Story

Max is an approximately 2-year-old, neutered male. He weighs in at 40 pounds and is long and tall. Max loves to cuddle and give kisses. He’s a family-friendly pet who loves to be the center of attention. He enjoys long walks and playing with his toys. Max is a dog who enjoys the company of and playing with other dogs. He would also be okay with being the only dog of the house, provided he gets lots of love and attention. While being in his foster family’s care, he has learned basic commands, learned how to go potty outside as well as on pads, but is still a little rough around the edges. He could easily be trained to use a doggie door. He has lots of energy and is still working on eliminating his desire to jump on humans. He is very treat and attention motivated and is easy to train overall, he just needs consistent and firm reinforcement. His foster family includes toddlers and older children, both of which he does well with. Max is a dog requiring supervision if he’s around smaller children. Although very friendly, he sometimes forgets his size when playing with toys and young children. His favorite game to play with other dogs and humans alike is, “tug of war,” and he is quite good at it! Max is a fun-loving, empathetic, and cheeky younger dog, with many years left to love and play. He requires a person or family with lots of love to give, time for walks, and firm & positive training reinforcements. As long as he’s exercised, he can be left alone during the day for his person/family to work and return home. In his foster family, he has been left alone with his other dog friends for the duration of a workday. As long as he has his walk, or has friends to play with, he is a happy camper.

Niles is back with his brother Frasier and the rest of my little "pack." It's difficult to keep track of everything a puppy puts in its mouth, and with it being walnut season the local squirrels are leaving lots of detritus around the yard. Puppy health can also go downhill fast, so I'm grateful that Gunter's Legacy Animal Rescue, Inc. didn't hesitate to authorize an urgent vet visit when NIles started vomiting and being listless. With fluids and anti-nausea meds he regained his appetite and he was the lucky recipient of some plain chicken and rice tonight. Once he went back into the yard for a potty break tonight, he grabbed something in his mouth and I had to chase him and pull out a small piece of wood. Oh, puppies!Frasier and Niles start the day chewing on nylabones in the morning sun, just as we start our day over a cup of coffee or tea. These handsome boys were neutered and had the last of their puppy shots last Friday. Four months old and available for adoption NOW, they are Chihuahua and Jack Russell terrier mixes. Niles is currently just over 7 lbs and should be about 10 lbs when fully grown. Frasier has a slightly heavier frame and may get to 12 lbs. They are house trained and sleep through the night in a crate together. During the daytime, they love to play with the other dogs in their foster home and enjoy the backyard.
