Story
Tough times often result in heartbreaking stories. Canela, the 4-year-old Great Dane/Mixed Breed girl has a sad tale to tell as she seeks a happy ending with a forever home and family with room in their hearts and home for this gentle giant. Her owner surrendered her after her family lost their home and were reduced to living in a car. Knowing that was no place for such a regal girl, her owner surrendered her to give her a new start in life. Canela is a very large dog (101 pounds) who thinks she is a tiny canine as she loves tiny toys, blankets and getting tucked in all warm and cozy. Canela is comfortable with other dogs although she does not seek much playtime with them as she, like most Great Danes, tires a bit easily and prefers to relax. She is also comfortable with children. It is not known if she is comfortable with cats.Canela is working at her house and leash training. She is a big but gentle soul so positive gentle lessons with a strong firm hand will help her master her manners. Rescue dogs can have accidents as they settle into new surroundings. If crate training is planned, Canela requires a very large crate so she can stand up, turn around and lie down. It will take a special home and family with room in their house and in their hearts to welcome such a big girl, but Canela will return huge rewards in affection and gratitude for showing her that she belongs.*When considering adoption, keep in mind that dogs thrive on structure and routine. They adjust much better when their owners are committed to providing consistency and stability. The adoption fee for Canela is $500. That includes the cost of spaying/neutering, up to date vaccinations, foster care, rescue, and transport fees. To get the ball rolling, head over to our Adoption Application and submit your application today. A Dog Star representative will contact you within 24 hours. To help speed up the process, contact your vet and give them permission to speak with us.If you do not get a response within 24 hours, check your spam folder.April 28, 2025, 7:03 am

Story
URGENT: Astro Needs a Home More to come soon, but this sweet boy can’t wait. Astro is a 3-year-old Great Dane/Labrador Retriever mix who’s lost everything when his owner lost their job and home. Astro was surrendered to the shelter, heartbroken and completely shut down. He was raised from puppyhood, grew up with kids and other dogs, and doesn’t understand why he’s suddenly alone. Astro should weigh around 100 lbs, but he’s currently underweight. He loves to run, adores blueberries and sweet potatoes, and still has so much love to give. Please consider giving him the safe, loving home he deserves or share his story if you know someone who can. He needs us now more than ever!

PLEASE NOTE! Unless stated otherwise, our dogs and puppies are located in Arkansas, and transported to the north/northeast once adopted. We do occasionally have dogs/puppies placed in foster homes in the north/northeast. In the cases where the pet is somewhere other than Arkansas, it will be noted beside the name of the pet.Meet Natasha! Tasha is a purebred great Dane. She is 10 months old and already a very tall girl. Tasha was purchased from a breeder and then spent most of her life outside on a tie out. The original owner knew this wasn’t the best life for such a sweet girl so she reached out for our help. Tasha came to the rescue very thin, but she is gaining weight and getting taller each day. She is a very sweet dog who plays well with other dogs and is respectful of cats (Although still very curious. One day she will figure out what they are). She is potty trained. No accidents in the house or her crate. Tasha is crated overnight and whenever her foster leaves the house. She is smart enough to hold out for treats, but will very willingly go lay down in her crate if she knows that she will be getting a treat. She has the most adorable habit of bringing her blanket and her favorite stuffed animal out from her crate to the living room every day. Tasha is a smart dog. She understands what no means, but cannot believe that anyone would have the audacity to tell her no. She throws her head back in surprise and looks shocked whenever she is told no. Tasha also knows “sit.” Shes started to sit for meals, treats, pets, to go outside, and when she wants to come back inside. She’s figured out that she needs to sit to get the good stuff, so she sits nicely when she thinks it’ll get her what she wants. Tasha walks well on a leash, and loves going for walks. Be prepared to make new friends, because everyone that sees her out walking wants to stop and say hi. She can be a little timid at times, but is learning that nothing is really that scary. Tasha is also learning how big she is, so sitting on people’s laps is not ok but cuddling is pretty great. She has that spot on her belly that if you scratch just right, her leg will kick every time. Big girl is a great dog who deserves a wonderful life. She will be the perfect addition to your family.Located in Arkansas, but transport is available.
