Handsome Adak, pronounced “ay-dack,” was named after an island in Alaska. Adak was a stray at a shelter that no one claimed. A happy boy that loves attention from his people, Adak will come over to you just to be petted. And if you sit or lie down on the floor he will be right next to you. He is a little reserved when first meeting a new person, but once you’re in his pack, he will be your best friend. Adak is a smart boy who knows some basic commands. This may have something to do with being very treat motivated. He is also a counter surfer so keep your counters clean! An energetic boy, Adak requires 1-2 daily walks; and he enjoys patrolling the backyard at his foster home. Adak also takes time out for a good nap. He enjoys the companionship of other dogs and would be very happy to have a female playmate in his furever home that matches his energy. He does fine with dog friendly cats. Adak is crate trained and rides great in the car. He walks pretty well on a leash until he sees something he wants to go see and then he pulls some in excitement. We think Adak is a Maremma Sheepdog, a livestock guardian breed similar to a Great Pyrenees. At 2.5 years old, he weighs about 90 lbs. He is neutered, up to date on core vaccines and up to date on heartworm and flea/tick preventatives. Adoption Requirements *A minimum 5 ft fence *A home visit *Children in the home should be 12+ *A vet check with at least a two year vet history Adopters can be located in Missouri and surrounding states: Kansas, Arkansas, Nebraska, Iowa, and Illinois. Maui came from a litter of eight puppies that we rescued from an owner who had an oops litter and could not find homes for all the pups. Maui is a cuddle bug. She is playful & sweet and is great with kids and other dogs. Maui knows where all the AC vents are in the house and will find one when ready for a nap. Maui is doing well with potty training and loves lick mats, bully chews, and playing with cardboard boxes. 3 months old, Maui weighs 25-30 lbs and is up to date on puppy shots and up to date on heartworm and flea/tick preventatives. She will be adopted on a spay/neuter contract with adopter promising to spay/neuter at a later date and must show vet records at that time. Maui is being fostered in the Omaha, NE area. Howie is the last of his siblings still available for adoption. Howie is part of the West Plains, MO litter that we rescued in March. They were abandoned outside when their owner passed away. Howie is growing up in rescue. He is really ready for a family of his own! Howie is a very sweet, affectionate and attentive dog. He bonds easily to the people around him. Watch out for his big Pyr paw when he wants attention! Howie loves to play with both people, cats, and other dogs. He is affectionate with the cats and curious and respectful of the parakeet in his foster home. Howie can also play on his own and is crate trained or can be gated off in a room when you’re not home. Howie particularly likes ice cubes, chew toys, and soft toys. At 9 months old, Howie is already a big boy so it's hard to remember that he's still a puppy. He doesn't quite always know what his body is doing; coordination is still developing! A typical Pyrenees, Howie will alert you when he hears deliveries or comings and goings outside. Howie is 100% potty trained and walks pretty well on a leash. Howie weighs about 80 lbs. He is up to date on core vaccines, microchipped and up to date on heartworm and flea/tick preventatives. Howie will be adopted on a spay/neuter contract with adopter promising to neuter at a later date and must provide vet records at that time. Howie is being fostered in Columbia, MO. We rescued Sammy from an owner who had too many dogs and according to her county law enforcement needed to rehome some of them. In addition Sammy was in danger of being shot by a neighbor when he roamed. 2.5-3 year old Sammy is a total love bug! He is the sweetest, gentlest boy. He loves to receive attention and get treats. He is very loving and tolerant of the cats in his foster home. Sammy is playful with other dogs and loves balls. On the smaller side for a male, Sammy weighs about 80 lbs. He has a shortened tail, possibly missing about 1/3. The vet thinks it was intentionally removed for some reason before he came to us. Sammy needs to be neutered before he can officially be adopted. He is so sweet, silly and smart. Kai sits on command and also sits calmly waiting on whatever you are doing. He doesn’t jump up on you while waiting. He will also sit by the door when he wants to go outside. If you make eye contact with Kai, he immediately comes to you for lovings. And if you wave at him, he immediately tail wags. Kai likes kids and does great with other dogs. He’s doing well with potty training and he sleeps in an Xpen at night. 3 month old Kai weighs 26 lbs and is up to date on puppy shots, up to date on heartworm prevention, and microchipped. He will be adopted on a spay/neuter contract with adopter promising to spay/neuter at a later date and must show vet records at that time.
