Story
Meet Gem the 3.5yr Shepherd/Husky! Unfortunately, Gem has had a terrible past. She was a victim of horrific animal abuse and has been spending the past several months healing from her injuries and trauma. Months ago, she was picked up unresponsive, starved almost to death (25lbs), anemic and unable to stand or even lift her head. She was rushed to the emergency vet, where she stayed for over a week requiring tube feeding, blood transfusions and other vital care. After months of recovery, she is now almost back to her normal happy, goofy and sweet self. We are currently in a case with her abusive owner, and we hope to see her held accountable for what she did. This has been such a heartbreaking and unimaginable case. We can’t wait for Gem to get her happy ever after! Gem is a happy, energetic and playful girl. She adores meeting new doggy friends and does great with pups of all shapes and sizes. She has had limited interactions with cats, however with proper introductions we think she would do well. At times, she can struggle with meeting new people, but with some treats she becomes everyone’s friend. Due to her past, she is working through a lot of trauma and learning how to be a dog again. She is looking for an experienced and patient family who is willing to continue building her confidence and working on gaining her manners back. Her biggest weakness is food. She must be watched closely to ensure she does not eat anything she is not supposed to. When not being watched, we highly suggest her being crated for her own safety. Unfortunately, this is a common occurrence after a dog is starved. She has already made a lot of progress in this area but still needs more time to realize she will not be starved again and that these behaviors are not necessary or acceptable. Additionally, she has been working on her house training again. She has been doing great and has not had an accident in several weeks. We do suggest that she is taken out very frequently, to keep her on the right track. Lastly, Gem can struggle with separation anxiety at times and tends to bark when she can’t be a part of what’s going on. Due to this, we do not feel like she would be a great candidate for apartment living. Gem is up to date on vaccines, spayed, HW- and microchipped. She is crate trained and listens well to basic commands. Despite all of the things she is working on relearning, Gem has a heart of gold! She is such a loyal, resilient and energetic gal. She would love to join an energetic family who can show her the love and understanding she deserves.

Story
Jane's big brown eyes are everything! She is estimated to be about 8 months old and weighs 47 pounds right now. Meet Jane, a gorgeous bundle of potential! This sweet puppy is a gentle and affectionate soul who just needs a little guidance and confidence to blossom. Jane is a people-pleaser at heart and is always eager to follow your lead, just looking for direction. She loves nothing more than to be by your side, always wanting to be touching you, offering full-body wags and a loving presence. Jane is a little unsure of herself at times and needs a leader she can rely on when she is feeling scared. With her good nature and willingness to learn, Jane is the perfect pup for a family committed to helping her flourish and thrive. She does have some mild food bowl guarding though, so her new family will need to continue to work on her getting comfortable and feeling secure with people around her food bowl. Jane will need a home where any children are at least 13 years old. She can't wait for her forever family to find her! If there is another nice doggy sibling in the home, Jane would love to meet them. She has a loose, open approach with other dogs that moves into play. She likes to use her paws to engage, which is pretty cute! If you are interested in Jane and are at least 21 years old, please come to our kennel during business hours, make an appointment, or fill out an application at k9stray.com and an adoption counselor will be in touch. We look forward to helping you find your new best friend! *Please check your lease agreements for breed/weight restrictions prior to applying. We also do not do cat testing, so we do not know how a dog will do with cats. Not all dogs are available to go home on the same day you first meet.*

Story
Hi there, I’m Honey! Have you been dreaming of finding the most loyal, affectionate, loving, playful companion ever? If so, I'm the pup for you! I’m a silly, super-sweet pup who lives for belly rubs, ear scratches, and giving kisses. I’m also the kind of girl who loves being close—think little shadow status—following you from room to room and happily keeping you company through it all. If you’re looking for an adventure buddy, I’m your girl. I do amazing in the car and would love to be your co-pilot for outings, weekend drives, hikes, and little adventures—then come home and curl up right beside you for snuggles. I was rescued from a heartbreaking situation; before BFP saved me, I was living in an apartment building’s parking lot, tied up to a car 24/7. Despite going so long without the care and love I deserved, I’m still the sweetest angel pup around and truly just want to be loved. My biggest wish is to find a forever home that will cherish me for the rest of my life. If you’re looking for a loyal best friend who’s equal parts playful, cuddly, and devoted, I'm your perfect match! Could you be my furever family? 🐾💛 📍 My Location: LOS ANGELES, CA - but I can be transported ANYWHERE in the USA! Please note: Third-party sites like PetFinder or Adopt-a-Pet may sometimes list multiple locations for the same animal. My correct and current location is the one listed above! Beagle Freedom Project facilitates out-of-state adoptions, provided the adopter can travel to the animal’s current location for pickup. If you’re interested in adopting me, please fill out an adoption application at https://bfp.org/adopt/ For questions, email the Beagle Freedom Project team at: adopt@bfp.org About Beagle Freedom Project: Beagle Freedom Project is the world’s leading organization for rescuing and rehoming animals used in experimental research.
