Story
Buddy — or Sweet Pea, as he’s gotten used to being called — is an absolute darling. He’s a sweet old man, goofy goober, and the very stereotype of a Golden with maybe one… possibly two brain cells firing on a good day. He loves to play (he’s still mastering anything beyond chewing tennis balls), enjoys long walks, runs, and especially playing in the snow. But more than anything, Buddy just wants to love you and be with you always. He enjoys being active but is just as happy with a cozy day in. Buddy adores cuddling with his humans and truly believes he’s a lap dog — even at 85 pounds. Don’t worry about forgetting cuddle time… he’ll happily remind you if you’re slacking.Buddy’s ideal home would be with someone who works from home at least a few days a week and can devote time and energy to helping him feel comfortable being alone, reinforcing basic commands, and polishing his walking manners. He currently walks fairly well on a gentle leader but could use continued practice. He’s highly food-motivated (and on a weight-loss journey), so using kibble for training works well. He needs regular exercise, someone patient enough to teach him how to play, and a family who embraces his inner lap dog — including inviting him up on the furniture for snuggles now and then. Fair warning: he’ll need steps or a helping hand to get up there.Overall, Buddy’s needs are pretty minimal. He has mild arthritis but no major behavioral or symptomatic health issues. He’s shown interest in rabbits and squirrels on walks, so he’ll need to stay leashed when not in a fenced area. He’s house-trained, good with cats, does well with older kids (not tested with younger), and seems friendly with the dogs he’s met. He’s not a food beggar — though he has been caught giving the side-eye to nearby mac and cheese. As for preferences, Buddy would love a yard to zoom around in, especially during the winter months. He hopes for a family who takes him along whenever possible — whether it’s errands to The Home Depot or just car rides together. He’d enjoy relaxed outdoor hikes with plenty of sniff breaks and would love a home with another animal sibling, as he spent the last nine years happily sharing life with a sister. If you’re looking for a sweet old man to join your family, look no further. Buddy’s motto is “Better late than never”… and also, “If I fits, I sits.” Bring this lovable love bug home and start building lifelong memories together today.
