You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. All of the animals posted on our site have been temperament tested. While not all are in the immediate area, once we have processed and approved your application, we will move the dog to our adoptive area for you to meet, greet and hopefully adopt. Sometimes we will have more than one application on a dog. That does not mean it automatically goes to another family but you should be aware of the fact that until you are approved and set up for the meet/greet.. the dog could get adopted by another applicant.NOTE- INDIGO IS LISTED AS A COURTESY FOR AN INDIVIDUAL ASKING TO REHOME THEIR PET.  PLEASE SEE CONTACT INFO BELOW. Indigo is a big-hearted sweetheart with an incredibly loving and gentle soul. She is affectionate, eager to please, and thrives on human connection. With kids, she is especially joyful—she loves greeting them and often shows her excitement with wagging tails, happy body language, and sweet kisses. She grew up around kids and absolutely adores them. Her playful spirit really shines when she’s outside, where she adores running around the yard, chasing balls, and proudly carrying sticks like little treasures. In fact, she does the cutest “gazelle” hops just from pure excitement!  With adults, Indigo does best with slow, calm introductions, though she is certainly curious of new people. New situations and unfamiliar people can sometimes feel overwhelming for her at first, but once she has time to settle in and build trust, she forms deep, loyal bonds and becomes an incredibly devoted companion. She is extremely motivated, responsive, and genuinely wants to make her people happy. Indigo does well greeting other dogs in public settings, though she also needs slow and controlled introductions as well. She would thrive best as the only dog in a household. She enjoys being the center of attention and benefits from having consistent affection and one-on-one time, which allows her to feel secure and confident in her environment. Overall, Indigo is a loving, playful, and loyal dog who has so much affection to give. With patience, understanding, and a calm home, she will reward her future fur-ever family with endless love, joy, and companionship. Indigo Is located in Springfield, VA.  IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN ADOPTING INDIGO, PLEASE CONTACT:Valerie Thach Email: valerie.gthach@gmail.comVisit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.January 4, 2026, 11:52 am

Story
Margo is the kind of dog who stops people in their tracks—beautiful, soft, soulful, and radiating that unmistakable Golden Retriever sweetness. She came from a backyard breeder as an 8-week-old puppy, advertised as a Goldendoodle, but as she grew, it became clear that her heart and her heritage lean almost entirely Golden. Born on 2/7/23 and now weighing about 50 pounds, she has matured into a graceful, gentle young girl who wants nothing more than to be loved. Her original family adored her and provided her with a safe, caring home, but unexpected personal challenges arose—difficult ones that prevented them from giving her the consistency, time, and attention she truly deserved. They made the painful, selfless decision to ask for help in finding her a new family, wanting Margo to live her best possible life. And what a gift this girl will be to her new home. Margo is sweetness personified. She is friendly with every dog she meets, respectful and calm around cats, and gentle enough to be trusted with young children. She needs to be in a home of no small dogs - she thinks they are playthings. Her temperament is exactly what people love about Golden Retrievers—steady, affectionate, intuitive, and endlessly kind. She greets new people with a soft smile and happy tail as if welcoming them into her world. Margo is still young and doesn’t have many commands under her belt, but she is a blank slate in the best possible way. She watches her people carefully, eager to understand what’s expected of her, and she responds beautifully to gentle guidance. With patience and routine, she will blossom into a perfectly mannered companion. A fenced yard would be ideal for her—she loves the freedom to run, sniff, and stretch those young, energetic legs. She hasn’t had nearly enough opportunities for outdoor play or structured exercise, so a family who values activity and time outside will help her thrive. After playtime, she’ll settle in beside you with that soft Golden warmth that makes every house feel more like home. Margo is the whole package: beauty, personality, intelligence, and a heart full of love. She is ready for the stability of a forever home where she won’t have to transition again—a place where she can grow up, bond deeply, and be cherished every day. If you’ve been dreaming of a young Golden mix with all the emotional intelligence and gentle spirit the breed is famous for, Margo could truly be your once-in-a-lifetime dog. She is hoping to find her new family just in time for the holiday season. To apply for this beautiful girl, emailccrnewengladn@gmail.com. Story
Hello there, I'm Lucy, the most curious canine you'll ever meet. My curiosity got me here, actually. I was once in a grocery store, just sniffing around. I saw a sausage stand and thought, 'Aha, free lunch!' But, the sausages were tied to a string. I pulled one, and the whole stand came crashing down! Amidst the chaos, a kind soul brought me to this shelter. I've learned my lesson, I promise. No more sausage heists for me. I'm all about belly rubs and fetch now. So, how about it? Ready to add a little Lucy-love to your life?

Story
Ahoy! I’m Skipper, a handsome seven-year-old pup with a heart full of love and loyalty. Don’t let my age fool you—I still have plenty of energy to chase my toys and enjoy a good game of fetch. But when playtime is over, I’m more than happy to transform into the ultimate couch potato and keep you company for a cozy movie night.I think I’m a big lap dog (and honestly, I’m pretty good at it!). I’m sweet, laid-back, and always ready to shower you with affection. Give me a little time to get comfortable, and you`ll see just how wonderful and loving I am. Recently, I went on a field trip to an office, and guess what? I was an amazing companion! I made new friends, enjoyed tasty treats, and relaxed like a pro. I’m the perfect mix of playful and easygoing—ready to fit right into your life.If you’re looking for a playful and devoted friend who will stick by your side through thick and thin, I’m your guy. Come meet me and see why I’m the perfect mix of fun and relaxation!Interested in adopting me? I am in a foster home so things need to be done a little differently. We recommend submitting a general online adoption application and then calling the shelter to let them know you are interested in meeting me! Please note: all applications are considered general until the animal has been met. If you have any questions, please contact animalcenter@bmorehumane.org or 410-833-8848 Ext/Opt 2.

Story
Lincoln is a sweet boy that seems eager to please. He is very strong and is still learning to not pull on the leash. He loves his walks and gets very excited once he sees his collar and leash. He is limited to easy, short walks as he is heartworm positive. Shortly after Lincoln arrived to his foster home, he seemed lethargic and wasn’t eating much. He did go to the ER to rule out anything serious. He spent the night and perked up a bit after IV fluids. He was still not eating well and would vomit almost daily so he saw our local vet. He had additional x-rays and bloodwork and was still a bit of a mystery. He was on a bland diet of only boiled turkey, eating frequent small meals throughout the day as anything else, or larger quantities caused him to vomit. The vet decided to do an endoscopy 12/23 to see if that would provide answers. It did! The scope showed large amounts of Helicobacter (H.pylori) throughout his stomach and biopsies were also done. He is currently on his third week of treatment with Pepcid AC and 2 antibiotics to help treat that. So far, so good! He is finally eating normal sized portions of turkey. The vet feels it may stem from allergies as there are certain proteins he will not even touch (salmon, whitefish) and others that have caused him to vomit (lamb, beef). Currently his foster prepares his meals fresh with ground turkey as we attempt to heal his gut and continue in the right direction. Lincoln is looking for a special home that will continue to help him thrive. He most likely will require to continue eating in this manner (a gently cooked or raw diet) as it is working. He also has a strong prey drive and is still double leashed on walks and in the foster’s yard. He fixates on the squirrels, deer, foxes, and wild turkeys. He does not bark and moves quickly and stealthily when he notices them. He is a great dog and very affectionate. He does not know the concept of personal space. He still needs additional training which the foster can start working on, now that he is finally feeling better. It will help determine what will be the best environment and lifestyle for Lincoln.
