Story
Shadow arrived at the shelter as a stray in November. Upon intake, she was thin, timid and uncertain around the staff. Following the completion of her stray hold, she was transported to Lake Geneva Animal Hospital for spaying. During this procedure, an echocardiogram (echo) was performed, revealing a ventricular septal defect (VSD), a congenital heart defect, specifically a `hole in the center of her heart` within the wall separating the lower ventricles. This diagnosis was understandably concerning. While life expectancy for dogs with VSDs can be variable, especially at her young age, Shadow`s defect is unfortunately quite significant. The primary hope is that if she can reach 1-2 years of age, her condition may stabilize. Therefore, it is crucial to monitor her closely regarding any future anesthesia procedures.Despite the initial challenges, Shadow has undergone a remarkable transformation within the shelter environment, blossoming into a more confident and outgoing dog. While she is not particularly fond of all other dogs, she has been working on branching out. Unfortunately she is not a fan of cats at all. Although she has made significant progress, Shadow is still learning to trust humans and is now taking positive steps.Ask about her today!Adoption Information-•9 months old•Spayed•Tested negative for Heartworm •Microchipped •Wormed•Fecal tested•Still needs some guidance Please remember dog meetings are by an appointment with an approved application. Story
Hawthorn was found as a skinny, neglected stray in Wisconsin and was never reclaimed. Hawthorn is a sweet and gentle boy who does well with other dogs and is cat friendly too. He would love to find a home where he can enjoy his golden years and receive the pampering he deserves. As an older fella he is getting all his senior care to keep him comfortable and happy! Interested in adoption? The first step is an application at paddyspaws.blogspot.com. Please do not apply if pets in the home are not up to date per our website requirements or are not altered. Our rescue adopts to Wisconsin and Illinois. Our requirements for Illinois applications are: excellent vet history, no children under 7 in the home, and an owned home. Wisconsin does not have these requirements, though we will not consider applications where pets are missing core veterinary care. Our process includes an approved application, reference checks, a homevisit, and once approved a meet and greet with the dog. Adoption fee is $250. Story
Hello, I`m Jaegger! I`m currently in a foster home with a wonderful dog trainer & foster mom. I do well with other dogs & I can also be good with cats when given appropriate guidance and structure. I have great recall, and while I`m still working on leash manners, overall I`m a very sweet boy who will easily melt someone’s heart. If you think I could be the right fit for you, please email shelter@greencountyhumane.org

Story
Hi, I`m Rosa! I was part of a seizure of 17 German Shepherds that GCHS assisted with. Due to my previous living situation I`m shy & get nervous of new people. My future family would need to be patient & understanding with my lack of socialization. I`ve never lived inside a home before so that would be a new experience. I need someone who is willing to go slow with me & not push me to meet people or do things that make me uncomfortable. Previous German Shepherd experience and/or experience with an under-socialized dog is preferred.
