Breed: Havanese Age: 5 Weight: 13 Lbs Good With Dogs: yes Good With Cats: Unknown Good With Kids: unknown Energy Level: medium Potty-Training: In process Special Needs: puppy mill rescue Requirements: > Secure fenced yard > Another small dog in the home > Experienced adopter Meet Abby! Abby was rescued from a puppy mill back in January. We were told she is a Havanese and is approximately 5 years old. This cute girl has been in foster care for almost 2 months now and has really made some great progress! Abby quickly became very attached to her primary foster parent and follows her everywhere. She can be a bit shy but as soon as you sit on the couch or bed she jumps right up and snuggles in. When anyone but her foster mom is walking around she stays right out of the way and watches the goings on from the doorway. We think she may just be a little frightened of people when they’re standing and nervous of strangers in general. She absolutely loves toys! She throws the ball to herself and chases it around the room. She’s still too nervous to play with a person but we’re convinced she’ll continue to gain confidence and will be a super fun and playful companion! She loves sitting outside on a warm day, soaking up some rays. She is not great at leash walking just yet so she’ll need a home with a fenced (at least 4 ft high because she’s very athletic) yard. Another requirement we have for our puppy mill rescues is another dog in the home for her to continue to learn from and lean on for comfort. An active dog would be preferable because she loves to play with other small dogs. If you’re looking to bring home a new family member—especially a little lovebug with some healthy attachment issues—apply for Abby! This dog is currently being fostered near Rochester, NY and cannot travel prior to adoption. Meet and greets available in the surrounding area only. Visitors welcome. PLEASE NOTE: Unless otherwise written, all of our puppy mill survivors will require a secure fenced yard, another small dog in the home, and an experienced owner. Dogs rescued from puppy mills will have started to learn but cannot be expected to be fully potty trained at time of adoption. PLEASE READ ALL OF THE INFORMATION BELOW! We currently adopt in the states of PA*, NJ, NY**, DE, and some areas of MD. We can not accept applications from other states at this time. *Eastern half **Excluding NYC, Bronx, Long Island If you are interested in adopting this dog, please fill out our adoption application which you can find on our website at www.dutchcountryanimalrescue.org/adopt.html We will reply within one week if your application meets the criteria for this dog. Our adoption fees are on our application. All of our rescues are spayed/neutered, up to date on rabies and DHPP, heartworm tested, treated for worms and fleas and most are microchipped. We are not a shelter, we are 100% volunteer public charity. All of our dogs are in foster homes until they are adopted. Since we are not a shelter, we do not receive government funding. We are a public charity that relies solely on funds through our adoption fee, fundraisers, and private donations. Since we are 100% volunteer based, all funds collected go directly towards the rescue and vet costs of our dogs. We take each rescue personally and spend a lot of effort trying to match the right dog to the right family. Thank you for considering one of our rescued dogs.

Story
Zuri Meet beautiful Zuri - a 13 pound black beauty. Zuri is approximately 3 years old and a mix of havanese and poodle, a havapoo. Her looks favor that of a poodle. She was a matted mess when released from the commercial breeder but our partner, Who’s Walking Who, immediately fit her in for a complimentary spa day revealing a gorgeous rich black curly coat and playful, soulful eyes. When she’s excited to play, she jumps and prances around, looking like the legendary Black Beauty 🐎😍 Zuri enjoys the company of her foster fur brothers and sisters. She will need a confident resident dog in her forever home to continue to show her the ropes of being a well-loved family member. She is just learning what toys are and she likes them 🤗 She is crate trained, sleeping in her crate at night and during the day when foster mom needs to leave the house. Zuri startles at loud noises and quick movements and so she would prefer a home with older children or an adult-only home. Prior rescue experience would be so helpful to understand the journey of a dog used as a breeder to the life of a pampered pet 💗 Zuri is working on house training. She has the benefit of a fenced yard in her foster home and due to her being skittish, a fenced yard is required. She has quickly learned to follow the lead of her foster fur siblings, running in and out of the house. She is a smart, beautiful girl who just needs someone to be patient with her as she navigates this new world of freedom. Zuri has been spayed and is microchipped and up to date on vaccines and preventatives. She also had a dental when she was spayed. She is being fostered in the Collegeville, Montgomery County area and her adopters should be prepared to travel there for her adoption. A home visit and meet and greet with resident pets is part of the application process. If you think you can give this beauty the home she needs, apply here >>> zoeshouserescue.com Kennel license #9117 Reading, PA 19608
