Story
We have a transport where we will be personally taking our dogs to their new home leaving by January 9th 2026 (could be sooner!) to the east coast from where we are located here in Southern California. Surrounding states will be added to our route as needed ☺️ We would love to add Abbie to our trip for the right home/home! As always for our adopters peace of mind we never ask for anything up front! Her adoption fee, along with her adopting families share of travel costs will be due the day we arrive in person with Abbie ultimately finalizing her adoption. Meet Abbie 💗 Abbie is the kind of little dog who slips into your life with a softness that feels like she was always meant to be there. She has the sweetest, most serene temperament—gentle, loving, and incredibly attentive to her person. At just over 8 lbs with a straight, hypoallergenic Havanese-Poodle mix coat, she’s a delicate, elegant little companion who loves with her whole heart in the quietest, most comforting ways. She doesn’t need grand gestures or constant activity; she simply wants to belong, to be held, to be near, and to be someone’s steady little shadow throughout the day. She came to us from an older gentleman in a wheelchair who adored his dogs dearly but could no longer physically care for them. His love for them was clear, and making the choice to surrender them was an act of true devotion—putting their futures first. Although the dogs in his home knew one another, their bond was truly with him, not with each other, so it became very clear that finding individual families for each of them was the right next step. Abbie has taken that transition with so much grace. She trusts easily, she loves openly, and she holds no hesitation in her heart. Abbie is wonderfully behaved and exceptionally easy to live with. She is house trained and on a consistent 3–4 hour outdoor potty routine. She sleeps peacefully in her crate at night, though she would happily curl up beside your bed or in it if you prefer—she is very adaptable and thrives in routine and closeness. She’s not a barker, but she will softly alert you to unfamiliar noises in a way that feels helpful rather than reactive. She loves other dogs and cats and blends in with any home dynamic beautifully, though her true happiness comes from being with her person. She has a playful side that comes out in the yard during sunbathing sessions, but even then, it’s gentle and joyful, never chaotic or overwhelming. Abbie enjoys grooming and adores being pampered—she stands calmly and loves every bit of the attention. She is wonderful on road trips, happiest resting in your lap, which is why we recommend a booster seat for safe travel when she can’t be held by someone other than the driver. Her manners in the home are impeccable; she is calm, respectful, and content simply being near you. Her adoption fee is on our website at the bottom of her adoption listing at https://www.breadoflifek9refuge.org/post/abbie-1 She is fully vetted—spayed, microchipped, current on vaccines, and has had a full dental cleaning with necessary extractions, along with a complete exam by our veterinarian. Her adoption fee helps cover her medical care, dental extractions, microchip, months of care with us, her grooming needs, and the training and structure we’ve provided to prepare her for this next chapter. Note: Abbie will need to be on a soft food diet for now as sadly almost all of her teeth had to be removed. (She has 6 teeth left, two of which are her bottom k9's so no, her tounge isn't hanging out (it's a question we get a lot!!) She is as beautiful and perfect as ever, just with less teeth 🙃 Abbie is ready for someone who wants a loving, peaceful, deeply devoted companion. If you’re looking for a soft little soul who will give you her entire heart without hesitation, she may be your perfect match.

Story
Vader is a great dog who needs someone who will give him affection and love. His original owner was my cousin who was battling breast cancer when she adopted him. Due to her illness Vader was being pad trained and not house broken. I brought him home with me when she could no longer care for him. I have tried to crate train and house train him I have not been successful. Hopefully I can find him a loving home with someone who has the time and patience to do so.

Story
I wanted a companion for my Yorkie, so I decided to adopt another dog. After visiting several shelters, I chose to adopt Chewy from Shake A Paw in Union, NJ I was told he had been returned because he supposedly bit someone, but he has never bitten anyone in my family. He has been around children and strangers with no issues. Chewy does bark at people at first, but once you start petting him, he never wants you to stop. He is, however, very jealous of any dog that receives my attention. If I’m giving attention to my Yorkie, he may try to jump on top of her, bark, growl, and he will jump up on me if I’m holding her. I am afraid he will eventually hurt her. When he is being held and petted himself, he is completely content. Chewy would do best as the only dog in the home. He loves attention, enjoys playing fetch, and adores his toys. With someone who has time and affection just for him, he is truly a little ray of sunshine.
