbabies, Reese would be a wonderful addition! He has no food, toy, or water aggression and would integrates easily into a multi-pet home! Reese is also potty and crate trained! He knows the words “crate” and “place” as cues to go to his crate! Since he’s naturally curious, his foster mom crates him when she’s away — which he doesn’t mind at all, as he’ll happily nap until you return! If you’d rather take him along, that’s no problem either — Reese loves car rides and will gladly hop in the vehicle himself! He’s also great about keeping all four paws on the ground (which is great given his size)! Speaking of paws, he’s not the biggest fan of having his toes touched (but who is?), and he’s currently working on perfecting “heel” while walking! Reese is looking for a patient, German Shepherd–savvy adopter who will see past his initial walls and give him the time, structure, and love he needs to fully open up! With understanding and commitment, his future family will be rewarded with one of the most loyal, loving, and devoted companions imaginable! If you're interested in meeting handsome Reese, please fill out the application below! https://www.rubywhiskers.org/adopt If you’re someone who’s patient, understanding, and looking for a deeply loyal companion, I might be your perfect match. I’m ready for my forever home—somewhere I can finally feel safe, loved, and at peace. This dog is currently located in Chicago's southwest suburbs and can be seen by appointment once an adoption application is completed and approved by the rescue. Please note that we cannot hold dogs for any reason. If the dog or puppy is not yet fully vetted, we can only consider applications from adopters within an hour's drive or 40 miles of Lemont, IL, due to required vet visits at our partner veterinarians. For fully vetted dogs or puppies, we welcome applications from out-of-state or beyond the 40-mile radius. Please only apply if you are ready to meet and welcome a new companion into your home within five days of approval. Breed and Age Information: Unless the puppy was born in our care, we cannot guarantee the breed or age. Breed and age estimates are based on veterinary advice, shelter records, physical appearance, and information provided by previous owners. Adoption Fee: $0 The adoption fee includes: Spay/neuter (performed at one of our partner veterinarians as scheduled by the rescue) Microchip Rabies vaccine DHPP vaccine Bordetella vaccine 4DX test (Heartworm, Anaplasmosis, Ehrlichia, Lyme Disease) General wellness care, including deworming, heartworm prevention, and flea/tick prevention Your adoption fee also helps support medical care for other rescue animals, including heartworm treatments, surgeries, and emergency care. Spay/Neuter Policy: We spay/neuter dogs at 16 weeks or older, at the discretion of the rescue and in consultation with our partner veterinarians. While some veterinarians recommend delaying the procedure based on a breeds projected size, as a rescue, our primary goal is to prevent unwanted litters. Spaying and neutering also provide significant health benefits, including cancer prevention and reducing behavioral issues. The American Animal Hospital Association and the American Veterinary Medical Association support pediatric spay/neuter for cats and dogs as early as “16 weeks. We carefully assess each case to determine the best timing for the procedure. Interested in Adopting? Submit an adoption application at www.rubywhiskers.org/adopt

Story
Rex is a stunning 2-year-old German Shepherd with a loyal heart and an eager spirit. At 78 lbs, he’s the perfect size for adventure—and snuggles! This handsome boy is looking for a loving, active home where he can be part of the family and enjoy plenty of time with his people. Rex is great with kids and other dogs, and while we’re not sure how he is with cats just yet, his easy going temperament suggests he could adjust well with the right introduction. He thrives on connection and would do best in a home where he’s not left alone for long stretches—he truly wants to be your companion in life’s everyday moments. Whether it's going for walks, playing in the yard, or just relaxing nearby, Rex is happiest when he’s part of the action. If you’re looking for a loyal, smart, and affectionate pup to grow with your family, Rex could be your perfect match If you are interested in adopting/meeting this pup , please complete our online adoption application that you can find here: https://www.starfishanimalrescue.com/adopt/dog-adoption-application  . Story
Meet Sage! Sage is an absolutely beautiful German Shepherd pup, born at the end of May. He’s full of energy, curiosity, and puppy charm! Like most shepherds, Sage is both smart and active—he’ll thrive in a home that can give him plenty of exercise, playtime, and opportunities to learn. Because he’s still young and growing, we think Sage would do best with a family that has older kids who can keep up with his playful spirit and help with his training. Shepherds are quick learners, and Sage will blossom with consistent guidance, positive reinforcement, and lots of love. If you’re looking for a loyal, energetic companion to join you on adventures and cuddle up with afterward, Sage may be the perfect match. Could Sage be the newest member of your family?   If you are interested in adopting/meeting this pup , please complete our online adoption application that you can find here: https://www.starfishanimalrescue.com/adopt/dog-adoption-application  .
