Story
Burke - ID# 19633 - Kennel #47 - Arrived June 4th - German Shorthaired Pointer - Liver Ticked - Male - 12 Years 4 Months Old - 60 lbs - Neutered - Up to Date on Vaccines - Heartworm Negative
Burke is a twelve-year-old German Shorthaired Pointer with a classic liver and white ticked coat, warm amber eyes, and a face so full of grace and gentleness that it is impossible to look at him without feeling something. He arrived at Cobb Animal Services on June 4th after his owner of eight years moved somewhere that could not accommodate him - and just like that, at twelve years old, this dignified and devoted boy lost the only home he had ever known. There are few things sadder than a senior dog in a shelter, and Burke deserves better than this with every fiber of his being.
Burke is house trained, good with children, great on leash, and knows sit, stay, shake, and down - four commands that speak to a lifetime of being a good, willing companion. He is sweet and gentle and asks for very little. Burke does have a fatty tumor, which is very common in older dogs and in the vast majority of cases is entirely benign - something easily monitored by a vet at routine visits.
Burke thrives as the sole pet in a home, where he can have his people all to himself and settle into the quiet, devoted companionship that defines him.
There is a particular injustice in a twelve-year-old dog - well behaved, gentle, and full of love - sitting in a shelter kennel after eight years of loyalty. Burke did not choose this. He showed up every day for eight years and gave everything he had, and he deserves a soft and peaceful place to spend his remaining years surrounded by people who recognize what a treasure he is.
Adopting a senior dog like Burke is one of the most profound acts of kindness a person can offer. He is not asking for years of adventure - he is asking for warmth, gentleness, and someone to belong to. The person who brings Burke home will be repaid in quiet devotion and grateful companionship every single day. Come meet him in Kennel #47 - that wise, gentle face will stay with you long after you leave.
