Story
Shag is a Havanese/Miniature Poodle puppy and quite possibly one of the cutest little guys you’ll ever meet. He’s confident, playful, and full of personality, always ready to grab a toy and join in on whatever’s going on around him. He does great with other dogs and enjoys being part of the pack, but he also loves his people just as much. Shag is very friendly with both adults and kids, though he prefers to come to you on his own terms rather than being picked up right away. Once he’s in your arms, though, he melts—snuggling in and falling asleep in no time. Shag has a great appetite (unless you’re trying to sneak in his medicine—he somehow always figures that one out!) and is very food motivated, which will be helpful as he continues learning. He’s making progress with potty training and is becoming more consistent with using pee pads, though like most puppies, he’ll benefit from continued structure and attention. He hasn’t quite mastered going potty outside yet. He’s got that classic puppy rhythm—play hard, nap hard—and you’ll often find him dozing off after a good play session. At night, Shag sleeps in a crate with a blanket over it and is doing well with the routine. He and his puppy mate may stir occasionally, but they settle back in and understand it’s time to sleep. He’s also able to hold his pee overnight. Shag is a sweet, social little pup who loves to keep up with both his humans and his dog friends. With his playful spirit, affectionate nature, and growing confidence, he’s going to make a wonderful addition to a lucky family ready to continue guiding him as he grows. -----

A Quick but Important Note to All Adopters:
Please remember that none of our dogs arrive fully trained. Most come from tough or uncertain beginnings and may have never lived in a home or known basic routines. That means:

✧ They are not potty trained on arrival. Most dogs regress in potty training when moving to a new environment.

✧ They may lack basic manners (like leash walking or appropriate chewing).

✧ They’re learning, growing, and doing their best—but they will need patience, structure, and compassion to succeed.

The majority of these pups have lived in the confinement of a cage or kennel run for most - if not all - of their lives. Because of this, we strongly discourage the use of crates for anything other than vehicle transport. They deserve the chance to decompress and learn what true freedom and comfort feel like.

Our amazing foster homes work hard to start these dogs on the right path, but they are rescues, not finished products. These dogs need time, consistency, and a loving home willing to meet them where they are.

Also, breed designations are our best guesses based on appearance and behavior. We can't guarantee breed, size, adult weight, or coat type.

Story
Marnie is a recent mom who is now looking for that special forever home. She is a cautious girl who needs a little time to decide to engage with you. She must have a fenced yard, as she will not go to the bathroom while on a leash. We believe she may have suffered past trauma related to leashes, so walking on one is not currently an activity she can do. Marnie has perfect house manners and plays well with all her toys. She also gets along well with small dogs, though she has not yet been around big dogs or children under 10 years of age. She is a loving little dog who wants nothing more than to sit by your side and have you stroke her head for as long as you are willing. She loves being with her person but is not a shadow dog. She rides well in the car and is okay being left alone for short periods of time while she is fine with cats. (An adoption fee of $500 is required.) If you are interested in this dog, please go to the Adopt page of our website where you will find a link to an adoption application form. https://www.chewdogrescue.org/adopt If you have previously submitted an application form to CHEW, there is no need to reapply. Just let us know you're interested in this dog. We do our best to match families and dogs so everyone is pleased and the placement is permanent. We reserve the right to refuse an applicant if the home situation is incompatible with the needs of the rescue dog. Rescue is about doing our best for the dog. We do home and reference checks. All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and are up to date with current vaccinations before being placed in their forever homes.
