APPLY FOR NYX We would like you to meet Nyx!  Nyx is a 1 year old Great Dane that found herself at a local animal control shelter after she was believed to be abandoned at a park. She was found standing there, waiting for her humans to come back, but they never did, and they didn’t come get her out of the shelter either, so ASTDR did! Nyx is the total package! She is as sweet as they come and is very true to her breed when it comes to being a Velcro pup. Despite how she was found, we can tell someone loved her at some point. She is house broken, crate trained, know most of her basic commands as well. Nyx loves toys particularly balls and if you won’t throw it for her, she will throw it for herself! Nyx is good with other dogs, ignores cats and even ignored some birds she met at her time in the shelter! She should be with kids that are stable on their feet as she is a big girl and could unintentionally knock a toddler down. PLEASE NOTE! Unless stated otherwise, our dogs and puppies are located in Arkansas, and transported to the north/northeast once adopted. We do occasionally have dogs/puppies placed in foster homes in the north/northeast. Waylon is a 2 yr old Great Dane who came into rescue after he was found as a stray. He was in horrific shape and barely survived the level of starvation he endured. But he did survive and he is thriving now! Waylon is still slowly gaining weight, and has almost reached his ideal weight. He is VERY tall. He is so sweet and loving. He want to sit in your lap and cuddle with you, as if he is a 10lb lap dog rather than 120 lb Dane. While in his foster home, he has done well with most other dogs, but it is very structured and his time with other dogs is limited. He does seem to have a jealoys streak and is possessive of his people. He does great in a doggy daycare setting and has spent lots of time in daycare, doing very well with most dogs there. I think this is a lot different than how he will behave in a home setting with other dogs sharing his humans attention. For this reason, we would love to see him adopted into a home where he can be the only dog. He is not a candidate for a home with young kids. He is just too big and clumsy, and he really wants all the attention. I feel the he may become jealous of little kids and view them as competition. We just really want to set him up for success. He's been through enough in his short life amd we want it to be easy from here on our. Waylon holds a very special place in my heart. Hes been in my home through it all- recovering from starvation, happy tail and subsequent tail amputation, heartworm treatment. The odds were stacked against him, but he made it and now he's ready to find his own home. Waylon is located in Alexander, AR. We would prefer a local adopter, within driving distance. I think that transport would be really hard on him. This cutie is Heath Bar. He is currently 3 months old and weighs approximately 17 pounds. We think they may be a Great Dane/ German Shepherd mix*, but with rescue it’s a guess! What matters most is that they are adorable and are one the MOST desperate in the entire US based on statistics for where this puppy is from. Shelters in this area are having to euthanize puppies. Meet Fitz the sweetest, softest-hearted gentle giant you’ll ever come across. He has a calm, soulful presence that instantly makes you want to wrap him up in a hug. Everything about him is gentle.Fitz is truly one of a kind. Fitz is a naturally shy boy but he handles the world with so much softness. When something startles him, he doesn’t bark or react,he simply steps back and observes until he feels safe. It’s impossible not to fall in love with how tender and careful he is. It’s the only time we saw him loosen up, wag his tail, and even try to play. Watching this huge, gentle boy try to play with a kid is honestly one of the cutest things ever. Because he’s such a big guy, he’d do best with older kids who won’t get knocked over by his excitement. And treats? Oh, Fitz is obsessed. He loves treats so much he’ll do absolutely anything for one. Even then, he takes them with the softest nibble. He’s unbelievably gentle. Fitz is estimated to be around three years old and weighs about 112 pounds, all legs and love. He has the most gorgeous long “model legs” and carries himself with this graceful way of moving. At home, he’s a total comfort lover. Fitz could sunbathe for hours.And when he’s not soaking up the sunshine, he loves curling up in bed with his people, cuddled in close, happy just to be near you. He truly melts into blankets and snuggles like he was made for cozy days. Despite his size, Fitz is not a high-energy dog at all. He’d enjoy having a big yard simply for the space, but he’d also do perfectly fine in an apartment as long as his family keeps a calm environment and includes him in their daily routines. If you’ve ever loved a big dog - a really big dog - you know the kind of presence they carry. Baloo is that dog. He is a companion that fills the room with his goofy charm and regal frame but it will he his silly, goofy side that will be what fills your heart. He is affectionate, playful, and loves to engage, but he is no lap dog. He understands his size and loves people who understand dogs his size. This boy needs structure, your confidence, and someone who can manage all 82 pounds of his enthusiasm when he’s excited. He has great basic leash skills and walks with purpose, and while it’s not common, he can still pull hard when he is eager to meet or greet. Because of that, Baloo is looking for a home with no small children and no physically limited handlers -not because he isn’t loving, but because he’s simply a whole lot of dog. He gets along well with other dogs who enjoy and can match his play style. He’s the “roughhousing in the yard” kind of guy -playful and physical, and so much fun to watch. When dogs are confident and enjoy that same type of play, he thrives. Baloo has made some wonderful dog friends who he plays beautifully with.
